Equality Is NOT For All???

81594823.jpg

It is with great sadness that we report….

Proposition 8 most likely passed in California, effectively writing discrimination into the state constitution and prohibiting gays and lesbians from marrying.

As it stands now, around 52% of Californians voted in favor of prop 8, and 48% voted NO on H8te.

However, all hope is NOT lost!!!!!

About 3 million absentee and provisional ballots have yet to be counted. We know that we - and many of our friends voted via absentee ballots - so hopefully when everything is said and done, the numbers will turn around and the NOs will be in the majority.

You see, EVERY VOTE mattered! We sure hope (lots of hope in this post) that U voted.

Unfortunately, discriminatory measures did pass in Florida, Arizona and Arkansas, treating gays and lesbians like second class citizens.

Today is a great day for most Americans but a sad sad day for gay Americans!

According to Exit Polls Every ethnic group supported marriage equality, except African-Americans, who voted overwhelmingly against extending to gay people the civil rights once denied them: a staggering 69 - 31 percent African-American margin against marriage equality.

I am starting to see a pattern. Large numbers of Jews were workers for Civil rights in the south, some were even killed and hung. Yet for years people like Farrakan and Sharpton demonized Jews. Now the gay community supports African American candidates, supports civil rights and what happens? They treat us the same way the larger country once treated them. Using the excuse of morality and religeon, the SAME reasons once given for denying them the right to marry somebody of a different race. I have one comment for the Black Community. Since you are so religeous. How about a little bit of loving your neighbor as yourself?

  2. 2

    so sad

  3. 3

    I am so sorry.

You know, even though we have taken great strides as a nation, we still are taking two steps forward and one step back.

Let's hope that with Obamas help, we can really take this country to the next level.

  4. 4

Perez its also a sad day for NON gay americans. i'm highly disappointed in this idiotic proposition winning.

  5. 5

Yay!!!!!!! Even flaky California has some common sense. Who would have thought?

  6. 6

Homophobe equals - GAY in the closet.
    -
Why on earth would anyone stand in the way of a marriage between two loving people?
    -
Only hate-mongers would — have fun in Hell, hatemongers. Doubt you'll get into heaven.

  7. 7

    I wish I was in cali 2 vote…..I would vote yes!!!! I think…lol

  8. 8

I am sorry:( I wish I could have voted for that Prop. Keep the faith!!!

Stop Liberal Judges from overturning the will of the People.

  10. 10

thats just…. sick. Why can't people pull their heads outta their asses and just allow EVERYONE to have freedom? it just baffles me.

  11. 11

I voted NO on 2 in Florida. That doest mean we cant make out in public and shock all the straights!!

I sincerely wish you the best of luck. I am from Pennsylvania but I requested all of my friends from California to Vote NO! The end of this type of discrimination must start somewhere and I sincerely hope the people of California agree!

So Sad!! Arkansas is another state full of idiots!!!

    First!

  26. Sammy says – reply to this

    26

So does this mean those who married are not married anymore? I agree people should be able to have the right to love whom the please, but, America may not be ready for this yet, I think they are taking baby steps, first a black man in the white house, then maybe gay rights, maybe eventually some day we will not be racist towards hispanics. We focus on gays and other groups rights but, hispanic families are being torn apart, people who just want to work and have a better life, those people who beleive we should all be equal, do not think that way when it comes to the hispanic population and that is sad cause they are here for a need, yet they are treated extremely bad!!

  27. 27

I REALLY hope it acutally passes in Ca.!! I am ashamed to say that I live in Florida and very ashamed of the people who live in the state and promote hate. I voted no here in Florida, but for those who voted yes I hope you like having so many peoples unhappiness on your shoulder. Love you Perez and hope one day you can get married if you want to!!!

  28. ... says – reply to this

    28

  30. 30

Perez, you can't always have everything go your way. Just be thankful for the good things that have indeed happened and be greatful you don't live in a country (Iraq) where you would be stoned to death if found to be gay.

