Pouring Itself A Cup Of Ambition

We had the bestest weekend ever!!!

Seriously, BESTEST. WEEKEND. EVER.

We did soooo much! Not the least of which was going to see the new 9 to 5 the musical, which had its world premiere at the Ahmanson Theater here in Los Angeles.

The show still needs some trims and tweaks before it opens on Broadway next year, but…

It was good. Real good! Super fun, actually.

And, Stephanie J. Block was a revelation in the show!!!

We had never seen her in anything before, but we were just captivated by her performance as the Jane Fonda character.

A new diva is born!

Not only can she sing but she acts - so well - creating a beautiful, three-dimensional, living, breathing, feeling person onstage. And, ohhhh, does she sing!

Stefanie has THE song of the show, which she kills in the second act. She brings the house down!!!!

Block delivers a Tony-winning performance, and she'll easily - at least - get a nomination for Best Actress in a musical. We can't say enough good things about her!

And, Dolly's songs, of course, are fabulosity.

Two thumbs up and a pair of DDs all perked up!

I had bestest weekend ever too but it had NOTHING to do with a gay ass musical. HOMO.

I seen Stephanie Block as Elphaba when Wicked came to Dallas. She was amazing. I'm so glad she's moving forward up that ladder. She deserves it.

Just wanted to point out that Stephanie J. Block is not new to the Broadway stage - she starred in The Pirate Queen of a few years ago, she was in Wicked and she was in The Boy From Oz. She is certainly not a new name to real fans of Broadway, Perez. So don't act like she's in her very first major role. Okay?

Which part of your fan base are you trying to appeal to with this posting? Does anyone else feel totally uncomfortable reading this nonsense?

hate to break it to ya, but S.J. Block has been a Broadway diva since she played Liza opposite of Hugh Jackman in "The Boy from Oz".

dolly parton is a freak. layoff the plastic surgery already. gross.

As everyone has pointed out, Stephanie Block has been in other productions as well as being on the Original Broadway Soundtrack for The Boy from Oz. Everyone did an awesome job on this production. If Joe Mantello and Dolly Parton were smart, they would have this cast be on the original recording. And though Stephanie Block's solo was amazing, Kathy Fitzgerald's "Heart to Hart" and Marc Kudisch's "Here for You" solos were the real show stoppers. The only diva thing about Stephanie Block was her "secret exit" this weekend, avoiding all her fans at stage door.

While I'm happy to see 9to5 getting so much buzz, I take issue with what Perez has to say about Stephanie J Block. We LOVE her. *I* Fucking love her. Seeing her as Elphaba (and, as a consequence, losing my WickedVirginity), was one of the highlights of being an awkward teenager. She's a really sweet, kind person, who I'm lucky enough to have met… and HOLYGOD she can sing.

My problem with Perez is the following, "And, Stephanie J. Block was a revelation in the show!!! We had never seen her in anything before, but we were just captivated by her performance… A new diva is born! Not only can she sing but she acts …creating a beautiful, three-dimensional, living, breathing, feeling person onstage. And, ohhhh, does she sing!"

… Well, yeah. Of course she does. We KNOW. We are talking about the first woman to play Elphaba, The One and ONLY Pirate Queen and so on. In other words. A diva is not born. She's been around. So Perez, welcome to the club- you're now a Blockhead.

Loved SJB in The Pirate Queen. Can't wait to see 9 to 5.

  16. 16

By the way, the name is spelled StePHanie. Copy that!

  17. 17

Well DUH! Everyone that knows ANYTHING about broadway knows that stephanie rocks the house. You are the worst gay ever!

So just to echo everyone else, Stephanie J Block is not exactly a new comer and already a legit star. It's not like this is her first major role or anything. Nice try pretending to know about theatre though.
