Marriage and civil unions are not actually one in the same. To most people, including your ridiculous religious majority, marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. He did not say, and they have not said, that they disagree with civil unions. They have made a point in the past of saying they do agree with them, as Biden did here, but while on the record they avoid the issue of gay MARRIAGE because of the religious beliefs attached to the idea.

Each party have had a clear standing on gay issues all the time. And as you heard it, he does not support but to vote No on prop 8 does not mean you promote gay marriage. It just means that it's not my business or my position to dictate who should be married or who shouldn't.
