"Freedom to Marry is the gay and non-gay partnership working to win marriage equality nationwide. Headed by Evan Wolfson, one of America's leading civil rights advocates and lawyers, Freedom to Marry brings new resources and a renewed context of urgency and opportunity to this social justice movement. Freedom to Marry brings the work of its partner organizations and their many approaches — litigation, legislation, direct action, and public education — into a larger whole, a shared civil rights campaign that fosters heightened outreach to non-gay allies.

Freedom to Marry encourages dialogue with Americans thinking through the need to end discrimination in marriage, provides support to targeted state and local efforts, and promotes fairness for all families, including same-sex couples and the children raised by gay parents. By working to secure equal access to marriage, we help reinforce our country's historic commitment to freedom, the pursuit of happiness, and equal justice for all.

As we advance toward full marriage equality, we promote gains along the way for all families, including same-sex couples and the children raised by gay parents. By working to end the exclusion of same-sex couples and their families from marriage, we help reinforce our country's historic commitment to freedom of religion and the separation of church and state. By ending sex discrimination in marriage, much as we ended race discrimination in marriage a generation ago, we are building a better America, protecting and supporting families, children, and the freedom of choice for all.

Freedom to Marry enhances progress toward marriage equality by filling four principal roles:

Strategy and Support Center for our local and state partners;
Catalyst that drives and influences the national debate on the freedom to marry;
Partnership and Alliance-Builder enlisting local, regional, and national non-gay allies and non-gay public support; and
Regrantor and Engine of Funding to augment local, state and national freedom to marry efforts, while advising funders and assisting local organizations' stimulation of their own funding.
Freedom to Marry works closely with every organization — gay and non-gay, national and local — taking part in this effort to end discrimination in marriage. Freedom to Marry has a talented and diverse staff and a Steering Committee that includes non-gay allies, civil rights activists, and experts.

Freedom to Marry has already begun implementing a focused, ambitious work-plan with our non-gay and gay partners, assisting in mounting multi-year strategic campaigns in several states as well as nationally. Once our goal of justice is achieved, this organization will cease operations."

    Will do.

I have a question. Why did gay people support Obama and not McCain. Both were against the right for gay people to marry?

Why did Ellen agressively ask McCain on her show and nail him about his position on gay marriage? and not do that to Obama?

    Just asking…

Re: PIGezHIVton – gays are not pedophilles.pedophillia is a perversion between an adult and a child.its a non-consensual sex.its a rape. Gay sex its a consensual sex between adults of the same sex.and its not a crime under our law.Pedophlia is a crime under our law. so stop being dumb and go kill yourself.and i cant stand this haters saying that gays are equl to pedophilles.thats vile, ignorant, stupid and used by people who uses fear as a tactic to spread ignorance

Gay people are NOT a race there is not a injustice being done at ALL. Marriage is a title given to people who can procreate, no matter how many times you stick your dick in men perez you will NOT EVER have this ability.

Its too late to complain now, people were given a chance to vote against Prop 8 on Tuesday and they obviously made their choices. A protest won’t change anything. Its obvious that people were lying when they first said that they were against Prop 8 cause they were ashamed of admitting that they did have an issue with gay marriage. Thats the source of the problem. Not the voting system itself, since you had the chance to reject it and you didn’t therefore everything was completely legal and fair. Its the PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA themselves. You’ve only got yourselves to blame. If a protest can change voting outcomes, wouldn’t McCain supporters (all 53 million of them) have already stormed the streets by now? You gotta be reasonable. Perhaps the absentee votes can help but technically there isn’t much else that can be done until all the votes have been counted. And aren’t Obama/Biden against gay marriage to begin with? I remember Biden specifically stating his debates that they are against this issue on a 'national' level and would prefer 'states to decide for themselves. Its just beautiful lingo for "I'll say anything you want to hear but don't pull me into troubled waters!". Aren't you guys just contradicting yourselves by electing Obama/Biden then? You're all pushing for too much too soon.
P.S I am not for Prop 8 myself, some of my best friends are gay. I'm just trying to be fair that's all.

No to Prop 8 just means more divorces for this sorry country. No one stays married forever anyway.

  13. 13

Verrry bizaare that "PIGez" spends all of his time on Perez's website and has gone so far as to register with the site. I mean, if I was that intolerant and that much of a loser homophobe, I probably wouldn't be on this site all the time making comments. Closet homosexual perhaps.

  14. 14

I guess the will of the people is only good if it agrees with your agenda. Respect the voters and do NOT circumvent this using the courts.

  15. 15

I didn't know there were gay people in space…I'm not giving money to this douche

  16. 16

Re: PIGezHIVton – Whatever you like to tell yourself. Go spread your hate elsewhere you idiot.

