      Well…it is true that she is more underground than those others…but she's not as good (not even as Katy Perry, who I don't really like!!) and she's certainly NOT the future…her music is just sensationalist/exhibitionist pap that pretty much blows monkeys. but I did buy that track when it was in the Top Ten, so aren't I the sucker.

      She is an example of subprime music production bringing the industry down…just like real estate. Giving record deals to people who don't have the chops or the work ethic and interesting places to go.

      This is why labels exist to cultivate acts that have real potential, like the Jonai, and she'll be a passing wonder.

      Re: Moimeme – You sound like the typical mainstream music consumer. You criticize Maya's "potential", yet you admit to buying "Paper Planes" when it was popular. As for her talent and potential, she's released 2 albums in her young career and both were hailed by critics the world over for their innovation and creativity. Who cares if she's not commercially viable or whatever. She makes innovative records with some of the greatest beatmakers alive.
      She's not as good as Katy Perry or the Jonas Bros.? I would agree with you, except I'm not a 14-year-old girl from the Midwest with limited exposure to anything that isn't on the radio or featured in the pages of Tiger Beat. Keep listening to whatever the Ryan Seacrest Show tells you to.

I have been way more into underground (real underground), indie (when there was a real indie) and European & world music. Don't assume you know who my favorite bands are…And to be fair I can't really stand Katy Perry…but I do think she's marginally better than M.I.A. :)

      I do like the Jonas Brothers, though, LOL….eventually, when you're not blinded by insecure pretensions (most people grow out of them…I will hope you are young!)…you learn to distinguish that not all "indie" is good, and not all "mainstream" is bad, and that to judge an artist by their fanbase and marketing scheme makes you look musically ignorant.

Did I say it was her song? No. What I am saying is that she is only getting put out there now because of it, and i honestly hate the way boyz and paper planes got chopped up and redone.
