A Sad Fact

The majority of Latinos and Blacks voted IN FAVOR of Proposition 8 in California.

This breaks our heart and confuses us so much.

Why would people who themselves are often victims of discrimination discriminate against others????

Our guess is that those communities are also more religious.

Well, you know what???? Jesus loves us! And God made us gay!!!!

Civil marriage has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with equality - equal rights, privileges and protections.

So sad.

Being hispanic myself, I am quite embarrassed that this passed. I am a bit confused thoug. the institute of marriage is a religious tradition. Civil Unions are not. Why are gays and lesbians fighting for something that is based on a religious beliefs? Just beat the religious idiots at their own game. Encourage civil unions that include all the benefits of a married couple. The religious freaks can't take that away from you

      Re: Haterade – ———EXACTLY!!!

    3. 403

Why does this surprise? Most blacks and latinos have conservative values. They only voted for Barack because they think they're gonna get more checks and stuff. There will be a baby boom among blacks trying to get more welfare from the democrat. Guaranteed.

    4. 404

THATS YOUR NEW PRESIDENT PEREZ!! HAHAHA WE'RE SO FUCKED!

    5. 405

get over it. its passed. people
voted. you and your boy will
never be able to get married.
      face it.

    6. 406

Aw perez, i hate to say it, but as you know some people belive that being gay is against the bible (STUPID RIGHT?!?!?) but the blacks and latinos of california are the biggest catholics in the u.s.a, im so sorry! ill be at the protest!

    7. 407

Genetics makes gayness; their is no "choice" involved. Deal with it.

    8. 408

Re: lynxcat – omg yes thank you
perez hunny i love you but why are you saying you guess 'in those communities' aren't you latino yourself. you knew by putting those words on here it would do nothing but bring out the racist you should be ashamed of yourself. i am sorry that it got passed because I am for gay marriage but please do not compare the two. marriage itself in the bible does state it's between a man n woman but i say fuck the bible it was man written and the hell with church becuase it was man produced God just wants you to love him and be the best person you can be no matter of your race, gender,or sexuality. and you know what you can use the bible to justify anything you want thats why people who are religious for the most part are nothing but hypocrites! but again perez dont try n compare the two and taunt people into making racial stereotypical comments its quite a pathetic and stupid attempt on your part since you were campaigning for a half black man and you are of latin descent u just make yourself look stupid

    9. 409

Just like perez say people have the right to vote what they want. Most latinos are christian and most blacks are baptist so why should they go out their way for what they believe in. I am a christian I HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER TALK DOWN on someone different than me. I respect gays for who they are and i know they are people just like me, but my religion comes first! They want respect I'll give them all my respect in the world. But my god comes first just like your pride comes to you, SO RESPECT OUR DECISIONS. We don't stop you from doing your thing, so don't bring religion into this, because that is a coward move, you should know better people.

    10. 410

Re: peopleplease – hey asshole why dont you stfu
and take your racists comments and shove them up your ass
not all black/latin people on our welfare you dumbfuck
thank goodness there are more educated people in this world than people like you

    11. 411

Re: gemma0505 – *on our welfare program*

    12. 412

Ahhh OMG shut up!!! GOD DID NOT MAKE YOU GAY!!!! Ugh you people are messed up!

    13. 413

IM A MEXICAN ND I VOTED NO!

    14. 414

I was so mad at the whole "family values" argument! Family values are what you teach your children about being accepting and treating everyone equal, it is not based on whether or not your neighbors are married and gay!

    15. 415

"God makes us gay", What god are you referring to??? Ala??
Perez, you show your ignorance once again, being gay is a lifestyle that people choose mostly based on their frustrations, insecurities, etc. if you want to live your life that way it's up to you but don't be asking us to change the meaning of marriage…
Remember God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve…

    16. 416

I don't believe in divorce, does that mean everyone should be forced to stay in a bad marriage and be miserable? I don't think the church looks to fondly on that, but you don't hear the holy rollers saying to stop divorce! Divorce does more damage to families than gay marriage.

    17. 417

      hey perez,
i am a 39-year-old black woman who voted against propostion 8 and am very sad that it has passed but let me tell you, most black people hate when our homosexual bros & sisters compare their discrimination to our discrimination. it is not the same! when u see us u know immediately that we are black or latino…when i look at u or anyone else, i don't assume or know for fact that you are gay or lesbian.

