I will try to re-phrase myself, because OBVIOUSLY the last time I put my two cents in on this situation, people couldn't grasp the fact that I wasn't supporting the use of this word and people's right to say it, but stating my opinion of why these PSA's are complete garbage.. Hate-filled slurrs are thrown around everyday, I don't understand why it is more important to tell kids that is horrible to call something "gay" but not stress the fact that all hateful slurrs should be thought about before being thrown around. Is it okay to go around calling something "retarted" for instance? Why can't they make public service about that?

I know the girl, Lynnette Schweimler. I went to high school with her and sat next to her in a few classes. She is an amazing person who has done some pretty great things. Most of you guys are ignorant and need to shut up. Saying "that's so gay" is pretty lame, to be quite honest. Everyone should understand that Hilary is trying to help people make moral decisions about the words they use, she's NOT telling you it's illegal or anything. Just because it's not illegal doesn't mean it's OK morally. This is a very important part of teaching the youth how to be accepting towards everyone.

"That's so gay" is never going to go away…it's like saying "that sucks"…which people don't even stop to think about when they say it! "Gay" has become another word for "stupid" or "dumb" and that's just not going to change. Just like "suck" = "not cool," do you ever stop to think when you say "that sucks" that you're referring to "sucking dick" or "giving a blowjob?" No, it has a different meaning when used in that context just as the word "gay" does now too!

Well in contrast to all the ignorant people below me, I think its a smart move. I'm very liberal and support gays, but still overuse the phrase "That's so gay." Since I've seen these PSA's, I've actually caught myself about to use the phrase and using a different word instead. If it's changing the way I act and what I say, it must be changing others too and I think that says a lot!
