The definition of marriage since the beginning civilization has ALWAYS been between heterosexuals. You can't take an apple and redefine it to an orange. You can't take an orange and redefine it to an apple. It is just that simple. It is the definition of the word. Do you get it? IT IS THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD. I have found a lot of people like to describe marriage as a "piece of paper" or "civil/legal document". But it is also a social institution and for many, a religious one. Don't take that away from us. Find your own definition of marriage, such as a civil union with all the same legal benefits. But please don't encroach on our institution that we entered into as our declaration of devotion between a man and a woman.

Marriage is a RELIGIOUS ceremony and the Bible is clear that it is between a man and a woman. If gays want to be together, fine, but call it something other than marriage. I hear very few Republicans saying these people should be denied their human rights so quit making it a political issue.

When the house convened, a bill was brought forth to ask that the california constitution be modified into defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Out of the seven voters, four of them VOTED not to accept this definition. So now, we are back to square one. Marriage is still undefined. The only reason gay people weren't getting married before was because municipalites refused to issue marriage liscences. THAT is illegal. Everything that has happened so far has been constitutional. Even this Proposition you people are trying to pass is the democratic legal way to make marriage limited to man/woman. So no… nothing has been done illegally. There is absolutely nothing in the state or federal constitution that says marriage is only between a man and a woman. NO ONE STOLE MARRIAGE. It has always been available for anyone who wants it in the first place!!!

Christians have the gift of salvation through God giving his only son to pay for our sins. That is why Jesus is sooo special to us, because he took the price for all of our sins. All of the stuff you mentioned, is things that people had to do before we were given the gift of salvation through Jesus doing the work for us. It is a HUGE GIFT!!!!!! Christians don't have to follow the old law, God saved us from it.

I will vote Yes only because marriage was created for a man and a woman as the Bible says. Now whether or not poeple then choose to be faithful or go to church or do whatever they want, that's their own perosnal choice, but when you go back to the basics, it was meant to be between a man and a woman. I have been with eoman, so I have no problem with people's sexual orientation. The problem is that marriage is not meant to be between two men or two women. You might think that it is hypocritical that I have been with other sexes yet I don't support gay marriage, but that is a personal choice. If I go to hell or commit a sin it's my propblem, but no one is going to change the words of the Bible for me nor should they to say that gays should be allowed to be together, just like the Bible won't be changed to say Marriage can be allowed for gays. I think that there should be a form of union between these couples that wil give them the same rights as married couples, it just should be called marriage. Also in the future I am sure this law will pass. People aren't ready for it right now, I don't think society is ready to accept it. Poeple are just getting use to the idea of having a half black president - One step at a time, we'll get there soon. Also I don't think the government should take away the foundation of religious ideas. Such as saying "Merry Christmas" Now media is only allowed to say "Happy Holidays" why don't people bitch about that?

Re: ashbert13 – I think a lot of people have a moderate amount of knowledge about religions. You have to get past the ritual of the religion as "religion" is a way of practice. It doesn't mean god, or christian or muslim. Being a Christian is about a relationship. It is believing in Christ. It is chosing to follow him over all the other "gods". It doesn't mean perfect by any means. Worry less about going to hell for choosing who you worship and more about worshiping. You will know in your heart if you pick the right one. And usually that means the one that makes you feel the most uncomfortable with, but that will change when you actually expereince God's love. You'll know it is right. By the way, I am gay. I've had to deal with self, god, the church, family, friends…like many out there. But I know that Jesus died for my sins and I know he is here with me, even when I screw up or say or do the wrong thing. I don't live in CA, so I am not voting on the marriage issue. I really don't know any gay people who live in my city who would. Civil Unions, let the straights keep their marriage. We just want equal rights.
