He's No Tom Brokaw!

Que risa!

On Thursday, Daddy Yankee served as a moderator of a debate among candidates for governor of Puerto Rico.

He was one of three moderators. The other two who served were a local journalist and a television personality.

The island's government chose Daddy Yankee to participate because they want to lure young voters to the polls on Nov. 4.

The McCain supporter told a local paper that he wasn't biased toward any of the four island candidates.

He also said, "I am going to be an instrument to deliver the people's questions."

Such lofty language, Daddy!

A group of young people burned Daddy Yankee albums outside the convention center hosting the debate.

One of the protestors, a guy named Jose Perez, said the artist is being used as "bait" in a system that otherwise neglects young people.

Did anyone watch the Daddy Yankee moderated debate? How'd it go?

why do guys still do their hair like this??? WHY?

  2. 2

    I'm so embarrassed

  3. 3

The debate was a joke! He did so horribly that the other moderator had to come up and help him. I started watching it and left. The questions were stupid, the studio looked like a club and the 'interactive' part was messed up, none of the candidates could hear the questions! Rant over.

  4. 4

He looks like Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber

  5. 5

He had the balls to shush the governor and the other candidates various times and outside the "Choliseo" it was a mayhem!
As usual the candidates did not answer the questions, by the way!

  6. 6

By the way I felt proud of him until I heard the support to McCain!
Anything to feed the feud with Don Omar a Obama supporter, we saw him on the Will I Am song!

  7. 7

It was pretty ridiculous. They get him to "moderate" to attract young voters. So, we young Puerto Rican voters are supposed to be attracted to this idiocy? Im glad the heads of PR are comfortable with using DADDY YANKEE as bait for what they think young voters are. Did you also know that one of those moderators is a model? No, not a model…A whore who gets paid for pictures? It was pretty disgusting and it made a mockery of the already comical political process. Let's perpetuate the stereotype by getting this idiot to moderate an event whose importance is totally lost on him.

  8. 8

And the slut next to him is wearing way to much make up

  9. 9

I love Daddy Yankee, he's hot!

  10. 10

I WAS AT THE DEBATE AND HE DID GREAT FOR SOMEONE WHO COMES FROM A PROJECT SO… PROPS TO HIM

BUT HE'S STUPID FOR SUPPORTING MCCAIN -> SUCH AN ASS MOVE FROM HIS PART . HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER

  12. 12

mccain used to be a very big supporter of immigration reform and apparently won like 65 percent of the latino vote in arizona on that platform. now that he is the presidential nominee, the story is, he has totally turned his back on reform and has sided with the extreme right of his party who want to raise a higher wall between the us and mexico.

I love PR elections. You see candidates in super decorated pick-ups racing down Rt. 3 with bullhorns.None of these stuffy speeches and crap, they shout to the world what they're about!

  14. 14

BRITNEY SPEARS' NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR "WOMANIZER" PREMIERS TONIGHT ON ABC'S 20/20!!!!

  15. 15

He's so good looking. I love him. It is sad people are so judgmental because he doesn't go with the Hollywood crowd and buy into the Obama hype.

  16. 16

It was a joke! It was like he was singing out the questions. I had it in the background and I just had to laugh at how he talked. that whole debate was horrible.

  17. 17

he was reading the pointer…..he even read "greet Mr. Fortuño". Insead of saluting him!!

  18. 18

i'm sadly not voting in my first year of being eligible to vote… i'll be in NY celebrating Obama.

but still i'd like to say that Daddy Yankee isn't bait for teenagers. people like myself who really don't like the music, don't take him so seriously. and politics is something to be serious about. if you wanna talk to young people, dare to go to a university or directly talk to them. asking a rapper to host your debate, not so sly.

  19. 19

What do you mean by :

"HE DID GREAT FOR SOMEONE WHO COMES FROM A PROJECT SO…" ?????

Really, I need you to explain this for me, because I did not know that people who live in the "projects" are not capable or uneducated if that's what you mean. Please educate me in this matter!!!

About the debate, I really didn't mind the using Daddy Yankee to attract young voters, I did mind the lack of organization and professionalism. It was a mockery of politics and democracy in PR, but the system is ridiculous itself, so this is not surprising.