  31. 31

Sad. Sad. Sad. Treating people as second class citizens is not okay, I don't care what your Bible says, there is a separation of church and state for a reason.

  32. 32

Does that mean that the marriages in CA are now invalid? Confusion.

  33. 33

so, so lame. i guess that's what 73 million dollars of church money buys you.

i proudly voted HELL NO on 8 at city hall in SF yesterday, and then i had hot lesbian sex!

the only good part of this post is how cute my boy gavin newsom is. and fuck yeah for ancient dykes getting married…

dont give up yet kids! well see how this turns out! in the meantime, have (safe) gay sex in support of your right to do so!!!!!!!!

  34. 34

As a Canadian I am very sad to read that Proposition 8 will pass. Everyone should be treated the same regardless of who they are (including Sarah Palin).

  35. 35

Our supreme court justices will no longer be selected by haters so that challenges to these laws can actually now have a chance, we may have lost the battle, but we won the WAR!

  36. 36

  41. 41

i feel sorry for the citizens of california. this is a sad day for everyone. why cant the govt just leave its citizens alone…..

  42. 42

SHOCKED! WHAT THE HELL! VERY SAD

  43. 43

thank god i live in Canada when i hear about archaic crap like this that shouldn't even be an issue with everything else going on in the world

  44. 44

sorry to dissapoint u fatty, but i voted …. YES on 8

  45. 45

oh no! Keep thinking positive! I hope the absentee's pull through!

  46. 46

You democratic idiots with no money must base your decisions on a dartboard. Just throw a dart and whatever idea it lands on you go with. None of you make any sense. Thank God Barrack Obama won. NO president can save us from this mess right now. He just filled you all up with empty promises and walked into a barb wire fence. Your party is on the verge of extinction now. Oh ya, news jsut broke that troops won't be able to leave for at least 36 months, not 18 like Osama said. Well, there's lies number 1.

  47. 47

Too many religious homophobes in this country. At least Obama kicked the shit out of McCain.

  48. 48

Aw that's crap. Are Americans allowed Civil Partnerships like in Britain?

  49. 49

    breaks my heart Perez
    I'm so sorry.

  50. 50

Dear Perez, my heart is aching. My whole body feels deep, deep sadness. I am ashamed to be a Californian. It is such irony that on this great historic day, when not only 50 years ago we wouldn't even permit black Americans to look at white Americans, we have a black President elect and people enthusiastically cheer for equality; yet we have systematically discriminated against our LGBTQ community across this country. It's more devastating in California. I don't think people realize: we weren't voting to extend a right to a group of people. THESE PEOPLE WERE ALREADY GIVEN THE RIGHT TO MARRY AND THOUSANDS HAVE BEEN MARRIED IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. This state voted to take away rights; to take away what they deserve simply for being human; to take away what they have already unnecessarily fought to earn; to take away what this state's SUPREME COURT found to be written in our constitution. But what makes it so horrible is that we did not only discriminate in California. We have disowned human beings. I'm not going to ask 'why' or 'how' or 'what are you all so afriad of.' Simply, it is disgusting. I am ashamed to be a human being when we treat each other in such despicable manners. And, so, my heart aches. We have let each other down. For this I am extremely sorry and so much more.

  51. 51

Re: Princess Bitch – you said "Do not compare gays to the plight of blacks."
    ___________________________________________________________

You're right, YOU never had to tell your parents you were black, you never had to worry about being thrown out of the house, losing all your friends, or not being able to walk down your street in your own neighborhood because you were black, you never had to worry about whether or not you were strong enough to fight your way out of a movie theater because somebody saw you holding your boyfriends hand because you and he were both black. You never had to pull three teenagers with bats off a bloody stranger that and chase them off only to have them ask why you were defending the fag. That didn't happen because he was black, it happened because he was gay. So I will compare any damn thing I want.

  52. 52

So sad. Well, watch out for the parades and fairs next summer. For all of the straights who were Yes on 8 because they had to protect their kiddies from the evils of love, you may want to stay home. I have no doubt there will be a sexual revolution coming.

