I came out this year (as bi) - and I must say, honesty is refreshing!!!
oo i came out like a month ago and none of my friends even care
even the boy friend (im bi! and damn proud of it!) doesnt think anything of it. and im a volunteer with no on 8 every other weekend
and its so true
the more homosexuals there are the more poeple are going to get used to the idea
back when there weren't that many i thought it was weird and hated myself for my feelings but i started being more aware and volunteered and it made me more comfortable with this and say yeah ok im attracted to the same sex and damit there hot! i feel sooo much better
so please comeout..even to just a couple of good friends then u can grow from there but its just about being comfortable with your sexuality and embracing it

Timing is everything. For some people they can't come out if they aren't in a safe place to do it. If you are in high school and you are afraid of getting beaten up or worse(!) you should wait. I think some people are afraid to come out because they believe the people they like will "turn" on them. Even their families. So they would rather keep pretending everything is OK rather then risk "losing" those people. But chances are, a lot of those people already sense you might be gay. The thing is, some of them would rather you keep pretending so THEY don't have to deal with it. Of course some gay people who have jobs are afraid of losing their jobs or being harassed about being gay at work. It is very hard to come out and it can also be dangerous. That is why a gay person needs support to come out. I think that when a gay person comes out gradually, to certain people, it is probably easier. They need people they can count on when things get touchy. I think coming out is a personal decision and when a person feels ready, they will do it. They just need to really be ready for the fact that people they love and care about, people they thought were friends, will turn their backs on you. Not all, but some. But the gay person will realize they weren't worth ruining your own life for it. No. I am not gay, but I work with artist and a lot of them are.

Coming out right now really isn't a practical option for me. I'm living at home as I'm going to college. If I were to tell my mother, not only would I be kicked out, but I'd also have my college education taken away from me.
Sure, coming out would allow me to live authentically, but at the expense of my future. I think people really need to stop and think about whether right now is the right time to come out. For many of us, it simply isn't. I can deal with being in the closet until I've moved out and started my career. It's easier to have your parents hate you when you don't live with them.

There's strength in numbers but alot of gays are still not going to come out when they can keep it on the down low and still do what they want. They have wives/husbands and children or come from families that would not accept it. They are also not going to admit it to their co-workers even though you can tell they are gay. Meanwhile, they are busy speculating on the morality of straight women. It's too hilarious. I couldn't care less if anyone else is gay but it's not true that everyone is "a little gay."