Daddy Yankee and the other moderators were talking so loud, especially when the candidates time was up, that it was uncomfortable to watch, but then again, there were some candidates in that debate that deserved to be treated like that and worse. An what was that all about when one of them was wearing jeans? Does the fact that the audience were high school and college students meant there was an audience undeserving formality and professionalism, to be taken seriously?

As many people, actual voters, that i know, I started watching and turned off my TV.

    Re: lola44211

This isnt about him supporting Obama or not (and in regards to his roots, it's ridiculous he does support McCain and not because John's a republican, but because he's not supportive of immigration laws, that which clearly would affect the Daddy Yankee demographic). Being "judgemental" here has nothing to do with his hair cut or "how hot" he is (and good for you for making such a groundbreaking observation on a topic that's irrelevant).

It's about how he is in no way qualified to moderate an electoral debate.
There's no other way around it, bb.

  21. 21

    Re: cba
You shouldnt shower him with flowers because he comes from the projects. There's loads of people who come from the projects and have made names for themselves. The difference is they actually know what they're talking about.
The problem with him being moderator is not his previous social status or the fact that he backs McCain. It's about him not being qualified.

  22. 22

can anyone tell me what i said to have my comment deleted?

  23. 23

Even thought I have to say the debate was a joke. Each candidate wanted to sell a fairy tale world and avoided questions; and even at times they were "Lambiendo ojo" well trying to.. to the Boricuas there and the rest of the Island. There was a RIOT outside and the Booos were heard from afar!! On another note Daddy Yankee did great for his first time as a moderator. You can tell he was nervous but he wasnt Afraid to tell those politicians a piece of his mind and what the country NEEDS desperately!! He was given standing ovations at times for his bravery and the way he talked to the politicians. At the end he gave them a piece of his mind to ALL the bull the politicos were saying and some of them put down their heads and even one rolled his eyes at him and it was ALL caught in camera!!!

  24. 24

I saw it and he did a great job
he was 100% neutral and a great moderator representing the young people who need to vote, he is part of the campaign (vota o quedate callao) to make people to adquire knowledge to know for who they need to vote

    perez, get to primerahora.com
so you can see the details, it was really good!

im not a fan of daddy yankee, but im a journalist student and i analize everything about the debate, and it was A+

  25. 25

Hah! Nevermind, pardon my stupidity i've never posted here before.

Anyways, I understand that there are people like some of you and me who are not into his type of music and his personna, but the reality is that we are a minority compared to the people that does. However he was not qualified for this job.

  26. 26

the production at the debate was horrible…the screen where Daddy Yankee had to read from was tiny he clearly had problems reading it.I did like that the moderators made the candidates shut up when they went over time. He did a great job in my opinion and i think people are being too hard on him. Im happy that he's urging young people to vote in these elections when in the last elections most of the youth did not go out to vote.I don't agree with his support of John McCain but I still love him and respect him.

  27. 27

Living on the mainland, we're much more focused on the presidential election. And unfortunately, for those of us away from home, we are unable to vote in both elections. I heard from so many of my friends back home what a joke this debate was. It is ridiculous that they'd have any one of those moderators present, and it was definitely not the right way to gain the young vote. Daddy Yankee, or any other reggaetón "singer" for that matter, are probably the least politically learned. Daddy Yankee, for one, is not even really puertorican (he's nuyorican, and that's NOT the same thing - grow up on the island, and EARN your right to call yourself boricua, bitches!). Furthermore, I agree that his sponsorship of McCain is both disgusting and stupid. Immigration doesn't affect us directly, as we are US citizens by birth, but we feel for the rest of the Spanish-speaking countries and feel they deserve as fair a treatment as possible. I feel like the whole campaign has been a joke, just like the current governor, and Puerto Rico (like the US) needs a big change. Every time I go back I see how it degrades further and further. If we want our beautiful island to shine again, as it always did, we need to get all of these idiots out of politics and put our trust in someone who can truly bring about change.

