The budget on the big Broadway musical adaptation of Spider-Man - with music by Bono and directed by Julie Taymor -has ballooned to $40 million!!!!!

The show also reportedly will cost $1 million a week to put on.

How will the investors ever make their money back?????

First of all - get the facts straight: the music is being written by Bono and Edge from U2 and secondly: those of you with no imagination in terms of how "Spiderman" can be done as a musical are going to be blown away by this show… you have no idea…….

Re: emifinky – lemme guess, you
are invested in the show, and you bought the line.

    23. 23

why do we need 20 million new broadway shows? just keep making the ones people actually go to and everyone is happy! greedy bastards.

    24. 24

Oh dear, you just didn't get the hint did you?
Perhaps I know much more factual information on this topic than the press… and by the way: their information on the budget is waaaay off, so stop worry about people loosing their houses as the result of a musical (how does this idea make sense?).
Private investment has nothing to do with the general mismanagement of the ecomomy by those in which the taxpayer entrusted their futures…and by the way: how much exactly has the American government spent on war
Does Broadway have anything to do with this?

In times of hardship it is the artists and entertainers that keep people's spirits afloat until thing stabilize. In the great depression it was the songwriter of Tin Pan Alley who gave people hope and inspirational songs.
Those two hours in the theater where reality is suspended and the hardships of living are temporarily forgotten, are golden, and artists take this responsibilty very seriously. This is the reason why creatives such as Julie Taymor are constantly honing their craft and creating new and innovative ideas to take the precious, but sometimes jaded audience member into the unexpected and spectacular.

P.S. Spiderman is going to change Broadway musicals for all time. The cynics here will all find themselves in a theater seat being entertained, awed and inspired.

      I don't have money invested in the show…but I wish I had…

    26. 26

r u kidding me? spiderman is not a musical…these ppl are so dumb.