  53. 53

I knew it wouldn't pass. Not h8ing, just being logical. Too many idiots out there.

  54. 54

Re: mizz.tush – You obviously do not have kids. The public schools would take it and run with it. They already did in San Fran by taking 6 year olds to a lesbian wedding on a field trip. Sexuality of any kind is not a topic for young kids. Thank God for private school.

  55. 55

Re: Harvard Grad – You are an idiot. Obama won the election but will not be sworn in untill Jan. 20th 2009. He is not making any decisions yet. What lies are you talking about??? Are you twelve??

  56. 56

taking a page from the obama campaign handbook, we need to be the change we seek. if we don't win equal rights this time around, that only means we have to fight harder.

use your skills… your talents… your resources…. your voice to bring about positive and real change. get motivated. get active!

there's a reason they're called equal RIGHTS - not equal "privileges."

  57. 57

While this is none of my concern because I don't live in California, maybe now Perez, you will realize that you hold no influence on people who visit your website. We come here for celebrity gossip not to have politics forced down our throats. Maybe you can cut back on your political threads now because campaigning for Prop 8 here didn't help.

  58. 58

Of course blacks voted, blacks are the most homophobic group and they were ALL OUT TO VOTE for their boy Obama, kind of ironic how blacks discriminate against other groups (they also hate latinos, and latinos are actually a bigger minority) when they have been descriminated and treated unfairly for decades. Oh well, they're ignorant monkeys anyway.

and Perez, I really have to tell you that you SUCK, you give gay people a bad name.

  59. 59

Re: PIGezHIVton – I hope you get anally raped with a knife.

  60. 60

Will you look at that… boxing announcer, Michael Buffer is marrying these two broads. What did he tell these old ladies after their vows were professed?

    "Let's Get Ready To Rumbleeeeeeeeeeeee!"

  61. Ecca says – reply to this

    61

    Re: PIGezHIVton

How very Christian of you… oh wait.. its not. If you were you'd think that God is not capable of mistakes. God loves everyone as equal as everyone else.

Prop 8 is a terrible mistake for California. By denying gay people the right to marry who they love you could arguabley ban inter-faith and inter-racial relationships as they are not *right*.

A persons ability to marry who they love should be a RIGHT not a PRIVILEGE that can be taken away by backwards fear mongers.

  62. 62

thats soooo retarded and sad! why is gay marriage such a big deal anyway? its not like gays are a whole other species, they are human just like straight people and deserve to be treated equally and that includes marriage rights! just coz they're gay doesnt mean they dont have the same amount of love!

  63. 63

Re: Spindoc – You tell 'em! Remember, that which does not kill us only makes us stronger.

  64. 64

Sorry Mario, you and your dog will just have to live in sin. Give that poor dog a bone.

  65. 65

    California's voted…Marriage is between a man and a woman…

  66. 66

How do 2 "GAY" people getting married affect my life????
    Hmmmm, it doesn't…..
People who are bitter only wish to cause sadness to everyone else.

  67. 67

This news took the happiest political day I could remember and sullied all over it! Honestly, I was not prepared for this. It is hard to believe that such horrible discrimination could still exist in this nation. I am not gay, but this news has hit me hard as a caring and compassionate person who only wants everyone to have equal rights. What a sad turn of events!

  68. 68

I am absolutely horrified at this result.
Del and Phyllis (the two women pictured above) had been together for more than 50 years. Del has since passed on. These two women have had a longer relationship than most Americans and yet, it was not until June of 08 that they were legally allowed to marry in their home state of California.
For those of you who say that marriage is a union between a male and a female, why don't you take a look at people like Brit-Brit, and all of the rest of Hollywood who gets married and divorced before the ink is dried. Why is it that those people should be allowed to marry, but people like Del and Phyllis shouldn't be?
Get your heads on straight- it's about love, not about gender.

  69. 69

    I voted NO on H8te!!!!!!!

  70. 70

    I agree with Spindoc's comments.