    Re: Julianne
She just an attention whore, That's why her icon is what it is and why she keeps commenting over and over again. We just need to ignore the lame-ass. Chances are she is just a bored housewife trying to be edgy and offensive.

  18. 18

This is a travesty. Most of these comments are those of people gloating and basking in a sickening fervor for the suppression of GLBT rights. You did it guys!!! You won! You are asking US to bow out gratefully? You are asking US to just "move along with life and accept the decision?" Would you? From what I have read of all this religious zealotry and plain old nastiness, you can't just leave it at "wining" but have to really sit there and rub salt into the very serious wounds of people who have just been told they do not have equal rights. Why don't you all JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE??? Let them grieve. Let them be in peace. Don't pour this disgusting display of hatred on top of this overwhelming sadness. You are KICKING A DOG THAT IS DOWN. SHAME ON YOU. And by the way, this is NOT over yet. I vow that I will see equality spread to those people. If something doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger. GLBT, I love you all. Please don't listen to these words. Your sexual preference is no different then the color of your eyes, and yes it most likely is genetic. You are normal people who deserve a lot more then what has happened. I support you 100%. Live, love, and be strong.

You know what I sometimes wish…
I wish that the north lost the civil war and we were two countries – one where all the racist, greedy, warmonging, “moral” small minded ASSHOLES could make the rules that made them happy and one where intelligent, peaceful tolerant people could make theirs.

Re: Julianne – …Dictatorship is when ONE person or SMALL GROUP is in control and no one is alloud to disagree…

  21. 21

Re: joyous1 – Several months ago Barack Obama came out against Proposition 8…

    google it.

  22. 22

Why don't you ask your lord and saviour, Your Majesty Obama to save you?

  23. 23

Perez, I read you every day. You were fair to let us post both sides of the issue - you let us comment freely - you didn't ban me - (many people I'm sure, would like you to) for that I must thank you. If you can, can you PLEASE understand, the American people get VERY annoyed with a MINORITY suing, and complaining, and Prop Measures, all of it - how about the Millions of dollars BOTH sides could have spent on better issues - but no, the radical homosexuals, the ones YOU support, can't understand WE VOTED TWICE - each time - we had to take Harsher steps - had to write it into to constitution. Hands off Marriage - OK get it?- we're NOT sharing - IT'S OURS - THE HETROSEXUALS - like gay pride days is YOURS - DEAL with it - you CHOSE an alternative LIFESTYLE - we didn't - SO WHAT- go live in peace - you have civil unions - that IS enough - keep suing and we'll KEEP voting NO - GET IT?

  24. 24

Re: ashbert13 – You know what Ashbert13 - NO one walked out of this election with out being HURT - I had heated arguments with family and friends - I cried when Obama was elected - you think it felt good for my state to give a FARM ANIMAL rights in CA - and my 12 year old can go get an abortion and not tell us? THAT HURT. It brings me GREAT pain the CULTURE of death - particularly with the white, rich, educated women of this country - who kill their babies on demand - which - by the way, I'm sorry, is a MORE serious issue, than two ladies with strap on's who want social security benefits - and to defile the institution of marriage - I didn't feel GREAT about stripping rights from fellow Americans but you FORCED us to by using our courts for your AGENDA - we don't want it OK - you CHOSE your lifestyle now LIVE with consequences - I have to live with fucking OBAMA for the next 4 years - the people have spoken so I shut the fuck up about it

  25. 25

I still think that marriage should be between and man and a woman, I don't have anything against gay people but marriage is an heterosexual institution. Maybe you can fight to get a civil union or something like that.

  26. 26

100 years ago: I couldn't vote. Black people and white people couldn't get married. Black people couldn't drink out of the same drinking fountain as white people. They too were seen as a lesser people.

In 50 years, we will look back on this and think "man, people were so bigoted back then." This too shall pass.

  27. 27

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm no i rather donate to my beer fund

  28. 28

Re: STFUP – ::I have no problem giving homosexuals rights as anyone else, but marriage is by definition between heterosexuals.::

Comments like this crack me up. How can people blatantly contradict themselves so much in one mere sentence?! Obviously you do have a problem giving homosexuals the same rights as everyone else, otherwise you wouldn't care if they married or not. Not to mention marriage isn't legally defined as between a man and woman, and that is clearly going to change very soon. That this is even an issue people vote on is appauling.

  29. 29

Yip EEE…..the ass pounders LOST!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Beam THAT up Sulu…..

  30. 30

god some of you people are fucked up!! firstly, PIG - you spend an awful lot of time replying to gay posts - you might want to re think your sexuality you fucking homo (and I can say that b/c I am one).
