Re: chelle – You do yourself a disservice when you only read church-approved materials. Do research on real history. He did marry a 14-year-old girl. The church later sanitized this and changed it into something it wasn't. What it really was? Having sex with a minor.

      BoiledChimp,

The problem is that you don't really understand the mormon religion. Beign sealed to someone doesn't mean any marriage has been consummated. Joseph Smith was sealed to many men. Those men chose to be sealed as sons regardless of their age. With all those claims of Joseph Smith marrying and having sex with so many many women, where is the DNA of his offspring? Oh yeah, another one was just proven NOT to be biologically his child. Again, being sealed does not mean a marriage that is consummated, especially when the marriage might have been for eternity and not time.

    4. 204

I think Jesus would support Gay Marriage. lol

    5. 205

Re: Dabid – I do understand because I am an ex-Mormon. It's fine if you want to believe. And if it helps you live a better life I don't want to ruin it for you. But if you ever want to know real history, do some research. Ex-mormon.org is a great site, but only go there knowing you'll find out a lot of things you may not want to hear. I wouldn't advise it if you aren't ready. Good luck to you.

    6. 206

First off I am glad that you did not say all. I am Mormon and I support gay marriage. I also support equal rights for all people. As a matter of fact, I live in Utah and almost everyone I know supports gay marriage. There are good and bad in every religion and unfortunately people that cannot understand that although you may not understand or agree with something it doesn't make it wrong. But you are right some Mormons DO SUCK and not just when it comes to gay marriage.

    7. 207

Ya mormons are all so stupid! I live in utah and have to deal with them daily! EWW somebody please get rid of the all LOL

    8. 208

God does not equal love. God is a jealous, misogynistic, genocidal homophobe.

    9. 209

What a waste of money! Imagine all THE GOOD things the church could have done with the money, those millions could have gone to help so many people instead of going to fund hate.

      Re: Danielle20 – I agree with you

Romans 1:18 ¶ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness

Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Romans 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

People say that religion has no place here…what a joke
People that suport Gay marriage are lost
      AMEN

Re: Shelleybean – Are you an orthadox christian? I only ask b/c they are rather known for ignoring the fact that they aren't the only christians on this planet. Mormoms, as ass backwards as I see them (or any organized religion) are christian, absolutely. They aren't orthadox christians, they believe differently, but the faith and belief in christ is very, very much there.

    12. 212

Uh you forgot to mention the Catholics and Evangelicals also are supporting banning marriage- if you're going to bash a religion, give them ALL the attention they deserve.

    13. 213

Equal rights is equal rights. Vote no on 8. Our kids will be fine. Those that are gay will grow up knowing they are normal, and those that are not gay will not become gay "just cuz". It's not contagious y'know. It's not a choice. Sexual orientation is normalcy.

    14. 214

      Re: Reneesouflee
Granting of marital benefits to a category of sexual relationships that are necessarily sterile can only widen the separation between marriage and procreation. The biggest danger homosexual civil marriage presents is the enshrining into law the notion that sexual love, is the sole criterion for marriage - what about marrying blood relatives and multiple people - surely YOU GEST that thats not going to happen - the homos will DEMAND its taught in schools - and our churches will be sued - again - this is their MO - sue, complain, sue some more — you gonna speak out about that too? NO I shouldn't be REQUIRED to segregate my family because 4 people want to redefine the institution of marriage for MILLIONS just because some folks enjoy sodomy - again - good for you that you enjoy anal sex with a man - which is DISGUSTING by the way - homos want marriage so they can sue for SOCIAL SECURITY benefits - which is what really homo marriage is all about SSI benefits

    15. 215

Have any of you ever been personally attacked by a mormon, or treated as sub-human? Have you ever been called names, or have they personally attacked your beliefs by dredging up so called "scandals"? I doubt it. Mormons are always loving, classy, and kind. That's more Christlike than anything else I see.
This vote is important, everyone should be informed and make an opinion. Just because we don't have the same opinions doesn't mean we need to stoop to violence (aka cyber-bullying).

