Proposition 8 Protest Rally & Street Closures
Wednesday, November 5th
As deeply disappointed as we all are that California voters passed Proposition 8, we must not allow that disappointment to linger. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America.
Please join me for a protest rally tonight at 7 pm on San Vicente Blvd between West Hollywood Park and the Pacific Design Center (647 N. San Vicente Blvd. West Hollywood CA 90069) as we move forward towards restoring equality for all in California.
San Vicente Blvd, between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose Avenue will be closed tonight starting at 6 pm. San Vicente south-bound traffic will be directed to make left or right at Santa Monica Blvd. Signs have already been posted to help divert traffic.

There is still hope though…I believe u need 60% or more of the votes in order to pass, but votes will nt be recounted if it is 350,000 or less votes between the choices.

the thing is not all the people spoke- a majority of absentee and provisional ballots still have not been counted. I went to the polling place I was told to by the city of Los Angeles and my name did not appear on any of the rosters- nor were many other people who were at my polling center at 8 AM, people who had been going to the same place for 20 plus years! I think it's been stated that there are approximately 3 million provisional ballots and absentees still being counted. Once they are and if it is still Yes then you will be right- either way there is still a fight ahead that will continue until there is equality for all, because that is what America stands for. I'm not gay, but I have plenty of friends who are and it just doesn't seem ok that I can get married and they can't.
You know I am saddened that Prop 8 did not pass here in California as well as Amendment 2 in Florida cause I have gays in my family and with nothing but happiness for them and now they will just have to continue the way they are. BUT as for you Perez, I bet you didn't know that Dr. Martin Luther King was REPUBLICAN, YES THAT'S RIGHT REPUBLICAN…you asshole!

No one is harmed except when rights are being taken away and downplayed; it's about equality, and whether it is two women or two men or a man and a woman, it's about love between two people. Marriage is supposedly too sacred for gays and lesbians and yet that doesn't stop the divorces from raging across the country between one man and one woman? As much as I can't stand the bigot Prime Minister we have in Canada, at least we have equal rights when it comes to marriage here. America is supposed to be the best country and very nature of Freedom, but it constantly shows that it is far from it. I really feel for all of you in America over this loss. I agree with having MLK's picture up there because he fought for equal rights, and this is what it comes down to: equal rights. This news makes me very sad; I have to move down there in the next several years, and I only hope that the U.S. gets in the 21st century and not the 12th!

There are those who are completely against having a black president and that’s very sad to me. Race should simply not matter as long as they’re going to do their job the way it SHOULD be done.

Re: PamelaIsley – Thank you! I feel sorry for the state of our supposed "great country" as well. It's been very difficult to be proud of being an American… it really has. It constantly amazes me that people can genuinely hate people they know nothing about to such a great extent. I'm hoping Obama (or really, anyone) will turn things around enough to where people realize that radical behavior needs to cease in order to obtain the peace we all hope for.
I suppose we'll never get anyone to understand that true equality begins with understanding, acceptance, and love. If they're not capable of that kind of love (which many are proving they aren't) then I hope they can at least replace love with a higher level of tolerance.

The residents of California voted on this issue and it didn't go the way Perez wanted so he supports that this should now be handed over to a court. That's complete and utter BS. If it went the way you wanted Perez and then the defeated side took it to court would that be fair? No. Once it's voted on then courts have no say in the decision because one has already been determined by the ppl. This is a contradiction. If you believed in equal rights, you would give gays the same rights as everyone else, as that constitutes "Equal". Barack had his day and proved that anything is possible in this country, and clearly gays will have there's soon enough.
