Powell To Endorse Obama???
This is a pleasant surprise!
Former Bush Secretary of State, Colin Powell, who was once thought to be a potential running mate for John McCain, might instead be endorsing his opponent, Barack Obama.
According to Republican sources, Powell will be appearing this Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press and might be releasing the news then.
At the age of 71, Powell has been a professional soldier for 35 years. He's also advised the last three Republican presidents.
Fears from McCain's camp are that Powell's "unassailable national security credentials could sway voters who are vacillating about whether Obama is ready to be commander in chief, and his endorsement of the Illinois senator would make a national security emphasis by McCain in the election's closing days extremely difficult."
Well, we wonder why he isn't supporting McCain and Sarah Palin then????
And, although for the past few months, Powell has refused to publicly state who he'll be endorsing, everyone is suspecting it will be Obama.
A McCain official said, “It’s going to make a lot of news, and certainly be personally embarrassing for McCain. It comes at a time when we need momentum, and it would create momentum against us.”
NBC's Andrea Mitchell released the news of Powell's appearance this Sunday while on the Today show earlier this morning.
She said, “In what promises to be a dramatic moment Sunday, Colin Powell — a lion of the Republican establishment, whom McCain and Obama both have courted for months — will finally speak out on a variety of issues, appearing exclusively on Meet the Press."

Colin Powell will NOT endorse either OBAMA or MCCAIN! Unlike most folks here, Powell knows McCain and Bush are not the same person, and he will not endorse Obama just because he happens to be 50% African American.
Powell really has nothing to lose here. Yeah, he's a career Republican, but he's 71-years-old. His public life is essentially over and it's not like this can come back to haunt him or he's going to burn any bridges. He's at the point, personally and professionally, where he doesn't have to toe the party line and can make his endorsement with no other considerations than his own.

The rumor is next week Powell will endorse Obama. Then the last week right before the election, there will be another big name who will endorse Obama. (My guess: Warren Buffet.) They are intentionally spreading out the next two big endorsements over the next two weeks leading up to election day.

As to John McCain, I use to respect him a lot but he threw everything he believed in to win this election. The tactics Bush used against him in 2000 he is using against Obama. During the South Carolina primaries in 2000, Karl Rove went as far to say that his adopted daughter from India was the product of his affair with a black woman and they the McCains lied and said she was adopted to cover it up. Now McCain has no pride and has Karl Rove as an advisor. It sad to see the dignity people leave at the door to win.

A Powell endorsement would ease undecided voters' concerns about Obama's readiness on an international level. A Buffet endorsement would be a stamp of approval for Obama's proposed domestic economic plan.
So the Obama campaign final strategy could be: 1) Powell announcements endorsement next week (maybe on Tuesday or Wednesday). 2) The next week after that, Buffet announces his endorsement. 3) After that, across the last weekend and days leading up to Election Day, the TV airwaves are saturated with Obama ads (which will include a 30 minute infomercial that will air on primetime on NBC and CBS).
I wish Powell were running. I would vote for him in a heart beat!

Smerconish did so by reading a couple paragraphs from his pending op-ed in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"I've decided," he said. "My conclusion comes after reading the candidates' memoirs and campaign platforms, attending both party conventions, interviewing both men multiple times, and watching all primary and general election debates.
"John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well. But he will not get my vote. For the first time since registering as a Republican 28 years ago, I'm voting for a Democrat for president.

The next President of the United States will have the responsibility to appoint at least 3 Supreme Court Judges, Sen. McCain and his VP. running mate have stated that they will recommend only judges who support pro life, which takes the choice from women and men who might make a different one. I think everyone agrees if you are Pro Life, great that is your choice. Other people might have a different choice and that is the one you are taking away. Pro Life is always there, abortion can be taken away and that should be up to that person. If most women would talk to a generation of women and men who grew up in the early 40's and 50's they will tell you what the homes were like for unwanted children and that is what an only pro life choice will bring us to again. It is horrible to see unwanted children at orphanages and foster homes and now days we're still facing that problem… Also I don't think that Roe vs. Wade will ever be turned even if the Republicans win this election… The problem is that Abortion comes soo easy for people now days… I don't have enough fingers to count how many women I've met that have had one, or two or three…The surprising issue for me is that most women that I know have had an abortion not when they were in High School, but as young adults in their early 20's… you're not a child when you are 21/22…you should know better to protect yourself… as an adult woman I don't think is right.. I think that it is irresponsible and disgusting to see that they're so many careless people out there… If you can't deal with the possible outcome..don't get in that situation in the first place..that's my opinion… At the same time I do stand in the middle with exceptions like teenage rape, etc….
