Prop 8 Too Close To Call

It's looking like Prop 8 will pass.
We feel like crying!

NO TO H8.
first?
perez:( im so scared they will win:( sooo scared.
no on 8
im cdn adn i say no!
I hope and pray that it goes No on Prop 8
Good Luck Cali…..No to Prop H8te
No, Perez…give it up…It has passed…
no to prob h8!
America has just elected a Subversionist…
It won't be long now…
Go to YouTube and see what I am saying…
Yuri Bezmenov Explains Soviet Strategy for Subversion 1 of 9
It is too bad President Elect
Obama is against gay marriage.
So is Vice President Elect Biden.
.
I think what people do in
personal relationships
is their own business.
I wish Obama felt the same way.
Even if the proponets of this prop do succeed, they still have a LOOOONG road ahead of them. If it does pass, it does NOT immediately become a law. I know that the opponents of prop 8 will fight it til the end. This is not going to go away so easily.
"Brother's gonna work it out" = XXO Barack Obama!
Geez.
I want to know already!
I hope if fails, even if it's by a tiny margin.
unbelievable… I hoped for a major difference, somewhere in the range of 90 against 10 % (on NO of course).
Sincerely, don't take this as hate. Marriage was not created for two people of the same sex but rather for a couple to procreate. Gay people are loved by many, me included. Try for a "Civil Union" next time. Call it whatever you like…"Civil Marriage" maybe.
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Come OUT!!! Gay Marriage will happen! and it would be a lot easier if everyone gay CAME OUT already and the homophobes got over their shit
It will be a national embarrassment if this passes in such a prominent state. What has become of California? Maybe this is the latent result of Prop 13 passing so long ago. Lose education, and you get a backward, frightening populace. Soon marriage will be protected as an institution for pregnant teen couples named Susie Lynn and Bubba instead of committed people who have chosen to spend their lives together. Way to ensure dignity, or to onlookers, shame. Your marriage is a sham and a joke if you need to disenfranchise others to justify its integrity.
Well President Hussein Obama doesn't even want this to pass!
Off to Wasilla!
I am a woman, i dated women… now married to a man with children, believe that no matter what sex..color…race.. marriage rights needs to be all.. how can you condone a 'gay couple', say that has been together for 20, 30 years, and the one partner, who has been blessed by both parents, suddenly becomes sick or is injured in a car accident, ie.. the right to have their loved ones the right to be the spouse's?
keep the faith perez!! we must stay positive!
tellin ya what i know- why is it necessary to distinguish between "civil union" "civil marriage" etc. remember when it was SEPARATE BUT EQUAL? that was thankfully, overturned by brown v. board.
calling "it" being LOVE between TWO HUMAN BEINGS by different names conjures up the same backward ideology of "separate but equal".
NO TO PROP 8.
i am ashamed of the ppl who are for writing discrimination into the law.
SHAME on them!!!
CC
WTF happened California?
i was for no on 8 but i don't live in Cali.
still…
i don't see what's wrong with not calling it marriage. if someone gave me one thousand dollars, and wanted me to call it 10 hundred i'd be fine.
just buy your partner a ring. some people just feel it is a choice. you can't change skin tone or gender (don't tell me), but u can kiss anyone u want.
Due to the huge number of influential Californians donating both time and ridiculous sums of money to prevent the passage of "Prop H8te," I'm surprised that the vote not more one-sided. It'll be exciting to see how that all pans out!
hmph… i was so happy this morning with obama.. but now? not so much…
i live in florida and the same thing happened here. Ellen degeneres among others who have married are going to be devestated.:(
All marriage is cheapened if this is needed to validate it. If your are married and voted for this, you have disgraced your union.
Re: tellin ya what I know –
I'm sorry, but this is ignorant. That sounds like an awful lot like having separate bathrooms for whites and blacks. What are you really so fucking afraid of? That the gays will sully the "sacred" act of marriage? What's the divorce rate these days anyway?
It's all symantics….marriage, civil union….denying a group of people rights is fucking WRONG. There is no other way around it.
NO TO H8. I'm so upset. This prop shouldn't even be on the ballot. WE HAVE THE RIGHT!
Prop 102 is looking very bad right now also :[
My heart is sore.
People are ridiculous. How is it that it's going to pass?!
VOTE FOR LOVE! NO ON 8!
