That's A Lot Of Doh For Pooh!

poohbear.jpg

Who knew Winnie the Pooh was worth so much?

An original, oval pencil sketch by E.H. Shepard, shows Pooh bear dipping his paw into a pot of honey while sitting at a table. Piglet and Tigger are also in the drawing.

So can you guess how much the sketch sold for?

It went for $50,000!!!

The winner of the pricey piece of history was a telephone bidder from Germany who bought it for his wife, who's apparently a big Pooh fan.

But will he be a repeat buyer?

On the day of the sketch auction, it was announced that another auction would take place in London on December 17th, offering "the finest single collection of Shepard's original drawings for the Pooh books."

The collection will also include a rare selection of A.A. Milne's books, and the entire thing is expected to bring in around $835,000 to $1,200,000.

A waste of money or a good investment?

What do U think?

Milne named the character Winnie-the-Pooh after a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne, who was the basis for the character Christopher Robin. Word has it that he didn't Care for the books Go figure….

I don't care what anyone says ARTWORK IS AN APPRECIATING ASSET especially when the artist is dead!!!!
I am in the art business so I know.
Artwork is basicly recession proof depending on the artist.

  27. 27

    Rick owns you.

  28. 28

Winnie the Pooh is boring and depressing
    What a waste of money

  33. 33

Who buys art as an investment with a big payback? Worth it if you loves the pooh!

  34. 34

winnie the pooh wasn't a disney enterprise when it started.. disney just took over the idea like they do to many things

personally, i love winnie the pooh but i would never spend that much money on a drawing

  35. RJ says – reply to this

    35

Come on…who doesn't like Pooh. People have spent more or worst shit.

  36. 36

    Perez

Whilst asking for forgiveness and washing mouth with soap for cruel remarks on KM's "legs" you can also say in your own defense

Yes but even though I did say unkind things about KM I did however blog Winne the Pooh and note the Fame of Pooh and Pooh's value in the International Art World. I did do that Dali Lama. Am I forgiven?

You could use the foregoing as mitigating circumstances now or again when you stand before the firey gates of hell for hurting K's feelings

    just sayin

  37. 37

    oh and yes Perez

    to answer your question

    yes a very good investment
and its value is going to get higher
    and higher

:) so you might wanna get over to London and get one

  38. 38

Worth it, it's a piece of American history

  39. 39

As a HUGE winnie the pooh fan, i think it's a good investment because winnie the pooh is going to be around forever and it's only going to get more popular, bringing more money to the original things. eeyore is my favorite though so it would be amazing to see some original works of eeyore :)

  40. 40
