Powell To Endorse Obama???

This is a pleasant surprise!
Former Bush Secretary of State, Colin Powell, who was once thought to be a potential running mate for John McCain, might instead be endorsing his opponent, Barack Obama.
According to Republican sources, Powell will be appearing this Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press and might be releasing the news then.
At the age of 71, Powell has been a professional soldier for 35 years. He's also advised the last three Republican presidents.
Fears from McCain's camp are that Powell's "unassailable national security credentials could sway voters who are vacillating about whether Obama is ready to be commander in chief, and his endorsement of the Illinois senator would make a national security emphasis by McCain in the election's closing days extremely difficult."
Well, we wonder why he isn't supporting McCain and Sarah Palin then????
And, although for the past few months, Powell has refused to publicly state who he'll be endorsing, everyone is suspecting it will be Obama.
A McCain official said, “It’s going to make a lot of news, and certainly be personally embarrassing for McCain. It comes at a time when we need momentum, and it would create momentum against us.”
NBC's Andrea Mitchell released the news of Powell's appearance this Sunday while on the Today show earlier this morning.
She said, “In what promises to be a dramatic moment Sunday, Colin Powell — a lion of the Republican establishment, whom McCain and Obama both have courted for months — will finally speak out on a variety of issues, appearing exclusively on Meet the Press."

Re: Devore – I'm interested to hear your suggestions as to why Powell might endorse Obama if not because of race. Powell's politics are diametrically opposed to Obama's so it's certainly not Obama's ideology he supports.
Re: Smirks – One word….PALIN
Re: Devore – OMG waooo I see why you would think that… I don't know why the thread says that I replied to sushi… I meant to reply to Joee60… but in no way was it mean to be racist… not like you would care.. but just so you know!!…

First of all there are too many idiots who get all riled up and use offensive language here, really shows intelligence levels. Should Powell back up Obama it's because Obama is intelligent! And to all you women backing the McCain Palin ticket your pathetic to be ok with womens rights being taken away. Why don't you google Gloria Steinem and get a clue. Women need to continue progressing NOT regressing. We've worked this hard and you bimbos have no clue.
Re: AmishAnne – except most of the republicans went to school and got a job to support themselves…big difference! Go McCain!
OUr country needs someone of great leadership, Obama is not the one believe me!
(He will vote for Obama because he's black, race card always comes first, duh!!)
- you closeted racist piece of shit, Blacks have been voting for white presidents, so the rest of non whites. Out of sudden, when the candidate for a president happens to be Black, you ignorant white privileged fuckers get all riled up and believe that the reasons blacks or non whites vote for Obama is because he is black. That is one twisted uneducated mentality.
People, blacks, whites, non whites vote for Obama because he is qualified. Not because he is black and since you want to play the race card, I will question, why most whites use this 'oh he will vote him cause he is black and obama is black'? Have you ever question yourself as a white person that has been voting for white presidents for more than 200 years??
Yeah. Educate yourself.
I love and respect Colin Powell…. he is a rightious man when he step out a manifesto for bush entering in these wars….
I really hope he endorses Obama…

NO to HATE. NO on 8
Los Angeles Times
“By banning same-sex marriages, Prop. 8 would create second-class citizens.”
The San Diego Union Tribune
“No on Prop. 8. Gay marriage right should not be repealed.”
The Napa Valley Register
“Vote no on Proposition 8. In our view, Proposition 8 is a misguided and unconstitutional proposal. We urge voters to reject Proposition 8.”
Redding-Record Searchlight
“Same-sex vows cause no harm to our families. The reasons given for Proposition 8 just don’t stand up to scrutiny.”
The Bakersfield Californian
“Californians need to move beyond the divisiveness that Prop. 8 has engendered and embrace tolerance and reconciliation. Live and let live.”
Our opposition has a war chest of millions of dollars, and we must match them dollar for dollar. Every dollar counts, so please contribute today and again in the coming weeks. Backers of Prop. 8 raised $24.3 million as of the end of September. WE have only raised $15.4 million. WE are seriously underfunded.

WHY are REPUBS so FULL of HATE???
Re: MeowMix67 – How educated are you when you can only use words that degrade women. Why would you want to be on a site that you stated is not reliable for news. From where I stand you are the one who needs to sit down and watch a news channel other than Fox and read a newspaper. By the way I can only determine by your reasoning that Colin Powell is only supporting Obama because he is black then you must only be voting for Sen. McCain because he is white. Please educate yourself on the issues, this is not about what color you like best.
Re: Cristi – Thank you for your post and I agree. Abortion should not be used as birth control. I too think it is wrong when women are not responsible for their choice and should live up to them in those situations. I hope you are right about Roe vs. Wade, but I am fearful. Thank you again.
Funny how obama didn't even think of Colon Powell for anything, isn't it? So, since the polls are so close, you would thing that obama might let us know who is in his cabinet. He's going to lose.
Re: TorontoMike – LOLL thank u. thats what i was thinkin! LOL
Re: OBAMA 08 – LOLLL aint that the truth!
Re: NO to HATE. NO on 8. – WHY are REPUBS so FULL of HATE??? I am a Republican and I don't hate. I believe in a woman's right to choose and I believe in gay marriage. Not all republicans are on the far right so, don't make generalizations on my behalf.
I met him at the local shopping center when I lived in N.VA. Very chill man, very nice, unassuming. Had the coolest vintage car for sale. Always liked him, and I will be very happy for his boost to Obama. Question, why is it Powell can be accepted for his skin color, but not Obama? VOTE OBAMA!
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell speaks to reporters Sunday after appearing on "Meet the Press."
"I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming onto the world stage, onto the American stage, and for that reason I'll be voting for Senator Barack Obama," Powell said.
I don' know what Powell is thinking… crazy crazy crazy endorsement… he must've been paid large chunks of greens under the table!!!…. I know McCain will keep on fighting!!!