Re: tellin ya what I know – Totally agree with you
I really thought it wouldnt go through. I dont know what to say. Thats awful.
ellen should be fine. she is already married.
in response to "tellin ya what I know". do you even know the difference between marriage and a "civil union"?? look it up. it doesn't give homosexual couples the same rights as heterosexual couples who can get married. as as for marriage being created to procreate?? so infertile and old couples can't get married too …right? since they can't have babies….makes perfect sense.
Scared people!
I voted no.
Perez my love even if it doesnt pass it will happen eventually. Look at what America has done, we've elected an African-American president. There IS hope. Don't worry because we'll eventually get there even if it's not today. Equality for everyone is right.
Thank you for letting us vote - enjoy civil unions - and thank you as this will set the stage to FOREVER BAN GAY MARRIAGE - no more - no more suing and complaining - ITS OVER!!!!!! Go fuck each other up the ass all you want - IT"S NOT MARRIAGE!!!!
I hope people made the right choice and put NO ON PROP 8!!!! Everyone deserves to marry whoever they want whether if it's a boy or girl cuz you can't help who you love and you should be able to marry that person if you want!!!!
Are you kidding me?!
I can't believe people can be so insensitive and vote "yes" on this measure.
People should be able to marry ANYONE.
You can't choose who you have feelings for–girl or guy.
Seriously.
I can't believe this is even an issue of debate.
As Perez said, equality is a right, not a priviledge.
Everyone is obligated to receive the same fair treatment.
Denying a person marriage is anything BUT fair.
Ugh, I can't believe this is even happening.
What's happened to Americans?!?!?!
Voting "yes" on this proposition is just so… unethical!
I wish I could vote… maybe then this nightmare wouldn't be unfolding.
I guess that whole using unelected judges to overturn the will of the people(who have already voted on this once) didn't quite come off the way you had all hoped? That's okay. You can just keep trying to make end runs around the legal process just like you always do.
What in the hell is wrong with this country? Why is it so hard to accept same sex couples to be together as a married couple? It didn't pass in Connecticut, but you'd like California would be different! I am sorely disappointed in the outcome. I don't live in the state but I used to and as a hag, I am hurt by this. Yes, we elected our first black (or bi-racial) president but yet a gay couple is what's offensive?
The constitution of the United States is supposed to ensure EVERYONE has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…like marriage to a loved one. These laws will be struck down eventually but, just like it took 4 decades to reach enough racial equality to elect a person of color to the presidency, our country seems to need a bit more time to become enlightened. I cast my vote against a similar proposition here in Florida, but I also apologize for all of my fellow straight people who are still wearing blinders when it comes to the justice of equality. I hope it will not be too, too long before the LGBT community is no longer discriminated against.
this is not about seperate but equal……
please leave that alone. people change sexuality like they change hair color…i.e. LOHAN
It's just marriage. If you want more rights for civil unions then fight for that. Transgendereds aren't pushing to use both restrooms…’cause it doesn't matter!!! You can pee anywhere, and you can sleep with 80 people without EVER marrying them.
how in ANY WAY is a civil union the same rights?!
married, single, widowed, divorced.
this is so sad, i really hoped this wouldn't happen. this closes the doors all over the country.
lol, talk about OWNED
Re: matil – and the marriage would no longer be recognised if they revoked gays rights to be married, so yes it would effect her. Besides, I don't think people are just upset about Ellen right now.
UGH! this is making me SEVERELY disappointed in california. WTH?! i hate to sit back and see my best friend in the world cry for the first time in front of me because he feels like a second rate citizen. it makes me sick.
who are these people to tell someone who they can and can't love and deny them the RIGHT [yes, RIGHT not opportunity] to get married and be equal?
if this passes, this election year is bittersweet.
YAY for OBAMA.
serious epic fail for the passing of prop h8!
Why can't people understand that separate but equal is impossible and unconstitutional?! I am so disappointed in the people of California who are helping Prop 8 pass. This is a sad day in California.
Sure putting a blanket ban on something is easier than dealing with lots of messy issues that come up when new legislature is introduced.
But the easy way does not mean it's the right way.
