Statement by No on Prop 8 Campaign on Election Status

"Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.
Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.
Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.
It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.
As of this point, the election is too close to call.
Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

oh, pretty please!!!!!!!
Adrianne Curry is saying religous people are NAZIS!!!!
What a fucking CUNT!!!!!
This isn't surprising and to ensure that the democratic process was seen out in full, the No side should do the due diligence required to make sure that the voting results are, in fact, accurate. If they are accurate, then let it die for 4 years and introduce another proposition on the next ballot. Don't go back to the supreme court. By going to the supreme court, you're saying, "Well, we heard the voice of the people of California and because we don't agree with them, we're going to circumvent the democratic process and pretend that their voices don't count". Accept defeat with dignity and move on from there.
This applies to the Yes side, as well. If there's a recount and it's found that No did, in fact, win, then go about it the same way. Let's respect the democratic process.
Good luck California from Mass.
Too close to call. I think it passed. But, I'm open to CHANGE! I'll keep my fingers crossed. Good luck California!! Yes on EQUALITY! No on h8.
I will pray that the provisional and absentee ballots will be votes for equality and not injustice. No to Hate, No on 8.
Re: TorontoMike – Very good points.
ALL THE GAY PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE ONE BIG WEDDING TOGETHER AT THE WHITE HOUSE
There's still hope thank God! The times are a changing and for the better…End all discrimination
They're just trying to placate you–for right now.

