"Hey everybody. There’re only a couple weeks left before we vote. In California there’s a proposition that’s trying to take away my right to be married. And if it passes, my marriage will probably no longer be valid.
The supporters of Proposition 8 have raised more than $25 million just to discriminate against same-sex couples who want to get married. That’s a lot of money.
I can think of 25 million other uses for all that money:
- How about paying teachers more?
- What about helping those people who just lost their homes in the recent fires?
- How about buying a pony for every child in California? How much fun would that be?!
Don’t let them convince you that discrimination is okay just because they can pay for a commercial. It’s wrong. Please vote NO ON PROPOSITION 8! I’m begging you. If you vote no on Prop 8, I’ll buy you a pony."

I know this isn't about John McCain, but I have to comment. In the 3rd presidential debate, McCain smuggly said that he would not place a litmus test on a supreme court judge, such as asking whether he/she was pro-life or pro-choice, but that he'd appoint judges based on their merits. When asked if that meant he'd appoint a pro-choice judge, he said he hadn't met one that was qualified yet! LOL! Talk about double-speak. The same is true of Prop 8. He tries to earn votes by claiming he is against banning same-sex marriage (like Obama) because it's a decision that he believes should be left up for the states to decide. Well, California has DECIDED, and rightfully so, to ALLOW gays and lesbians to marry. So then WHY is McCain FOR Prop 8??? His attempts at masking his homophobia and sexism just makes him look pathetic. Old and pathetic. Go Ellen!!!

Ellen makes some great points, and I completely agree with her.
I will just point out one thing. Everyone is always going on and on about how teachers are underpaid. Yes, teachers are underpaid, but they often make more than social workers! Registered social workers are in just about the most underpaid/least respected profession out there! The job requires a master's degree, yet started salaries are often on par (or lower) with teacher's jobs (and many teachers DO NOT have a Master's degree).
So when people want to say "why not pay (insert underpaid profession here) more" I wish they would include social workers sometimes!

Isn't the whole purpose for Prop 8 to let California decide whether to keep it legal or not? If that's the case then California hasn't yet decided and if I remember correctly, back in 2000 Prop 22 was passed by Californians to ban same sex marriages so right now it's still up in the air.

Actually, California voted for Prop 22 in 2000 that said marriage was between a man and a woman. The California State Supreme Court is the one that decided to make marriage between gay couples legal. California voted and four judges decided to change what Californians wanted.
