Gays and lesbians are being treated as second class citizens in the state of California, which this week passed a Proposition filled with H8te that denies loving, committed partners the rights, privileges and protections that come with full marriage equality under the law.
In reaction, thousands and thousands of concerned freedom fighters gathered in West Hollywood on Wednesday to continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.
The fight for equality for ALL is a civil rights issue.
Separate but not equal does not work.

Am I the only one genuinely confused by this? There was a proposition, people voted. It didn't pass, deal with it. If the yes voters were protesting after it had passed you would be dogging them like crazy. Let's keep this a democracy, shall we?
Perez you need to lay off it. 51% of the vote would be enough for you if it went your way, you need to accept that the people of California have spoken. The majority do not support it, it sucks for you but that's that. Continually posting about it didn't help before the voting, and it's not going to help after.
This is silly. Homosexuals shouldn't be able to legally marry since marriage is a heterosexual institution. It's a ridiculous cause. I have no problem giving homosexuals rights as anyone else, but marriage is by definition between heterosexuals.

The people have spoken Perez. Although by a small majority they chose to pass it. It kind of reminds me of a presidential election we just had. My candidate lost by about 7 million people. There are more people than that in the town I live in. Not a landslide victory but guess what, that is democracy. Perez you clearly don't understand the law, Gay is not a recognized class. Even though I believe there are Varying degrees of genetic proclivity to homo sexuality your desire to marry is a choice and that is NOT genetic. The State has determined that the contract of marriage is avaliable to any individual as long as they marry some one of the opposite sex. You have the Exact same rights any straight person does. The restriction is based on a number of things primary of all is the protection of children between two people that have sex. Marriage is a contract which give an incentive for two people capable of procreating to remain together for the financial and social welbeing of the resulting child.

We are on the brink of another civil rights movement. It was only 40 years ago that black people were fighting for the same equal rights, and now the GLBT community is about to fight back and get what is rightfully theirs. I am with you Perez, and with the whole GLBT community that DESERVES equal rights. Change is coming and it's long overdue.
I am not the 1st to say it, but the majority should not be able to vote on minorities issues. Did men get to vote on women being allowed to vote? Whites get to decide if blacks should vote? We would never put to a vote the idea of inter racial marriage, why should there EVER be a vote to decide who gets to marry whom? What an unbelievably stupid narcissistic idea. This issue actually swayed my vote the complete opposite direction I had been heading. This makes me think of women not being seen as good enough to have the right to vote…blacks being treated as less than second class citizens…but this also makes me think that, someday, we will look back at this like we do about women voting and black equality–that it was ridiculous and that we had come so far since then–

Its too late now, people were given a chance to vote against Prop 8 on Tuesday and they obviously made their choices. A protest won’t change anything. Its obvious that people were lying when they first said that they were against Prop 8 cause they were ashamed of admitting that they did have an issue with gay marriage. Thats the source of the problem. Not the voting system itself, since you had the chance to reject it and you didn’t therefore everything was completely legal and fair. Its the PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA themselves. You’ve only got yourselves to blame. If a protest can change voting outcomes, wouldn’t McCain supporters (all 53 million of them) have already stormed the streets by now? You gotta be reasonable. Perhaps the absentee votes can help but technically there isn’t much else that can be done until all the votes have been counted. And aren’t Obama/Biden against gay marriage to begin with? I remember Biden specifically stating his debates that they are against this issue on a 'national' level and would prefer 'states to decide for themselves. Its just beautiful lingo for "I'll say anything you want to hear but don't pull me into troubled waters!". Aren't you guys just contradicting yourselves then? Yes stop the hate but that also means stop the protesting, plan for your next step. Its going to be a very long road ahead.

The gay people plus everyone else they may not be living the right way is the reason the world is in such bad shape. God is your father and he loves everyone. There are so many people that are lost. I believe that is people would start protesting for God to come back into everything then the world would get better. I am a woman and married to a man. I have a wonderful son. I could not have had that wonderful child without a man. I did not want to have a child the other ways. I do not want my son having two mothers or two fathers. That is so messed up. I do not want him growing up thinking that is the right way because everyone else is doing it. My husband and I do not get along some of the times and sometimes I do think that women together and men together would probably have more in common and get along better. But that is not God's way. I'm not perfect and sinless but that is one of the big things you shouldn't do. I guess I need to stop.

Its wrong to compare this to the civil rights movement and MLK he never mentioned anything about gays. PLUS gays are not rainbow colored! They are not salves this is really insulting to compare this issue to the civil rights movement! Gay marriage was never allowed in the first place its something very new and you can force people to give up their right to vote to keep marriage between a man and a women. Two reasons gay lost.
1-Polls show that black voters are more likely to attend church than whites and less likely to be comfortable with equality for gay people. According to CNN, African Americans voted against marriage equality by a wide margin, 69% to 31%. High turnout of African Americans in Florida probably help explain that state's lopsided vote to ban same-sex weddings…..
2- Also the mayor of San Francisco participated in an add that say: Gay married is not an option anymore, it's mandatory: Either you like it or not.