    18. 418

I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD BE FREE TO BE WHO THEY ARE AND WITH WHO THEY WANT TO BE WITH. I BET FOLKS GOT IT CONFUSED. THOUGHT VOTING YES WOULD MEAN YES THE GAYS CAN MARRY. INSTEAD OF YES IT WRONG PUT AN END TO IT… NOW IM QUESTIONING HOW I VOTED.. IM FOR GAY MARRIEG BUT I THINK I HIT YES IM FOR IT NOT REALIZING THAT MEANT I WAS AGAINST IT. STUPID I KNOW BUT I BET I WASNT THE ONLY ONE THAT MADE THAT MISTAKE.

    19. 419

That's terrible. If I lived in California, I would have voted NO!! It's so crazy that people just cannot accept others despite their religion, race, or sexual preference.

One day Perez, one day!!! Keep fighting and don't give up. My husband and I both live in a little hick closed minded town……all Mccain supporters of course and a lot of times I feel as if we do not belong here because we are so open and we accept anyone and everyone no matter what.

Just like history was made last night, history will be made again…… in the mean time let me know anything I can do to get the word out and help do whatever I can!

    20. 420

what!? Yo soy latina and I was appaled by prop 8! NO on Hate. I voted NO! How do they know these things anyway…

    21. 421

So much hate.. so much intolerance.
Reading comments can really be a headshaker. Sad, sad, sad.
I can understand all points of view here really. Even though I'm not Christian myself I can understand a religious person being against gays and their marriage due to things said in the bible, but..
If there's a separation between "marriage" and "civil union" wouldn't everyone be happy? Civil Union is pretty much equal to marriage in a lot of places and as far as I know works quite well.
Besides.. the way I see it, who are you to tell a gay couple they can't be Christian or whatever they choose to be? Whether you agree with it or not, it doesn't really affect you. Do you really think God will punish you because other people were gay and got married? Do you NOT think people should have the religious freedom to interpret and act on their religion however they like? Maybe they should have their own church or branch, I don't know.. I don't really know how that works (don't tell me that was an ignorant comment. I'm aware I'm not knowledgeable on the subject). All I know is, there should be some kind of way to compromise and sort this out!
I'm all for gay marriage myself. They're just people like you and me who can't help the way they are, that's what I think.
Either way, whatever side you're on, open your mind!
Thank goodness for Obama making President. Real progress America! Congrats! (I'm Canadian!) Peace!!!

    22. 422

::"God made you gay" Wow that's the most ignorant thing I've ever heard.
Let me see hear, is it just a coincidence that EVERY single person gay person I have EVER met has been molested/abused when they were younger (I live in SF so I know A LOT and are friends with so many)…is that a coincidence??? Yah coincidence….I'm really sure::

If that's actually true, yes, it is a coincidence. And, it makes no sense. Lots of people get abused and molested, sadly, regardless of their orientation, and it never affects them one way or another because sexual orientation is INNATE. Even science and psychological studies show it's genetic. I'm into chicks, and I had a wonderful upbringing and never suffered a traumatic event, nor did I even know a gay person until I was about 15, at which time I'd been crushing on girls since grade school.

    23. 423

"Civil marriage has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with equality - equal rights, privileges and protections" - those comments are ignorant and delusional. are you just straight out lying to yourself now? it IS religous,. its a religous ceremony and institution so why get so bent about it if you are not a believer of God {a christian} [sure the marriage is recognised by law but isnt civil union?] the last 3-4 weeks you have been more hateful than ever i can barely read the nasty things you say about people [underservingly]. i feel like crap after ive read your words. if you want to preach love perez i think you better start with yourself [how you treat ppl and discriminate against others] your unbelievably inconsistant and hypocritcal. {your fighting to stand before a priest and get married before God-but yeah,. has NOTHing to do with religion}?????

    24. 424

Re: CrazyBeautiful84 – YOU ARE A FUCKING ASSHOLE! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU ON THIS GAY MAN'S WEBSITE?? YOU KNOW IT'S A LIBERAL SITE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WHERE YOUR BELIEFS ARE VALUED. OH MY GOD, YOUR IGNORANCE MAKES ME SICK! FUCKING JERK..

