Ellen Speaks Out
With the passing of perhaps one of the most ridiculous propositions of the last 10 years, many celebs are speaking out.
And the recently-married Ellen DeGeneres is among those that are speaking out about this injustice.
In a statement released by DeGeneres says:
"Watching the returns on election night was an amazing experience. Barack Obama is our new president. Change is here. I, like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step towards equality. We were watching history.
This morning, when it was clear that Proposition 8 had passed in California, I can’t explain the feeling I had. I was saddened beyond belief. Here we just had a giant step towards equality and then on the very next day, we took a giant step away.
I believe one day a 'ban on gay marriage' will sound totally ridiculous. In the meantime, I will continue to speak out for equality for all of us."
You go, girl!
We couldn't agree with Ellen any more.

Yes, that's it, I'm sure. That's why I used question marks in my post(rolls eyes). My gay friend has repeatedly tried to get me to go to the gay bar with him but I refuse. I don't mind gays having their own subculture(and I have no interest in participating in their subculture) I just don't think they have the right to redefine marriage for the rest of the culture. The good thing about gay male friends…you don't have to worry about them hitting on you.

The fact is, most people still believe that term "marriage" is between a man and woman. Our new vice president is one of these people and while Obama has stated publicly that he supports same sex "marriages" it is rumored that privately, not so much. The people have spoken, and in this country majority rules.

Give all gays and straights equal rights in legal civil contracts, that is all we want. the term 'marriage' can then be defined as a religious ceremony. Its then up to the churches who they 'marry'. Any church that wishes to marry anyone should be licensed, which i believe they already kind of are. At that point if a gay couple gets a union performed in a church it can be called marriage. Make marriage specifically religious. Its only a word.

We left your land in order to form our own land with it's own distinct culture and system of governance. If people want the ways of Europe they are free to go live there. As for the Mayflower that you invoked. You are clearly not familiar with the Mayflower Compact because, of course, you have no clue to our history. The Mayflower Compact states the reason the Pilgrims came here was, “for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.”

Most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were Orthodox Christians and evangelical Christians. When George Washington was sworn in he placed his hand on the Bible, and solemnly repeated the presidential oath, and he added the words “So help me God!” and he kissed the Bible.

SSM would be fine, except for one thing.
Heterosexual marriage is the only institution that fully erases all physical, economic, social, and culturally-imposed differences between women and men. It is the only institution that harnesses the entire human race to work hard together and raise children in prosocial manner. It is the only institution that naturally assures everyone equal rights of every description regardless of race, sex, or creed. Same-sex marriage is the polar antithesis of equality because it maximizes every tangible disparity that exists between women and men.
If you believe in equality, you can't believe in SSM.
