The people in San Francisco are taking a stand against injustice!
The San Francisco City Attorney's office is planning to challenge the validity of Proposition H8TE to ban gay marriage.
A rep for the City Attorney's office says City Attorney Dennis Herrera will file the legal challenge in the California Supreme Court.
In addition, the first lesbian couple to get married in Los Angeles County, after the Supreme Court threw out the gay marriage ban, are also planning to bring a lawsuit against Prop 8.
Let's hope a lot of others plan to do the same.
Something needs to be done!

::It is NOT a civil "rights" issue. Even the bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman, and that men shall not lie with other men. If you want to be with someone, then be with them, but why is the title of "marriage" so important? I don't understand that.::
If you can't understand why a human being would want the same basic human rights everyone else in the country is entitled to, then you have a SERIOUS problem. Why do straight people want to marry? For the same reasons gays do. Believe it or not, they aren't that different. They marry for love, they want to make it official, and they have every right to. As for the Bible, there's a little thing written into our constitution (intentionally, by our forefathers, who also faced persecution and bigotry due to religion) called SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. Lastly, people in the Bible also believed the world was flat, and Jesus himself never said anything about homosexuality being wrong and encouraged loving your neighbors and doing onto them as they would do on to you. Not to mention, I know plenty of religious people who support gays and don't use their religion as a tool for hate, and there are more churches opening every day that allow gays into their congregations. So, you basically have no excuse, you're just a bigot.
You say equality and yet..the biggest religions in the world see being gay as wrong and yet…they get no equality according to your beliefs. I have my right to freedom of religion as well. FYI GOD DOESN"T CREATE GAYS! GOD DOESN"T CREATE GAYS! GOD DOESN"T CREATE GAYS! GOD DOESN"T CREATE GAYS!

I think the issue with the dog and the veggies is that they aren't sapient beings capable of communicating to us their true intentions concerning marriage.

First off let me say that I have no problem with Gay marriages.
I have plenty of friends and family members that are Gay.
I think its horrible what California did, give something that is made out to be so special then to take it away.

I do not support gay marriage but I do believe they deserve something of the sort.
In most every religion, race, country, etc the unity of marriage is between man and women. My unity and the definition of marriage is special to me its between my husband and I. I would be very hurt if the word marriage was used towards gay marriage. I think they need to come up with a new unique word and definition that only gays can use.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have your own wording and definition on something that you hold so very dear to your heart that no other “outsider” can use?
I am in no way trying to be hateful on this subject. I understand how horrible this is and how hurt everyone who didn’t want this to pass feels . I also understand that fighting and being hateful with each other is no way to come together and fight this.
Religion shouldn’t be brought into law making, but at the same time, if the word marriage is used when its been known as one meaning for so long it would be taking something very special away from me and others.
It would be like rewriting history, we cant rewrite history and block out certain things to please us just because we would like to forget the bad things in the past. We shouldn’t be able to redefine the meaning of marriage.
I’m all for equal rights and opportunity.

MARRIAGES as a whole should be abandoned by the state as recognition of a faith-based bonding ceremony. ALL MARRIAGES. Adam/Eve, Adam/Steve, doesn't matter at all. It comes down to civil co-habitation contracts, distribution of responsibilities, compensation, employee benefits…nobody should need the state or fed gov. to tell them their marriage is legal or not. Just define the parameters required for a civil contract.

Marriage is uniquely hetero because it's a man and a woman. Domestic partnership is uniquely gay because it's same-sex. Heteros can't be domestic partners, because that distinction is reserved for same-sex couples to give them rights of spouses.
Attorney General Jerry Brown changed the original title for Prop 8 from "Limit on Marriage" to "Eliminates RIGHT of Same-Sex Couples to Marry." This controversial wording actually was taken to court by the Yes on 8 people, but the Court allowed it to remain. As a result of that misleading wording (as defined in Family Code 297-297.5), support for Prop. 8 dropped 8 points. Anytime you're perceived to be "eliminating someone's rights," that's never popular. Brown tried to dupe Californians with the wording.
Given that the Famly Code sec 297-297.5 outlines the rights of same-sex couples in a domestic partnership as having the rights of spouses in a traditional marriage, I guess I'm not clear on exactly what rights gays would be GAINING by changing the definition of marriage? With Prop 8 passing, they certainly aren't having any rights "eliminated." Is it just for the semantics of being "married?" Well, BINGO. That is the core reason that the majority of California wants it to remain marriage in the traditional sense: because of its traditional meaning. I guess if you "really" want to be married, you'll have to marry someone of the opposite sex.
Quit attacking marriage and leave it alone.

Yes, there needs to be talk and hopefully laws about gay marriage and put into place giving them rights. I believe in that that completely. But I just hate it when people say they don't get the same rights as 'heterosexuals' do. Because, when you break it down, we all have the same rights, and we are all limited just the same.
Let me be completely clear here. I personally do not believe in gay marriage, nor do I think it's a civil rights issue; I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman; the way it was meant with ADAM and EVE. The purpose of marriage was to pro-create, and the last time I checked, that required 2 genitals with opposite plumbing.
But I also believe that if two people of the same sex want to be together, that's no one's business but their own; and it's between them and God. I can't throw stones living in a glass house, and neither should "officials". Like I said, that's between that couple and God.

Someone cannot say that they are comfortable with homosexuality and at the same time condemn gay marriage. They might try to make an argument about the sanctity of marriage and family values, but it is just simply a cover for their homophobia. Proposition 8, and all of the anti-gay marriage referendums are about maintaining that gays do not deserve the same rights as other people. This is the same as saying that the world would be a better place if homosexuality did not exist. Will America be the last advanced nation to accept gay marriage and offer the same rights to gay people as to others? This is inevitable at some point as the dialogue has already been open, I am confident of that. Resistance only makes the movement stronger- one in ten people, think about it.
So regardless of what the majority of Californians say it doesn't matter right fatso. THE MAJORITY VOTED AGAINST IT. That is what this country is built on. Majority rules. Go home. Get over it. Go away. Marriage is between a man and a woman

First off, there is supposed to be separation between church and state. And second, The Bible is not a law book in the USA. The United States is supposed to be a land of freedom where people of many faiths are welcome to come and worship freely. The bible may be your laws for Christians, but it is not the final word (nor should it have any say) in United States laws.

Blacks dealt with years and years of oppression/segregation etc. Gay people were persecuted in the Holocaust and continue to be shunned and harrassed just because they fall in love with someone of the same sex. As to the defense "they're born that way". Well, I was "born that way" (gay). I CHOOSE to be straight in honor and respect of my Christian God. Do I suffer, of course I do at times. That's life. I have a wonderful husband and beautiful son and I couldn't ask for more. Do I still think about women? Absolutely. But I know that road is against my beliefs and morals.

Your comparisons are pitiful. You're saying you can't call green blue, yet you're telling gay people to come up with a term for green, but don't call it green.
I consider myself a Christian but I don't see why it's my business if two adults want to get married. If the government can't impose a religion on people and allows them to practice their beliefs, why is this any different? Gay people aren't hurting me and I'm not sure what people are so afraid of? I continue to read my bible and I know it has some powerful messages of love but I also know that it's been used to perpetuate slavery, sexism, and racism. Granted, I can't agree with everything many supporters say…I think being gay is a choice. However, if I have the choice to marry any man I want, of any color (also once illegal), I don't see how this is any different.