    16. 216

This is bull! If states are supposed to decide for themselves whether gay marriage should be legal, how can they with constant interference from people outside their state! Anyone who is not a citizen should not be able to actively campaign for or against this initiative. It is not a national vote, it is a state vote.

    17. 217

Try living in Utah with some of the bad ones!

    20. 220

      Dearest Perez and unimformed readers,
I happen to be a Mormon. I happen to disagree with their stance on gay marriage. I happen to live in utah. I also believe God=love. I have no right to judge anyone when I am totally imperfect myself. God knows our hearts, and our thoughts, and only he can judge us.
One of my oldest and dearest friends is gay. He still considers himself Mormon, even though he can't marry in our Temples. My heart aches for him.
If everyone could take a deep breath, and quit the name calling and mud slinging long enough to see we are all human, all in need of love and respect, then the world would be a truly better place to live. I coud go on about how you all have your facts wrong in regards to mormonism, but I could just be contributing to the chaos. ( I will say my husband has only 1 wife, and that's me….he couldn't handle more than one of me:)
if I could get across one phrase it would be to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Of course we all differ in our belief systems, it would be pretty damn boring if we were all the same, eh? Peace. ( Oh, and if i get a call to make calls for this event, the answer would be HELL NO )

    21. 221

Mormons are the MOST GENEROUS when it comes to giving. In the last 20 years the LDS church has donated over $250 million to non-LDS charities. Also, it has provided over $750 million in material goods of humanitarian aid to 165 countries including assistance following 185 natural disasters. I am an Episcopalian but the kindest, most unselfish, happiest people I have met are not in my church — they are Mormons.

    22. 222

Gay people aren't harming anyone by getting married. Why should anyone take that right away from them. It's not about people having their right to an opinion, that's fine. The problem is when you try to ban people from doing something that won't harm you in any way except for the fact that you selfish pricks can't accept it and don't want to see it. That's not freedom of speech, that's what oyuo call trying to control people's lives. That's illegal. Too bad, sounds personal. Get over it. THe day will come. Gays will marry!

    23. 223

Re: JulesinSD – Where the hell did you get that from?? Let me guess…..the Bible??? You don't like it when people say that ALL christians are bad which is true…..BUT you should also know that not every gay is like that (which is a huge group).
We're not gonna sue anyone, we'll just find a church that does allow it!

You're so scared of getting sued, but do you own a church or are you a priest?? If not then why do you care??

    24. 224

      mormon=babymachine jejeje

    25. 225

God does equal love, it's people who get it confused.

    26. 226

we get it.. (i'm not one of them) but some people hate the gays. YOU are not going to change their minds. Give it up.

    27. 227

tbrad 231-Amen RDRH-Seriously? Honestly? Thank you for your entirely ignorant, stupid comments. It's good to see that someone still opposes truth so forcefully, to REINFORCE the fact that there are still good people in the world trying to do what's right.

The fact of the matter is, ya'll, the government doesn't get to decide what marriage is, cause then they get to define what a family is. Once that happens, all of the VALUES that this country was based on go out the window, and for whoever said it, this country WASN'T based on a religion, but it WAS based on Christian principles. Go back and read the Federal Papers, that proves it. Read the journals of the Founding Fathers who were there when they wrote the Constitution. They ALL believed that God's hand was in the founding of this country, and that it was based on CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES! It can't be refuted by anyone, if they try, then they're just being irrational and stupid. I promise you that it WILL happen. One day, we will ALL know the truth, and the truth is that marriage is meant to be between man and woman. Also, you people that are trying to rationalize the Bible away as imperfect, or tell us what Jesus thinks of us, you're stupid, grow up and apply just a MODICUM of logic, and you will see that's not the case, and you have NO idea what Jesus thinks.

    28. 228

      Re: cmmrm80 – Neither do you….

