MORE on Grey's Anatomy's Latest Gay "Scandal"!

| Filed under: TV NewsGay Gay GayLGBT

As we mentioned earlier, Grey's Anatomy is getting rid of one of the two gay characters they have on the show.

Actress Brooke Smith, who plays Dr. Erica Hahn as the girlfriend of Dr. Callie Torres, will no longer be on the ABC program

Smith's last episode will be this Thursday.

Talk about a quick removal!!!

And, her character wasn't even written out properly or given any closure. She just walks to her car in this next episode and is never seen again.

And, according to reports, "Those who work on the ABC series [say] that the gay-themed storylines and gay characters are being downplayed and even erased from upcoming scripts."

Apparently the choice wasn't that of the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, but that of the execs high up at ABC.

In a statement, Rhimes says:

“Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show – Calliope Torres. Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with ‘another lesbian.’ If you'll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season."

So until the real reason for the firing gets leaked, why do U think they got rid of gay character Dr. Hahn?

she's just not cute enough! It looked weird…and no one wants to imagine her doing anything with a girl or a guy! Sorry but true!

Re: ChocJane – It's just you, and what I find depressing is you calling me a stupid moronic cunt, saying that I'm stupid and I don't make sense. Well, I just re-read what I wrote, and it makes perfect sense to anyone that can understand it…sounds like you're the mentally challenged one. You don't have to agree with me. My point stands, you cursing at me won't change a damn thing.
And fukk you for coming out of your nasty ass face trying to play my opinion. I hope prop 8 passes just because of you and your nasty filthy mouth.

Her character wasn't interesting or likable. Christina isn't likable sometimes, but she's still interesting.
Whether the lesbian topic was an issue or not I don't believe she really contributed to the show in a good way, other than a filler of time.

Well, I think it sucks!!! Getting rid of one gay character and saying that there's one left but we won't see her in a relationship any time soon. She's a "lesbian" in name only. Great!!! This is so stupid. Just when I think we're making history by electing Obama president, we take 10 steps back w/ this decision. WTG, ABC!!!! ARGH!!!

    How can they fire her?
I really liked those characters and their relationship… this is so damn stupid.
I bet its just because their lesbians.

She was boring and they were a bad couple. I've watched this show religously and I never liked her character or as an actress. Just not what makes Grey's Anatomy so great. And if you want to talk about networks cutting out shows with gays.. give some more light to what THE-N has done on cancelling "South of Nowhere". This show is one of the best I have seen and it has changed my view on gays and gay marriage. I enjoy it and cannot believe they are removing it because it has changed many people - SAVE SPASHLEY

Because Prop 8 passed. They are hedging their bets.

Listen, I'm not a lesbian, and I'm sure I'm setting myself up for criticism/ridicule, but do you want the issue to be FORCED to make a point? I have had my fair share of girl crushes and bi-experiences, but they were nothing as awkward and contrived as the relationship between Calli & Erica. While I think it's vital to portray a realistic perspective of the interworkings of any large group of people (which usually involves relationships of ALL types), I think it is more important to be accurate and realistic. Let's hope they give Cali a REAL relationship, whatever it may be…

I know why Brooke Smith was fired. Someone found out she voted for John McCain.

This homophobia is disgraceful, yet expected. Please go to ABC.com and hit the CONTACT US link to tell them exactly what you think. Thanks to this wimpy move, lesbians now have ZERO visibility on prime time TV which has over 600 characters. If gay people are 10% of the population (as are African Americans) this is so sad considering we jumped a major hurdle for equality electing our first African American president —but are still proving that gays are the last group of people you don't even have to tolerate.