Re: tellin ya what I know –
its about equality! equal rights! if that was the case then we should all have civil unions and civil "marriages" so why dont you STFU
I sincerely hope Prop H8te is not passed, I definitely voted NO! I will not get married until all people in my state can. And if I ever do get married, I want Perez to be a bridesmaid
CNN says it will be defeated. The votes right now are showing only the conservative precincts. Can you do abit of research before you post a blog!?! you're misinforming the public. Gay marriage will not be bannedin california.
Re: tellin ya what I know –
Marriage is a civil contract. If you are going to ban civil contracts between two same-sex adults…good luck conducting business.
Seriously? That's actually outrageous.
Come live in Canada, we love you.
Keep the faith! As of right now there are over 12,000 precincts that have not been included in the numbers. There is still hope. No on 8!
damn it california!!
I live in the deep south and I was hoping for this bill to pass. If California doesn't pass it, what hope is there for the rest of us?
:( how sad. come live in MA!
If this passes it will set us back decades!
Stop the h8te!
NO ON 8!
Why is this even on a ballot to vote on to begin with????????
Equal rights for all!!!! Don't worry though….Gays are the new Blacks, and look what happened tonight! It's a new dawn, It's a new day. Things are changing. If you want to get married, do it, and if the court tries to stop you, don't take NO for an answer. If you point a gun in someone's face, they will give you the certificate. It's time for a revolution. Stand up for your rights as a human being!!! WHO THE FUCK HAS THE RIGHT TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CANNOT GET MARRIED????? THIS IS ABSOLUTELY PREPOSTEROUS!
Sad here too..I voted no on it. I just hate when they say it's got no historical context, when every student of basic ancient Roman history knows that same sex marriage was considered a logical right. I know, catamites were legal too, but still.
What a shame. Obama's victory today has given us so much hope for our nation, but this news makes this day bittersweet. To amend the California constitution specifically to deny the civil rights of a group of people is obviously a backwards step for freedom and equality. So wrong.
No Perez, you should not be saying "It looks like Prop 8 will Pass!! It's not over yet, they have not counted our votes here in San Francisco or Alameda (Oakland) county OR Los Angeles. Smaller counties are reported first, they are smaller and have less votes to count.
Hope is still very much alive!!
Prop H8te is going Down… Fo Sho!
We Shall Overcome
We Shall Overcome
We Shall Overcome, Someday
Oh Deep In My Heart
I Do Believe
That We Shall Overcome Someday
so sad. I voted no on H8. I really thought that there would be more No votes since this is CA.
what is wrong with people?!
Re: obama-shirts.spreadshirt.com – i hope you're right. but % of precincts keeps going up while the vote % stays around 53-47.
this is devastating. how can people vote yes? atleast we have Obama as our president now… no on 8 would have been icing on the cake.
I wish that all GAYS would move out of California and take thier $. That would show them what we bring to the state. We pay our taxes, we spend our money, we work and live here and yet this happens to us. WE SHOULD MOVE. If this happened they would beg us to come home.
you pandered the nigs to go out and vote for Hussein Obama, now did you really think they were going to support you queers? LOL - DUMB-ASS!
i'm probably going to cry. i can't understand why people can't accept people of different sexualities. Honestly guys, WHO CARES?!?! How is it effecting you? Why can't we just allow this marriage? It makes me so sad.. NO TO PROP H8.
i couldn't agree more. i view those that supported 8 are selfish and forger that their votes are determining the future for someone other than themselves, it just isn't fair.
Re: StCloud – you stupid sack of shit! They have counted votes in those counties, go check out results from CNN, precincts from all counties are included! LOL - PROP 8 WILL PASS! The meaning of my marriage will not be trivialized by a bunch of whiny sissies!
i'm staying awake just cuz i have a little bit of hope..and lm89, i think you meant you didn't want it to pass..but it's cool you don't live in CA so you werem't surrounded by this 24/7
What bothers me as I read through some of the comments are how ignorant people really are. What it comes down to is equal rights for everyone. What makes someone less worthy of a true commitment valued by the state? Who cares if it's between a man and a woman, a man and a man, or a woman and a woman?! For the comments that state that people change sexuality like they change hair color, that is ignorance. For them to say that equal rights shouldn't exist because of that I ask you to contemplate how many people out there get married on whims… Think of the divorce rates… How are those unions more important. In many ways it's almost as though people are saying that love cannot exist. WHO ARE WE TO TELL PEOPLE WHO TO LOVE?