I was thrilled last night when the election was called for Obama. Thrilled.
That was tempered over the next few hours as I saw Prop. 8 and the other discriminatory laws passing. So very sad and disheartening on what should have been the dawn of a new age for America.

  71. 71

    Re: Nerdy_fat_ugly_girl
Someone needs to twist your nipples really fucking hard, bitch!

  72. 72

Re: Spindoc – You're SO right. Years of slavery, oppression, being denied the right to attend schools and vote is exactly the same thing gays face. An overwhelming majority of blacks voted against this. I don't think they would approve of your comparison.

  73. 73

Re: Princess Bitch – You make it sound like they took 6 year olds to a titty bar. It was a wedding. What are you afraid they saw? Drinking? Gasp! Dancing? NO! What, maybe they KISSED??? ARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH! I think it's weird but not wrong. Hater.

  74. 74

i was so happy about obama's win, but this signifcantly lessens my excitement.. hopefully people can soon realize that EVERYONE IS EQUAL and deserves equal rights

  75. 75

Re: Spindoc – Ugh, you are so full of shit! It was the Mormons (not blacks, Mormons) millions and the evangelicals that lost the vote. Don't be mad because Obama won, and now you're looking for some lame ass excuse to blame black people for anything. You no longer count, no one cares bout you. Go and talk to the Mormons about the BS you're spewing, smartness.

  76. 76

    Re: PIGezHIVton

  78. 78

    Yes On Prop 8!!!!!

  79. 79

    Re: PIGezHIVton

What a stupid thing to say, you are on one of the gayest blogs in the world, twat!

  80. 80

Re: PIGezHIVton – Look, if you have a problem with ONE gay person, that doesn't mean you have to be an ignorant asshole. Besides, you obviously frequent this "homo's" blog and feel it neccessary to insert your opinion where it is not wanted. I hope a really flamboyant gay guy walks up to you and fondles your crotch. HATER !

  81. 81

I'm sorry Perez. I was pulling for you guys out here in Texas.

The fight for equality is not over!

  82. 82

Re: PIGezHIVton – That is so wrong to say…wow. I voted YES on Prop 8 b/c I believe in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. (No, I'm not religious thank you) but to just be a hater…if you hate gays so much why are you reading Perez's blog and EVEN have an account….loser.

  83. 83

Wow, I am really suprised. As a conservative republican, I think it is crazy to keep people from being married to each other. I am even more sad that Arizona? voted to keep gays from adopting. That is so backward and hopefully this will change in the very near future. I voted for McCain because I agree with most of his views, but I think it says alot about how far our country has come in the past 40 years with Obama's win. Keep the faith, Perez.

  84. 84

Good morning fukards. It's a great day in this chocolate factory. Too bad the pink chocolate isn't ready yet. I want it. I want tit now!

  85. 85

I am so angry at the "Americans" who voted yes on Prop 8. It is a sad day when we don't have equality.

  86. 86

Oh Gawd, I hate to be a ditto head, but Spindoc has expressed my thoughts so eloquently. It is difficult to understand how those who have suffered so much discrimination would be in favor of discrimination against others. It is shameful. Churches that engage in politics should loose their tax exempt status.

  87. 87

    THEY CHEATED BIG TIME

  88. 88

The majority have spoken. The PEOPLE of America do NOT want gay's allowed to marry. If you want to marry your same sex partner then move to a country that allows it and stop crying about not have the "right" to marry. You have never had it and I really don't think you will. This also goes out to another cry babies who cry that they don't have something they think they should. MOVE if you don't like. I'm sure places like Mexico are waaaaay better to live a life of FREEDOM

  89. 89

Re: Spindoc – I guess this shows that Black people don't like being equated with people that can choose thier behavior. Being born into a certain race is not a behavior, and I know that there are a lot of people out there that say homosexuals are born into thier sexuality and cannot choose but until you show people proof of that…i don't know what to tell you. It's only one battle in a War but Im glad i had the chance to stand up and vote for what I believe in and what was unfair for 4 judges to overturn.

