Hopefully Americans Won't Do The Same
Canadians stayed away from the polls this week - in record numbers!
Voter turnout for the elections up North were at an all-time low.
Bummer!

wait…and all along i thought
canadians were smarter than
americans????
59% is better than the 46% I heard yesterday…brutal
Hopefully, Americans WILL do the same. B-a-d choices. McCain 8 years too late, Obama 4 years too early.
fresh
Hi lettyB, I know that you voted…how u doin?
and here we are, after ALL that money spent (wasted) with exactly the same minority Conservative government. UGH.
well whats better, someone throwing a random vote out because they don't really understand any of the platforms that any of the parties have, or staying away from the polls because of it, and not making a rash choice that could determine who runs our country.
the difference up here is we have minority governement, so either way all the parties have a say, or can stop the majority party from doing something by voting against. You guys have the Majority government, and your stuck with what you get.
Plus with your election going on I don't think anyone here really saw much about our election….
I'm from Canada, it's because many people who usually vote liberal (aka Democrat) don't like the head of the liberal party who was running for prime minister, Stephane Dion, partly because he wanted to emit a carbon tax to help offset carbon emissions, however, the economy is in the shitter, and an extra tax is not what anyone needs right now.. so many liberals simply chose not to vote.
Yeah, thanks Conservative government. You spent over 300 million dollars to try and get a majority government. We are exactly where we were before the election. Thanks Canadian population for your apathy and laziness.
HELL NO THAT WON'T HAPPEN HERE!! In VA we have registered 500,000 new voters MOST of which are OBAMA supporters!! YES WE CAN!!!YES WE WILL!!!
IT IS SAD! I VOTED BUT I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE DIDN'T AND IT IS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T FEEL CONFIDENT IN ANY OF THE PARTY LEADERS TO MAKE CHANGE! WHICH IS NOT TRUE AND IF YOU DON'T VOTE DON'T COMPLAIN FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS! I THINK PEOPLE ARE DEAF WHEN IT COMES TO POLITICS BECAUSE THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND IT THEREFORE ARE LAZY TO VOTE! WELL THANK ALL OF YOU WHO DON'T LIKE HARPER BUT DIDN'T CAST A VOTE TO MAKE CHANGE!
Re: thirtytwotwenty – EXACTLY!!!
LOL, LettyB he's talking to you! Did you fucking vote?
Re: SheriMoonZombie – HEY GIRL, I AM GOOD!
I've already voted!!!! GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!
Re: wanna milk me?? – WE ARE! LOL!
and i was right!
well i didnt vote because i thought the election was a waste of time & money.!!! The campaigne only lasted 5 weeks so the public really wasnt informed on the candidates platforms and its only been two years since the last election..we didnt need to have one!!! Our government hasnt changed at all IT Was a complete waste!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: _Alice_ – OF COURSE!!! GREEN PARTY BABY!
[re=2990524]Re: i
I voted in the Canadian election and i just got my absentee ballot for the US election in the mail yesterday
Re: LettyB – WTF!
I think a HUGE problem with the election here this year was that they changed all the voters rules, confusing a lot of people. I'm in Alberta working, but so is half of the rest of the country and people like me, along with students don't have a piece of id with this address on it because it isn't our permanent address, so we couldn't vote… which sucks. I mean that's hundreds of thousands of Canadians who couldn't because they didn't have the right piece of paper! Not to mention the PCs only ran the election to get another majority government and wasted millions upon millions of our tax dollars… way to go Harper… not.
perez… a lot of the parties in canada really didn't move a lot of people. most of the parties have their fair share of scandals. i didn't vote either. none of them gained my trust in their word.
I voted this past Tuesday for the 3rd time in four years! The purpose of this election was to attempt to turn a Conservative minority Government into a Conservative majority Government… The Conservatives came close but no cigar, the Liberals lost seats cause their leader is a jack ass (who should be stepping down any second now) and the NDPs and Conservatives basically picked those lost seats up.