People need to grow up. This country should stand up for the rights of it's citizens. By amending the CA constitution, they are taking away a right that SHOULD exist. The right to LOVE who you choose and the right for it to be legally recognized.
I voted NO on 8… and I will be upset when it passes. It's wrong… Plain and simple… Discrimination is wrong.
"Whether you like it or not" …. Gavin Newsom eat your words!!!!!
omg…this can't happen…
everyone deserves to be treated with equality…
i wish people would stop being so fucking ignorant
I can't believe that! It's fucking 2008 people! I can't believe that this is even an issue at this time. I'm soooo disappointed at hearing this.
The constitution of the United States is supposed to ensure EVERYONE has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…like marriage to a loved one.Re: missrebecca –
Uh…that would be the Declaration of Independence not the Constitution that say that. Were you educated in liberal California government indoctrination schools that you don't know that? I bet you know all about reality TV though, huh?
Re: MELiCiOUS! – It's because the more rural precincts count votes faster. The towns are smaller and its easier to count. In LA it's crazy right now and it's taking forever for them to count. There will be thousands of votes in LA and Sacramento and SF that will counter them.
CHECK CNN: cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/04/state.laws/index.html
Perez don't cry!! I love you and Prop 8 won't pass!! I PROMISE!
HOORAH!!!!!!!!
YES ON 8!
that's so sad. i hope it doesn't. just because you're gay doesn't mean that you shouldn't be treated like anyone else…THIS IS CRAP!!!!
This makes me sick!!!!!!! I am a Republican who so believes in gay marriage!!!!! How could you vote NO?????? California????? You are suppossed to be so much far ahead of the times! I feel like we are back in the 50's!!! Get with it!!!! So sorry Perez ! Not everyone in Oklahoma listens to HATE! Actually MOST of us do not!!!!
Everyone who voted yes on Prop 8 is an asshole! Get over yourself!
Re: Mohit_ – same here, and it's almost 3:30 am.
yes we voted for a black man to be president…but how is that connected to gay marriage?…california already voted on this..and just because no on 8 was louder doesn't mean everyone supports it.its not hate its an opinion…thats why we live in America…to vote and have opinions…just because they differ from yours doesn't make it wrong…
That's so depressing, please don't let it pass.
Don't cry perez!
This fucked up shit goes back to the damn religious homephobs. They think gay marriage is bad but they don't think its bad to intrude and corrupt peoples decisions and RIGHTS. Just because THEIR religion doesn't permit THEM doesn't mean the rest of you all have to follow. Just because THEY believe in something doesn't mean we all have to believe in it too. I am not a gay person but I have a best friend who is gay. Luckly here where I live there isn't any gay bashers. We treat them equally.
CHECK CNN: cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/04/state.laws/index.htm
Check the top, it says NEW: California's Proposition 8 on same-sex marriages headed for defeat, exit polls say
CNN's exit polls have been right so far .. it is taking longer to count the votes in the big cities and the small cities are coming in faster. And the big cities is where all the NO ON HATE activists live.
I'M TELLING YOU IT DID NOT PASS. CALIFORNIANS ARE NOT THAT CRUEL.
Re: PunkyBrewstein – you need more education…
its so sad to think in the same day this country and state takes 10 steps forward towards equality for all then 30 backwards to return to the days of discrimination and hate! but just as all other minorities didnt give up neither will we till we get our birthright of equality!!!!!
NO ON PROP H8!
FYI for the argument that gay marriage being allowed will get the churches sued– you can't sue the church because of the first amendment. duh.
I only wish I could have voted in California against prop 8. I hope Ellen gives them HELL if it passes.
Re: obama-shirts.spreadshirt.com – i guess we just have to wait. so far big cities are leaning more toward yes, but there are only about half of the precincts represented so it's hard to tell. sacramento is a big YES.
this is so sad…how could they let this happen! Come on California!!!
Re: TylerDurden – Yes it is time for a Revolution. I couldn't agree more with ya.
bummer your "inspiring president-elect" wants prop 8 to pass!
is it just me, or does anyone else think that black people belong in cages?
PunkyBrewstein, I have already forgiven you for your ignorance, fool!! You and the closed minded hateful people like you are being shut down and pushed aside. Ha!!!
nooo it's not fair!
No to h8!!!