Ok. Personnaly I think it's sad that Proposition 8 was passed as I believe in equal rights to all minorities. But all the religion bashing?? I am not a religious person but a lot of people here are just assuming that religion is to blame for this. How can you open the eyes of small minded people by being small minded yourself?? It's tragic but don't perpetuate the hate by throwing stones back, I thought we were all better than that. Sorry about Proposition 8 though, it is a tragic day for the gay community :(

      Religion..
Now, do not get me wrong, I appreciate that everyone is different and has their own views ideas and beliefs…

BUT I just do not get why people advocate and say their religion and themselves are accepting of others, free of discrimination etc. when CLEARLY this is not the case - Most people that are from different religions (that I have come into contact with) are NOT accepting unless it is of their own beliefs and values etc.

      DISCRIMINATION.

AND for all that voted YES on H8, who are you to dictate ones choices (sorry my question mark button is not working..) We are all lucky enough to be apart of North America, to have the right to vote, and to have choice on what you think is and is not right, BUT why should you be the common factor in deciding what someone does in their personal life…how would you feel if someone told you who you could and could not marry.

      That is all. haha

    27. 427

God clearly says in the Bible he is against homosexuality and the perversion and lust that comes with it. God didn't make you gay, but He can deliver you from tat sin. Homosexuality is just another sin. And it says that "a sin is a sin is a sin" everybody struggles, we just have to seek deliverance from our own sins. Don't be deceived.

    28. 428

      AMEN

    29. 429

God made you gay, but God also is known for creating oddities of nature. Homosexuality, while documented for centuries, serves no reproductive or adaptive function. Scientists have already demonstrated that they can reverse homosexuality on a rat. Sure, you're more "accepted now," but just remember: the rest of us are just putting up with you.

Religion should not play a part in this.
Because we can´t tell people what to do based on what we believe in. If so, we would have to tell like…mormons to live in a different way.
It sounds pathetic to me that California has taken this path. I was so happy for them when they showed that they could open their minds and now….it´s all gone.

      Shame, shame.

    31. 431

I think it's the wording that was used on the ballot that made peoploe vote yes. I personally don't have anything against gays but I feel it should be done in a different way. Once we allow those things to go down it would mean we have to change our text books in the schools for the kids, teaching kids that being gay is … I think it's okay for those who CHOOSE to be gay but I don't feel that we should teach my children about that in school because kids are vulnerable and they absorb everything they hear, so we must be very careful when we put it out there. I say there should be protection but behind closed doors. Gays is not accepted by all and we must not shove that in their childrens faces if they choose not to teach it to them. I say give the gays rights but in a different way, "WATCH THE WORDING" dont' teach it in school, but allow everyone to have equal benefits!!!

    32. 432

Because the blacks only care about THEIR rights and discrimination against THEM. Not about discrimination to any other groups…don't you know that by now!

    33. 433

Re: Wendy23 – Because you already died, saw him and came to life again!

    34. 434

It's so sad. We don't need more discrimination…

    35. 435

I could careless if your black, white , green, or orange. But God did not make people gay. Any one who has read the Bible knows better. But I am Christian and I could careless if your gay or straight who am I to judge that's in Gods hands not mine. Life is life we all will pay of price for what we enjoy. Look at planet earth it rapidly is going to pot because of the enjoyment we received from its resources. You are no better than the person your standing next too!

    36. 436

Perez the thing is that the latinos or at least the majority are very very VERY!! shit mouthed…… meaning that they would say that gays are all pink, girlish, idiot and fragile kind of man, and for woman it would be the contrary. Latinos judge a community by one person. An to tell you the truth amor, the latinos treat people like that cuz some of us believe that every shitty thing done to us has to be repaid to someone.……… im sorry for the other latinos that are so close minded but let me tell u something!!! SOY GAY Y CON ORGULLO!

    37. 437

JUST B.C U ARE AN ETHNIC MINORITY DOES NOT MEAN U HAVE TO SUPPORT HOMOSEXUALITY..PIGREZ AND ITS VIEW OF LIFE IS SOOOOOOOO SIMPLISTIC..NONETHELESS, PROP H8TE IS A SETBACK !!!
