Some things just fail to translate.
NBC's American version of the Australian hit Kath and Kim has failed to connect with Aussie audiences.
The Oz network Seven bought the U.S. show, but they have just dropped it from their lineup!
The new Kath & Kim was removed from their schedule after only 2 outings. Awww, that's a bit unfair, don't ya think??? You gotta let a series get its legs or fail miserable, but it usually takes more than 2 episodes. Don't ya think???
The show premiered with a decent 1.23 million tuning in, but in the second week only 729,000 viewers came back for more.
Guess they thought it was best to cut their losses!

umm i am an aussie living in the USA at the moment and the US version of Kath and Kim is absolutely atrocious!!! the comedians that do the show in OZ are the equivalent of Tina Fey and Sarah Pohler- intelligent and witty! they wrote the script themselves and it is totally different… the aussie version of a redneck totally does not translate over here. y'all should bring out the aussie version here!

mmm.. i thort it wouldnt translate… the whole point of the show here (aus) is that they're full bogans its like laughing at ourselfs there's not really an american steriotype equivallent of that.. unless its hicks but there's already a million shows about hicks, and it uses ALOT of slang and.. and yeah selma blair doesnt even have muffin top! there is no way they can fix the show so doesnt surprise me.. besides channel 7 is the most FUCKED channel ever! they suck balls. they put 30 rock on at 11.30 at nite! and took away Ugly Bety!!! >:(
I was so looking forward to this show, and watched it last week and I didn't laugh once. Not a snicker, guffaw, chortle, giggle, nothing.

My Wife and I watched both episodes of this show that have aired so far here in the US and I must say…it's a stinker! The premiere episode was an epic failure and the 2nd episode (although much funnier) was pretty bad too. It's only a matter of time until this piece of shit gets cancelled. And it sucks, because I adore both women…it's just a pointless, unfunny, terrible show!

I'm not surprised at all. The American remake might have a lot of the same lines word-for-word, but it SUCKS. The original is awesome. AWESOME!

well maybe the US market should have watched the original version, this one was shit. Of course Aussies would not like it, and I agree the Aussie versions are like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (not sarah), they are very talented, and the reason we love it is because we can take the piss out ourselves and find it humorous.
that's why america should stop trying to re-make shows from other countries… the office is a prime example!!! if you've ever seen the british version, you'll know which one is better and it isn't the one with that annoying steve carrell in it.

I can understand why the US of A wanna remake this show the original was so funny! but the remake really misses the point! the original show was so basic, it was shot like a cheap reality TV show one camera, shot in some suburban home and a wardrobe from second hand clothing store!
I dont understand why the US version is so glitzy! they've spent so much money on it, there is a basic difference in US humor and the rest of the world. this is a prime example of a re-make messing around with the original concept so there is nothing left of what made it a good idea to copy it. This show should Be Noice and Un-newsual! thats why Its OVAH!

I'm from Australia, and yeah, didn't like it as much as I liked the original, but NO shows that are getting screened here are receiving much of a chance. So many programs are axed after 2 weeks. It's stupid.
Yup, watched the US version and it was pathetic. Please leave our aussie treasures alone. You cannot translate aussie into anything but aussie.
It has failed with Australians because they have already seen (and love…) the original version - so why would they want to see it re-hashed as an American version??
The US version directly copies story lines, characters and even right down the sound effects! If they had perhaps taken the idea but put their own (US) slant on it, well maybe it would have been better.
For an Australian to watch, its just like watching a bad version of Kath n Kim. Felt like watching a car crash.
I saw it - and I only needed to see it once to know it SUCKED! It was just too ridiculous; Selma's better than that.

The original Kath and Kim is HILARIOUS! The american one is..well..too "pretty" and not over the top enough.
I reckon they airred it 2 episodes too long. Why would be wanna watch that crap when we have our own brilliant version… don't try to fix what isn't broken. I'm sick of having our shows stolen and being made "americanised". I love you guys, but fuck, give us and our shows a chance, it's not all about you.

I watched it and it was terrible. They missed the whole point of the aus version, it was all about taking the piss. The American version is just another shite "comedy", minus the two comic genius' we Aussies had!!!

How terrible! I found this show on the internet and watched the first episode early. It is so funny!! Then I just missed it. Come on! More episodes!
Yeah australian networks suck balls, they take off anything that doesnt give them good ratings within a couple of episodes. Like 90210 gone with in 5 episodes, they expect any american show to be immediate sucess, they're too stupid to realise that everyone downloads them, cos they air them weeks later.

My friend from Argentina asked me once why Australian people who aren't as poor as many Argentinians act like complete trash, when people in Argentina who are far poorer don't get down to that level. I couldn't explain it.
The American version was remade in completely the wrong way. Our (Australia's) original is a satirical look at Aussie suburbia (they are NOT in the least bogan) - the whole premise of the show is as a fly-on-the-wall type thing, where as the American version was raped into a sitcom, set around the story line of season 1. jamez000 can deny it all he wants, but we can all identify with some part of each of the characters, and that was the beauty of the show - as much as they were all outlandish hyper-realisations of suburban stereotypes, they were still identifiable. Anyone who denies that is an elitist.
It was never going to work. I love Selma, Molly and John, and I don't blame them for the failure in the least - the producers and writers got it all wrong.
A little bit of reference for the foreigners - I don't think a single episode (out of four seasons and a tv movie) ever rated lower than the 1.23 million that watched the US premiere. It consistantly rated over 2 million per ep (that's roughly one in ten Aussie's watching it - the equivalent of 30 million Americans watching one show every week over 5 years).
Hopefully Jane and Gina get cracking on a new season for next year now that this mess is out of the way.
If the remake was being made in like, 10 years time, fair enough.
But what the HELL is the point of remaking something that's still being aired and then showing it in its country of origin? It's kind of insulting.
Has been done with this, Life on Mars, The Office, Queer as Folk, all of which have been absolutely shit compared to the originals. The (general) American sense of humour is way to oldschool slapstick to 'get' Kath & Kim.
i was looking forward to this show as i do like molly shannon, and kind of had the naive idea it would be like a female seinfeld. well, the first episode ended and i was like what the eff? never watched it again. i'll stick with ugly betty.
I'm not the biggest fan of the show but Selma Blair has chops - 'girl can act. The actress that plays her Mom…not so much.
This girl is severely pigeon toed and her face looks manly; why do you always say she looks so, "hawt?"

that's because american comedy really isn't that funny. some is good but you can't go and remake an australian show and expect it to be half as funny.
This show sucks. I tried to watch it and turned the channel 10 minutes into it. NBC needs to go ahead and cancel it now in America.

Who ever cared about this show! There is nothing appealing about it at all. Those photos of Selma Blair dressed up like trail trash was a turn off from day one. I want to see her in small independent movies. That is where she is at her best. The casting sucks. Why would the Aussies want to see it if they have their own version that that love so much. How can the us version live up to it! Who fucking cares about this?
I was looking so forward to this show, but the first episode wasn't that funny. The writing was pretty terrible, and you can only use the same jokes so long until I get bored.

What is it with you guys in the USA copying things from O/S tying to Americanise it and stuffing up the beauty of the orginials - if it's not TV shows it's Japanese horror films or other kick arse foreign flicks and they all suck (With the exception of Queer As Folk - which was fab and took it way past the originial)