    29. 229

so. this shit has happened twice. first, massachussets gay marriage right was taken away after LESS THAN A month and now we're doing the same to california? the government cant just play with everyones heads like that!!! we obviously voted FOR it, and it's not fucking fair for these religious freaks to say who can marry who. the gays got married to follow their dreams, ya know, and live a HAPPY life. when those crazed god suckers are following someone elses word on how to live their life. so be jealous of others who had the courage to live on their own terms. it's fuckin 2008 people, get real!!!!!!!!

    30. 230

Why do religious Americans think they can deny others their constitutional rights? Let the gay ppl get married. It's not undermining society. The institution of marriage has been made a mockery by heterosexuals. Let the gayz bring some decency back to it. Hey, I grew up in the bible belt and hardcore, going to church, living by the lord christians are some of the most evil ppl I have ever met. the little petty daily crap that comes out of their mouths is just an endless flow of evil little things. Just the worst ppl. Given the choice between living in Salt Lake City vs San Francisco….shiz! San Fran anyday!!!
God maybe all about love but Christainity is all about ignorance, fear, hate, and intolerance. And poor Jesus…christians must leave him butthurt.

    31. 231

I didn't look at the link yet but just regarding your post itself Perez.. pot call the kettle black much?

      Mormon sucks… most of them.

    35. 235

Seperation of church and state. Vote no on prop 8

    36. 236

All these Churches are telling their congregations how to vote, and have tax exemption status.
Some people have to be told how to vote.

Re: LULU~* – I read moronic comments from time to time - doesn't make me want to drink rat poison so I can kill most of my brain cells, too

    38. 238

hahaha thought it said "dear morons"
anyways at this time it would fit

    39. 239

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I was raised Mormon, and I honestly can't believe they're going to such lengths to try to ban gay marriage. It's a church, not a legislative body. Stay out of it!

    40. 240

It's hard for me to wrap my head around people caring that much and being so against same-sex marriage that they'll go out of their way to convince people to vote no on prop 8. My dad, he's a hardcore Christian, and I came across a letter he printed addressed to our local political rep (whatever the eff you call it) and he voiced his opinion saying marriage should be between a man and a woman.
Seriously? Do you care THAT much? I really could care less if gay people marry. Why do some heteros get their panties in a bunch over it? Does it really affect them? I'm definitely pro gay marriage and I'm not even gay. I just don't understand why some straight people are so dumb about it.

    41. 241

      Re: Neteret
You make a good point, Neteret, marriage has been made a mockery by the hetero couples. Isn't there something like a 60% divorce rate in America? What about those drive-through wedding chapels in Vegas, is that really taking it seriously? And really, who's to say who would make a better marriage? A straight couple or a gay couple? Who's judgement call is that? We certainly have no right to judge other people's lifestyles. It's not hurting anyone, so why do people care? Let them lead their lives how they want.

    42. 242

Re: xXTOMXx – Happily, I do on THIS particular matter. He made it kind of clear. Good try, though.

Maaandy- No one voted on it, it was decided by the courts.

    43. 243

HEY PEREZ, YOU ARE THE BIGGEST HATER EVER!! SUCKS TO BE HATED DOESN'T IT? WHY YOU GOTTA HATE??????

Re: Hizzeather – Mormons are always loving classy and kind? I hope your speaking for yourself. I was in school one day an a girl sitting at my table who is Mormon thought nothing of saying N**** in front of my best friend who is black. And no one said anything… til I told her that was very "Mormon" of her and everyone but her boyfriend who is also "Mormon" left the table. You may not see it, or you may even be numb to it if its around you. But dont think your religion or any other religion for that matter is superior. A chic on one of these blogs had a saying on her post that said it best… "the people who carry the biggest bibles never open them or don't understand them". And you cant say they do, cause if they did they would know it doesn't promote hate or name calling or going against people who believe in what you don't. But I know I don't need a bible telling me what's right from wrong.