Another stupid move was to call the election right before the Americans declare a new President (who your president is affects Canadians too!) and during an economic crisis.
Basically this election was one big waste of money for Canadians and WE ALL knew this.
while that sucks, you have to understand the Canadian election is not the same as the American election. It was an expensive waste of 2 months of 250 million dollars. None of the candidates changed, none of the platforms changed. It was just the minority leaders attempt at getting a majority government so he can have all the power, which he didn't get. I hope Americans dont see what we did in Canada as an indication they don't need to vote. The American vote will change the world, and it's your right as the super power of the world to get out there and vote.
Part of the problem is that we have had 3 federal elections in the last 4 years!! Same party leaders for all of the parties in every one of those 3 elections. Voter fatigue and crappy party leaders. Our Prime Minister doesn't have a majority government so he decides when he wants us to vote when he thinks his ratings are higher hoping that he will get a majority. There were Facebook groups and strategic voting groups that were arranging vote swapping so as to prevent him from getting that majority.
didn't vote, none of the leaders were worth the effort. All the same money laundering, scandal clad crap.
Hey agreed….3 elections in 4 years…COME ON!!! of course voter turn out was low…and seriously…with stephane dion barely campaigning, no one with trust in Jack Layton and harper doing the same thing as usual…it all turned out the same…once again another conservative minority….but hey…at least NDP's got afew more seats!!!
hey letty!
I think McCain will narrowly win this election and I'll tell you why. A lot of people supporting Obama will not turn out to vote. I'm not racist or prejudice, just speaking from a factual stance. The polls don't mean a whole lot. There are a lot of Obama supporters come election day who will get side tracked with their babies, jobs, smoking crack, etc., and won't turn out. Their are a lot of Obama supporters who aren't even elegible to vote: convicted felons and underage. There are a lot of students who are Obama supporters who will get side tracked with their studies and partying and screwing their boyfriends/girlfriends to make an effort to vote. It takes a lot of time to vote. Usually waiting in long lines. Beleive me, a lot of these people are going to find something better to do at that time. The bottom line is reasonable percentage of Obama supporters are deadbeats who aren't going to vote.
I wanted to vote for Obama, but he wasn't one of my choices.
That's dumb, aye?
Re: AMO – IT'S EH, DUMB FUCK!
Re: wanna milk me?? – HEY!
Don't worry about the lack of Canadian voters. That’s the awesome thing about Canada- Land we don't half to wait 4 years to have an other election. We call them whenever we don't like what our government is doing. Our nabours to the south might want to the same.
Yep…Canadians were SMART voted for the Conservative party…
We all knew it was a ridiculous waste of time (3rd one in 4 years with the same result). I chose to have sex all day instead! Yay me!
Re: LettyB – Aye, eh… whatever the fuck it's stupid no matter how you spell it. Take a Midol already. You're one hateful bitch.
Go get laid… something, shit!
Do you want to try living up north and getting to a polling station?
I voted. But it is true what everyone else is saying. There are many people who were not confident with any of our candidates. Neither was I..but then again if you don't vote to make a differance then its true you can't complain about the goverment. We are back with the same prime minister we had this whole time…nothing changed, but either way I don't think there would have been a positive change with any other party leader. They're all crooks and sadly you can't believe what they say.
You know why? Cause this is the third time in the last four fucking years they made us vote. We are the ones paying for it with our tax money and because the fuckers can't get it right they keep sending us back to the damn polls. It's not worth it anymore cause I'm sure there will be another election next year.
Re: Genghis Khan –
How lond does it take YOU to vote?
I went in my polling station and was out again within 5 minutes.
Re: AMO – LIKE I SAID YOU'RE A DUMB FUCK!