It is sad that Hispanics are being discrimated against and their families are being torn apart. But this does not include all Hispanics. That is only happening to those families here illegally! That is not MY family, but that is some of my husband's family. And while I sympathize with them and attended the first major rally in Dallas, TX in support of these immagrants. These people in California are American Citizens. Their right to marry should not be decided on Hate!!! The Idiots of this Great Country and ALWAYS looking for someone to hate upon and discriminate against!!

  91. 91

well Im from FL and voted in favor of prop 2. I dont dislike gays and have many gay friends. Gays can do EVERYTHING else that any one else can but get married. what is the big damn deal? Just live together forever, its just like being married. You just don't have the certificate that says your married. I think that is small apples compared to other things that are happening.

  92. 92

Re: Nerdy_fat_ugly_girl – OK, so you all can stay stuck on stupid as much as you want. Becuase trust me, these ignorant monkeys you speak of now control your life, sexy. Don't be sore, be happy. People are finished with people like you, and NOPE we're not taking it anymore. So, please, stay stuck on stupid, its entertaining, and monkey-like. Fun even. Makes me happy seeing your hate jealousy, ignorance, and upset. Awww, need a tissue?

  93. 93

What will happen with Ellen's wedding? Does it become illegal?

  94. 94

Re: PIGezHIVton – Anyone who voted Yes on Prop 8, 102, or 2 is ignorant. I voted no on 2 here in Fl. I'm very sad that the propositions passed in all 3 states. Goes to show you just how many closed-minded individuals there are out there. As for you PIG HIV… you should shut your mouth. You bigots won, no need to be a sore winner and rub it in. I think you're just upset because you contracted HIV when you got fucked in the ass. (Just speculation) Too bad you don't make as much money as Perez by drawing cum on people's mouths… you'd probably get too much pleasure from that fantasy though; and no one would want to read your hate filled blog except to bash you. You are the mistake, not homosexuals.

  95. Fluky says – reply to this

    95

Very, very sad to hear about this Perez. This just breaks my heart that this country can be so closed-minded about this whole thing. I am not gay but I do have gay friends who are dear to me and this is just another example of ignorance in this country. I hope those absentee ballots come in and come in favor of all gay americans because they deserve exactly the same rights as straight americans. All you homophobes can go to hell!!

  96. 96

i voted no in florida :( so sad that it passed

    equality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  97. 97

I think it is sad that so many people are so small minded. I wonder if anyone realizes that in MANY states it was illegal prior to 1967 to have inter-racial marriages. Why? Because there were a lot of ignorant people out there that didn't believe that God agreed with it. As the Dalai Lama once said, " Whether one believes in a religion or not,
and whether one believes in rebirth or not,
there isn't anyone who doesn't appreciate kindness and compassion.
" Why should gays and lesbians be able to marry? Because they do not have the same rights if they can't. They can't file taxes together, they can't share insurance, hell if one of the partners is in the emergency room or ICU technically (and if the staff chooses to enforce it) they can't visit at the bedside. So yeah it's fucked up that you are willing to deny people what is not yours to deny or judge.

  98. 98

How can people still believe these archaic ideas. I was born and raised in California, and am sad to say I now live in WA state, so I voted here. I e-mailed all my Cali friends and requested that they vote to keep hatred out of the state constitution. I do agree with Spindoc, and n hard times such as we are in now, someone is always targeted. It is so sad that as a nation we take a huge step forward, but my home state is propelling the idiotic thinking that got us into this mess in the first place. As happy as I am to be an American right now, I will equally be as Sad to be a Californian should An entire community be discriminated against, for nothing more that what they choose to do in private.

  99. 99

I voted no on my absentee ballot

  100. 100

    I'm totally shocked, I thought this was a no-brainer.
I understand that people may have certain moral or religious disagreements with homosexuality, but let's look at it from a legal/financial/medical standpoint and realize that certain things HAVE to happen.
I thought that this had zero chance of passing……I'm totally floored
