According to a new study, celebrities CAN influence young voter turnout.
A survey of 305 students at Washington State University found that celebrity initiatives, such as those led by Christina Aguilera, Beyonce Knowles, and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, with their go-out-there-and-vote attitude, actually compelled kids to well, do just that!
Hey, that's good news!
Headed by Erica Austin, the study looked at the effects of celebrities encouraging young people in 2004 and found that 44% of newly registered voters were ages 18 to 25.
This year, about 44 million people aged 18-29 are eligible to vote on November 4th. If more than 50% of those young voters actually hit the polls, that would be the third largest young voter turn out since the voting age was lowered.
And now we're telling you (again): MAKE SURE TO VOTE!