C'mon canadians! There's no excuse not to vote… unless you feel like giving up your right to complain about the government. Personally, I wasn't even registered and was in and out in under 10 minutes no problem…
Although the money would have been better spent buying the hockey night in canada song back for the cbc…
I am Canadian and honestly this time around I did not go vote. I know that it is bad to not vote but our two options were so horrible and I could not support either one of them. You have Liberal leader that refuses to answer questions regarding millions of dollars that disappeared and then the conservative leader that wants to go backwards and changes the laws on abortions and juvenille punishments. Come on I don't want to go backwards in time, we are suppose to move forward in life. I just hope that next election we will have better options as a leader.
I follow the American politics and must admitt that Obama seams to be a great choice for a leader and wish we had a potential preseident (Prime Minister) like him.
Re: LettyB – That's right b/c I'M the one w/ the limited vocabulary.
Re: becky213 – Re: becky213 – Hey… you still could have voted. I moved too and didn't have any ID with my new address. All you needed was a bill with your name and new address on it.
Plus…. why are all of the other Canadian here acting like it was only a choice between Conservative or Liberal. There was also a really strong NDP party that you could have chosen. I think people get stuck in there habits and continue to vote for the same parties election after election…
Bush43 lacked experience & got on the job training. Look at the mess he got the country into. Obama lacks experience, but he's not afraid to undo the damage Bush has done to the country or around the world.
McCain will give us more of the last 8 years!! More for the rich and nothing for the Little Guy. At least this time, the Little Guy is getting mentioned in the political arena and won't be forgotten as in the last 8 years.
It's time for the Little Guy to get that money that's gone to the rich for the last 8 years. It's only fair. You won't get that with McCain.
Vote Obama . . . Tuesday, November 4, 2008!!!
Early voting is up in Indiana & Chicago big time!!
It will take 5 minutes and you need to give Obama a break . . . for the Little Guy!
its really sad….but i get what everyone is saying…cause seriously Dion is a douche, like the liberals always choose the wrong person to run…..NDP needs an in people!!! Jack Layton allll the way!! I believe Americans wont do the same…..considering of heard more about your election than my own country's…but im hoping if Obama gets the "in" things will change for us, considering our Prime Minister Mr. Harper seems very influenced by who's running your country at the moment……he's a fucking meathead….theres my two cents! Next time people, vote strategically….get the conservatives out!!!
As sad as it is, Canada is dependent on America. Who we vote for up here really has no baring on if our country succeeds or fail, as witnessed by the mess president Bush has made of your economy, and as a result our dollar went from being par to yours, back to about 68 cents, I think most Canadians know that. Believe me we're much smarter then the crazy red necks in Ohio, lol, but we're more focused in on the American election. Most people here wish we could vote for your president, I'm Canadian and I didnt vote, PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!! OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!
Re: AMO – EAT MY BACK BACON FUCKTARD AND THEN TAKE OFF HOSER!
It was really disappointing. Somehow through all the complaining about Harper, he managed to keep his seat as Prime Minister. He almost took a majority governement aswell, which would have been devastating.
So learn fromt us, get out there and VOTE!
Re: LettyB – HAHAHA!
i voted! but fucckk our elections are soo boring! people arent interested in any of the people running
Stupid people. If I was old enough, I would have voted. Seriously, get off your asses and vote! It's note difficult! Also, the Conservative party has done a lot for Canada and if you think they haven't, you are seriously mistaken. Sure, they aren't perfect, but NO party is. The Liberals are useless and I'm so happy Stephane Dion is stepping down as party leader, because he's an ass. Sure, the election was a waste of money since the Conservatives did not get their majority government, but that's most likely because a little more than HALF of eligible voters showed up to vote. I bet if at least 65% showed up we would have what we should: A Majority Conservative government.
BTW: Jack Layton is an asshole in person. I saw him at Pearson International Airport and he was being a dick to his assistant or whoever. He says he's all about the kitchen table… then why is he an ass when he isn't on camera?
