Tom Ford, From Fashionista to Film Director!

Tom Ford - the man who dabbled in a little bit of everything before falling into fashion and virtually reviving the Gucci brand - has finally landed his first long sought-after filmmaking position.

Ford is set to direct a film called A Single Man. Taking place in 1962, the film revolves around a British college-professor character and how he deals with the loss of his partner of 16 years. Colin Firth will be playing the main character, alongside Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode.

Production begins on Monday in Los Angeles.

Tom Ford is most noted for his work in fashion, and particularly for his role in making Gucci the brand that it is. But he left fashion to pursue the entertainment world, hoping to bring his vision to the industry. He's worked on a handful of projects and even started his own production company.

While the likes of Tom Hanks and Daniel Craig have sported his styles on the red carpet, and through Ford's friendship with Craig he ended up designing the Bond wardrobe for Quantum of Solace, this will be his first opportunity to fashion a film.