  28. 28

    so ridiculous!!! que ridiculo

  29. 29

I WANT TO EAT DADDY YANKIES SHAVED ASSHOLE.

  30. 30

He looks like one of those peruvian bone in the nose guys.

  31. 31

Que verguenza!! I did not see the bs, but today I saw the news , It was a big joke, Mr.D Yankee read for two hours + ,he did not know how to read a prompter correctly. Then WYF with his hair do?, and at the end whoever was outside fans or people from the political parties here , which are 4, They started a beer bottle fight that the police force have to contain. It is a shame!!

  32. 32

Thank god I live in the US and I didn't have to sit through such a disgrace. The youth has already been called upon and more than a million young adults have registered to vote, why because they want change and change means taking that piece of crap that is Acevedo Vila out of office. As much as I wanted Rosello to be up there I would be relived if Fortuno wins. P' RIBA LA PALMA! PNP 4 EVER!

  33. 33

    Re: cba – oh please…

  34. 34

No one can stand Daddy YAnkee no more in Puerto Rico, I dont know why he was participating in that stupid debate

  35. 35

WTFFF DADDY YANKEE??!!! JOHN MCCAIN DOES NOT GIVE A FLYING SHIT ABOUT LATINO PEOPLE!!

  36. 36

    Re: clue182

    you're an idiot.
it's no wonder, considering the Communications education is a joke here.

  37. 37

    It was bad.

  38. 38

he sucked!!!!! I saw the whole thing cuz im still not convinced on who i'm gonna vote for ,,but after watching that crap i think im not gonna vote at all.

  39. 39

Como sea los candidatos para la governacion de Puerto Rico son una mierda…cual de todos mas corruptos! Pero le quedo bien cuando apoyo a la gente de los residenciales publicos en el debate.

  40. 40

the debate was awful!! he looks like he have crazy glue on his hair, talked like a robot and really sucked as a host… very painful to watch

  41. 41

Put it this way Perez. " TREMENDA PORQUERIA " Daddy Yankee was/is nothing but a JOKE. He wasn't prepared. The candisates are all CROOKS.The governor at this very moment is under indictment 24 counts for corruption/fraud and is allowed to rerun for relections. So it kinda is funny where they have one clown talking to 4 clowns. Puerto Rico is like the United Sates..runned by crooks

  42. 42

first of all the debate was poorly organized and didn't do very well with the question and I like daddy yankee cuz out of all the reguetoneros he is the one who respects women the most and well ppl should take it easy on him…everyone has their own beliefs and we should respect that..don't you think that thats one of the main reasons the world is in such shit right now? couse ppl don't respect others opinions? i dunno but u talk about being respectful to gay ppl and everything but ur just as bad as racists

  43. 43

ohh and btw i do hate how he made the questions he made the same movement with his hand over and over again and was sorta distracting

  44. JCPR says – reply to this
    44

Sooooooo freaking embarassing! he was the worst of the 3..

  45. 45

that's the cheesiest effing hairdo i've ever seen

  46. 46

my only critic for the debate is that the candidates needed like a whistle or something to let them know there time was up, but otherwise, the hosts interrupted them by saying "Thank You, next candidate"…. I think that is a lack of manners and it looks very disrrespectful for anyone that's talking….

  47. 47

Daddy Yankee is EXTREMELY UN-intelligent, and he proves that with every word he ever utters. His support of McCain also shows a general lack of brains. Does he think McCain cares about young Latinos? Well, apparently he does. And that makes him an idiot.

  48. 48

    it was a joke.

  49. 49

People are so stupid… they bought his albums to burn them… hahahah like he cares what they do with it once they buy it!!! STUPID INDEPENDENTISTAS!!!

PEREZ I LUV YOU…BUT you are so friking biased chico!!!… Let the guy be… I don't understand why the gays are so pro Democrats… they obviously don't believe in any of you being recognized as Married people, which seems to be the main concern for most of you…. I don't get.. OBAMA IS GOING TO RUIN THIS COUNTRY!!

And by the way… all the debates in Puerto Rico suck major balls… we have a candidate who is also our Governor, who has been charged with 24 federal counts of corruption related crimes and another
