Oh, so guess what? Simon Cowell gets paid the most on the set of American Idol.
Yeah, we're not surprised either.
Former AI executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told an Australian newspaper that Cowell owes his salary to brilliant negotiating, never signing a contract for more than 12 months.
The result? The British Bad Boy earns $36 million a year, out-earning Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson by quite the margin.
Lythgoe - who is now working on So You Think You Can dance - says Cowell gets more because he brings more viewers to their TV sets, and while his co-judges may be a touch jealous, Cowell is "worth every penny he's paid" of his almost $22,000 a minute rate.
That's a nice chunk of change!

I still don't understand……if someone can explain this to me I will never say it again….why is it….celebrities get paid….well OVERPAID for what they do….why? They get overpaid to travel? party? show up at events? play dress up in front of the camera? Is this ridiculous to anyone else? People who protect this country should be paid that type of money. Not these idiots. It drives me crazy. Like the Hills stars being paid like 50,000 to show up and sit in a vip section and drink free drinks for four hours. Celebrities should get paid less than anyone. What they do is not hard and it's fun. Oh the hard life….clubbing, going to award shows, vacation, out to dinner, buying cars, and mansions….oh the tragedy. On another note….I love Simon:)

All the contestants may think that Simon is evil but they listen to him as does the audience. Besides he does more than just judge on the show. He is league with Simon Fuller. With all the ratings and the price of advertisement he plays it smart.