Oh, and like I said… Majorti Conservative would be a good thing, not a bad thing. We need a majority party to get shit done. Otherwise the Liberals and NDP will just vote against the stuff they don't like because they're asses. If you don't vote Conservative, at least vote NDP or Green Party.
NO MORE LIBERALS! They are liars.
This is why Canadians chose not to vote: Most Canadians are Liberals (Democrat) and we would have voted for them, however, they wanted to emit a carbon tax which in a nutshell is the more electricity, gas, hydro, etc. you use the more tax you have to pay. Even more taxes with the global economy in the shitter isn't what any Canadian wants right now. So most people chose not to vote. I am one of them, maybe if the Carbon Tax was gone I would have voted for them.
We are smart. We didn't just head off and randomly vote for someone we didn't like. We liked NO ONE and we voted for no one. Plain and simple.
Major bummer!!
I am thoroughly disappointed my fellow Canadians.
I am also disappointed with the outcome. Hopefully we can fix this mess up in the future!
I'm Canadian. I voted….but I'm sure a lot of people didn't bc our Prime Minister wasn't really interested in the his constituents or the nation, he was just worried about covering his own ass. This was a surprise election….it was a waste of the taxpayers money…had it been a "proper" election, I'm sure more people would have voted….shame on Harper….at least we only have him for 2 more years….but it's a rock and a hard place. stay here with Bush lite (as we so affectionately call him) or head down to the US once Obama becomes president????…decisions decisions…
People didn't vote because the election is already decided by the time the anyone west of Saskatchewan even gets a chance to vote. While I think this election was a bit of a waste of time, at least we don't throw the heaps of money around that the US does trying to get votes. Although, let me say this about Canada. At least the one woman we had as PM (for half a second) in Canada actually had a brain (kim campbell) please tell me what McCain's excuse is for thinking Sarah dumbass Palin has any business doing anything besides strutting around a stage in a bad bathing suit with a flute up her ass.
Re: CB1987 – it's YOUR resposibility to KNOW the platforms… not the politicians… they release their platforms ALL OVER the bloody place, including online, and yet people STILL say "oh, I didn't know what they were about"…
citizens need to start taking INDIVIDUAL responsibility for not voting, you had a fucking choice to read up on the platforms and policies and you CHOSE not to…. Don't start blaming the politicians, even though it seems like an easy out, it was the DUMBASS non voters that can only blame themselves for being so fucking ignorant, uneducated and all around stupid.
Next time you wanna say "I don't know anything about the politicians", try picking up a frigging newspaper, turning on the TV, or even BETTER…., You could actually ATTEMPT to go to each partie's website and READ FOR YOURSELF…. GOD! Does ever fucking person need to be held by the hand this day in age?
Im Canadian and glad alot of people didnt vote because the people who did just fucked things up! The election was SO useless because we still have a minority government run by Harper aka Bush Jr. and Liberals lost seats to Conservatives and NDP!
it didn't help that everyone that was running were dumbasses.

Nobody voted because all we had to choose from was a Nazi. a grease stain, an idiot and a vegetable. Not worth the price of gas to go to the polls. Either way we're fucked
VOTE MCCAIN! OBAMA IS A FRAUD!
I voted 2 weeks in advance- you can vote early but most of us don't know that- the people are saying that the candidates are all the same and none have really inspired us the way Barack has inspired the Americans- I am very happy to vote green and terribly sad we don't have enogh people getting informed enough about the government- one step closer to having our rights taken away… Next year i'll be joining the campaigns to get awareness out theer- Time to get up and do something
Re: becky213 – i called to register and looked it up online and you can bring a phone bill or proof of residence from the landlady to prove you live in the area you are voting in–but i guess you didn't have the time to inform yourself–
I didn't vote, first time in 9 years. The reason? Simply cuz I was under the impression I couldn't cuz I recently moved and didn't have proper ID. Turns out, as someone here said, apparently you didn't need it.