CAN WE HELP LEGALIZE MARY JANE'S RIGHTS NEXT PLZ
yes Prop 8 one good news today
Good Luck California and God loves EVERYONE not just a selected few that bow down to the religous hate filled idiots that think that thier way is the right and only way. Don't give up the fight, it is worth fighting for.
Sorry everyone.
I'm from San Diego and I voted NO on 8.
There have been Yes on 8 people on every street corner for weeks… guess we just couldn't stop the hate.
Again, I'm so sorry on behalf of California.
I'd already read somewhere that it was a done deal-the ban on marriage other than by a heterosexual couple. Bad day for America, Land of the Free…
Re: Occupent – well said…
my fingers are crossed.
Re: JillianMillion85 – if it passes…..obama will fix it and shut all of the H O M O S up!!
Spread the love F A G G O T S !!!
I was thrilled to see Obama win. However, my elation was shortlived. California, how could you? We are the progressive state, liberal, open-minded. If your definition of marriage is one thing, that's fine, don't deny other people their rights. Gays are not second-class citizens. We have not come far at all from the days where blacks and whites couldn't get married. How is this Ok? Marriage means two people who love each other unconditionally and want to share that love with their friends and family and want to be recognized as a couple by the law. MY definition has nothing to do with God and the Bible. If yours does, then great. But since I am not baptized, I am not recognized in the bible, does that mean I can't get married? NO. This proposition was over- turned 8 years ago and hopefully, it will happen again. I just don't understand how people can hate and think it is OK. This is discrimination no matter what supporters say. You get spoiled living near San Francisco, with all the acceptance and love.
I'm sick to my stomach over this.
Please let all of those absentee ballots be from San Fracisco and West hollywood.
Re: TorontoMike – you said ""Don't go back to the supreme court. So I suppose that when the Supreme court said that "Separate schools for blacks were not constitutional, that blacks should not have filed that case? I suppose instead that they should have waited for voters in Mississippi and Alabama to give them their equality…
In the height of irony, it was the groundswell of support for Obama that sank Prop. 8. Only one demographic group voted heavily in favor of Prop. 8–African Americans. That's why the polls didn't see this coming–it didn't account for the disproportionate turnout of African Americans.
Sorry losers, the remaining votes come from areas that were pro 8 anyway. Suuuuucck it.
Re: Spindoc – Also good points.
70% of black people in california voted yes on prop 8.
on the day when there was a large voter turnout among black people…obama was elected and gay marriage in california, florida, and arizona was banned. in large part due to the large black votes. in all three state, the white votes accounted to striking down the ban, whereas the black vote acccounted to upholding the ban on gay marraige. no that is ironic.
america still has a long way to go.
Re: Spindoc – No, but a civil rights comparison isn't analogous at all. We're not talking about segregation in schools, public transit, and housing. We're not talking about people being denied the franchise or being denied affordable housing and job opportunities. Let's face it. All of those were more pressing issues than gay marriage. Those were quality of life issues.
My point is that this went to the supreme court and Proposition 22, something voted on by the people of Californiaonly 8 years previously, was repealed. The issue went back to the voters and again, it was passed just like Prop. 22 was. Going back to the supreme court seems like a very back door way of getting this to go forth. Yes, it might take longer by going to the popular vote, but that's the most effective way for a ruling like this to stand.
LMAO yes on 8
get over it it's been official!
Here we go again…can we day FLORIDA!
well atleast Obama won?…………..=[ thats so wrong no prop 8 u bastards Obama better change that
I hope all this fag shit gets totally abolished. Disgusting fudgepackin men and crotch licking women! You need a pyschiatrist!!!! Youre causing the damnation of America along with your fuckin idiot leader NOBAMA!
why is obama on there? he doesnt support gay marriage…
so bad that abama won thats fuck up. but its good yes 8
Re: ****MRS.JOSH*HOLLOWAY @>—–^—– – Massachusetts did. Weed is now legal (up to an ounce) and gay marriage has been legal for years. Everyone get here! No hate here (except for the ignorant south…)
still hope!
Hmmm funny that Republicans aren't going to have a rally and block off the streets because Obama only won 52% of the popular vote…yet when Prop 8 Passes with 52% of the vote the democratic system is flawed?
I have a great idea for homosexuals…use the civil unions that GRANT ALL THE SAME CIVIL RIGHTS AS MARRIAGE…and start your own damn church that will marry you! As far as I am concerned, my marriage being recognized by the state of California doesn't mean shit! I only want my religion and God to recognize my marriage because in all reality, the government is nothing but a necessary evil…and it seems with Obama's election that evil will become more and more a part of our lives.
BULLSHIT!!! I and many of the people I know vote absentee due to travel for work, I have always voted absenteee — my vote had better be counted
This site is so flaming gay, if you are a male, and posting comments here, you are either a flaming fag or a troll. Real straight men don't do Perez, unless they are afraid to fling open the closet door. Come out boys, get lost trolls.
First off, Obama can't vote for 8, and he is against gay marriage, so I don't know where they got that putting him in that ad. Also, I truly wonder how Ahnuld voted about this. He vetoed gay marriage before now he's all for it? Probably his stupid, liberal wife told him to vote that way, but when he got in the booth his balls descended again and he voted the way he wanted to.
You need to get back to what your good at and STOP with all the Political Bull Shit.
Re: TorontoMike – Yeah, lets spend more CA taxpayers money to recount. Didn't you fucking know that CA is in major debt as it is? People, get the fuck over it. It's done! I have to deal with the fact that Obama will be our next president, so STFU and deal with it that CA voters voted YES on 8!
Since when is Obama for gay marriage??? He never has been in his whole record neither has Biden.
can't we just enjoy a celebrity gossip site without politics? stop showing your ignorance by talking politics…get back to the celebrity dirt!
somewhat amusing considering that interracial marriage was banned up until about 60 years ago. People also justified this ban with the Bible. How many people would this effect today if it were still in effect?
Why don't you take your tax dollars and move away? Massachusetts allows for gay marriage. Move there. I have learned the hard way that peaceful protests mean very little in the age where the God Money is worshipped. When a very large and significant tax based leaves change will happen.
Democracy ruled in this case. The people of California spoke and decided what they wanted for their community. Going the route of the courts won't change anything because they will just referendum again, so you use another form of Democracy and that is the very Democratic and effective: Invisible Hand of the Marketplace.
If your right to marriage is more important than your need to suntan and warm weather, move. Prove you are not shallow and get your asses up and show Californians that if they don't respect you, then they don't want you, and if they don't want you, then they aren't gonna get your money either.
Re: Spindoc – i know of 5 absentee ballots (me and some friends) that were all no on 8.
they better count our votes!!!
i dont understand how they can say it has passed when they have 4 million votes not counted.
Re: katiejsays – My sentiments exactly!!! I'm from the IE and there were Yes groups on every corner. These people were all MORMONS!!! The majority of the yes on 8 money came from Utah from the MORMON church. These people are from a highly organized CULT! They work in shifts and ensured coverage at all times. I'm sure you've noticed that all of their signs are now taken down. They are an efficient group. The yes campaign had 100,000 volunteers and the no campaign had only 10,000. These hypocrites once believed in polygamy and black people couldn't hold the priesthood. Not to mention they themselves were persecuted and fled the midwest for their beliefs. There is so much wrong with this on so many levels. Blame the MORMONS and the uninformed for allowing this to happen. Remember they're a CULT, they are experts in BRAINWASHING…. I seriously can't believe that California allowed Utah to tell them what to do!!!
Let's hope that when all is said and done, prop 8 goes down in defeat! It is ridiculous to politicize marriage (whatever happened to that whole separation of church & state?). I am also amazed that these "ban on gay marriage" ballot measures passed but all the ones relating to limiting abortions did not. I'm not sure what that says about people. I'm all for pro-choice, but I sure as heck would rather a woman NOT have an abortion. I heard the silliest argument for banning gay marriage today…children in a family should have a mother & a father. How about all those raised by single parents? Should we start taking them away from their parent because there's only one of them? I fear that's the kind of thing that could come next. Sad that there are so many close-minded people in this country.
Re: Jessicatt – Actually NOT A PENNY came from the mormon church's organization, rather the members of its church here in California. Obviously the mormon church leaders urged them to sustain and uphold their moral values…so let's hate on them because they actually have a backbone? whether you agree with them or not you have to admire their willingness to defend what they believe in…just as you admire civil rights activists that don't conform to what others might believe, the mormons are admirable in that they do what they believe despite constant ridicule… i mean hell it was LEGAL to kill a mormon in some states up until the mid 70's
