      Linens N Things is closing! Maybe cuz its EXACTLY the same as Bed, Bath & Beyond. Same layout, same merchandise. Linens N Things is very expensive. I'd prefer to shop at Target

      Mervyns closed down in my town about a year ago- the employees there told me that Mervyns West was all shutting down, so I think this has been going on pre-economy meltdown. What about Circuit City? I think they are about to go under…

      chill out….that isn't necessarily because of the economy…those stores didn't have great business models in the first place and weren't highly competitive.

      Linens and Things has been hurting for a long while now- Mervyn's is closing because they failed to keep up with changing demand and Kohl's moved in and stole what was left of their clientele. Yeah things suck, but these stores may have closed anyway in a healthy economy.

      I don't necessarily see this as a sign of the economy. Why would people pay more for things at Linens and Things, if they can get the same stuff cheaper at Target. There are no Mervyns here in New York, but I have seen them in WA. And I agree with the previous poster…. Kohls has taken a lot of business because they offer deep discounts. I believe this is referred to as capitalism.

      Uhm, this has been going on for a long time Perez. It isn't a shocking revelation. They filed for Chapter 11 back in July.

      In MN, Mervyns has been closed for a long time, I've missed it! And I liked Bed Bath and Beyond better so I won't miss Linens N Things.

      We still have a mervyns here in Arizona. I feel like I stepped over the border- the isles are full of cheap crap and the music played on the intercom is all mexican music - plus try and find a salesperson- forget about it. Sorry but off to kohls I go with my wallet.

      I think Mervyn's has been in some financial issues for awhile too…the local one closed about 4 years ago. No big deal, it wasn't that good of a store anyway.

      my son worked security at Mervyns when it was part of Target. It was sold and then quietly closed in my town years ago-we had two stores. I was never fond of the chain and maybe shopped once or twice. sad but not unexpected.