I have to agree with some people on here though…. the selection was bland. It was like having a choice between plain oatmeal or plain rice. Nobody really stood out as a true leader. Also, the campaign lasted maybe a month, it was over and done before we knew it, and while it was going on, it wasn't getting nearly as much exposure as the US election. I know more about Obama and Sarah Palin than I did about our own candidates. The campaign was so short, it didn't really give anyone a chance to really understand and get to know what each platform stood for.
The Americans however, have had the fortune of having a very long campaign, a chance for them to discuss amongst themselves and research and learn more about each candidate, what they stand for and get to know the things they need to know. I hope you choose Obama. Let it just be known that 95% of the people I know would vote for him. He gives us a reason to believe and a reason to get off our asses and vote for the change that your country needs. It's just unfortunate that us Canadians don't get a say, even though eventually it would actually affect us.
Obviously I'm not old enough to vote, but I'm glad the Conservatives won. We don't need a new government right now, we'd be fucking screwed with that french idiot Stephane Dion. We're better off with Stephen Harper, someone whos had experience. And someone who doesn't look like a duck..

The fight to defeat Prop 8 is going to be hard-won. Our opposition has a war chest of millions of dollars, and we must match them dollar for dollar. the thing is everyone thought this a wast of money we didnt need to have one. it like 5 weeks long and a big waste all cuz one party wanted more seats.so people just didnt see why to vote and also most people where watching America to see what you guys do.who ever you pick affects us to it was a bad time to have one and it was confusing. and people dont like stephane dion so the liberal party lost and i dont think people had faith in what the NDP wanted to do.i think people didnt see what they wanted to happen happend anytime soon witch sucks
I am Canadian and I voted New Democratic Party (similar to Obama's ideology). It sucks that Harper is once again Prime Minister but at least he only got a minority government. All decisions still need to go through the other seats and this is good when it comes to decision making. I was thinking though, if Harper did get a majority government and say McCain/Palin did become the next Presidential campaign would this affect Canadians. Because everyone knows Harper leans towards the Republican stance on politics, I must count my blessings that many Canadians at least know that a majority for Harper could be suicide.
I am Pro equal civil rights, Pro gay adoption and Pro Life… and I am anti Obama because he sells you the Robin Hood ideology… CHANGE sounds so pretty… THE WORST DECISIONS ARE MADE WHEN WE ARE DESPERATE FOR CHANGE… Look at Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Ecuador, China… etc., etc.,….. I would've voted but I was at school the entire day and couldn't travel on the bus fast enough to get there while the polls were still open
oh well. I would've voted conservative anyways
I'm Canadian and proudly voted NDP! If only they had a shot at hell at getting in…. my vote didn't seem to matter a whole lot, I think I live in the most convservative riding ever!! Conservatives got 17,220, NDP got 7,913, Liberals got 5,776 and Green got 2,443 in my riding.
For those of you saying you didn't vote because you didn't like either of the leaders (Harper or Dion), what in the world does NOT voting solve!? It's not like they went away and some magical saviour came and won the election… we could have all taken a stand.. voted NDP or Green even… not like they would have gotten in, but at least we could have taken some numbers away from Harper and maybe the Conservatives and Liberals would have seen the rise in NDP and Green votes as a sign that both parties are losing the country's support and fast and that something needs to be done and both parties need re-vamped ASAP.
If you didn't vote, you can't complain….
like i said before…. its was basicaly trying to find a lesser of two evils. i will, and have always voted as people have died to build this country, and democracy was founded in my province of NS.
with all that said, canadians are afraid to depart from either thier democratic and liberal parties to take a look at who has been fucking up the country for the last countless years… people are afraid to let other people try… i mean we had more options than harper and dieon FYI.
it saddens me to think that after all the idiot moves, the crying and complaining… and yet… harper again….. at least americans finally see a need for change and have some fresh faces to run their gov.
get out and vote!!!
Thats because that election was a COMPLETE JOKE!!!!!!!!
