as a daughter of a mormon mother, i can say that many of those points are true.
regardless, the entire concept that marriage should be tied into taxes is absolutely absurd. i don't believe any church whatsoever should be forced to join a union under their ideals if the couple does not follow the beliefs of the church.
that being said, the propaganda behind many americans thinking that obama was a muslim did not prevent him from being elected president. to blame the media or propaganda of a church on the entire reason for the vote of a state is shameful.
mormons do not hold the majority in california or in any other state that has outlawed gay marriage. the scapegoat of this group is no different than the overturning of the gay marriage ban.

I do not agree with the passing for Prop 8. However Prez do not give the Mormon church credit…..the people of California had a duty to learn about the issues-citizens of the State did not learn nor educate themselves….Yes, the church had manpower but it was up to the citizens.

Mormons scare me, just like scientology.
I think its hilarious that people will hate anything they dont understand. I was raised in the mormon church and later disfellowshiped because i didn't believe in the mormon teaching. My parents are still mormon followers and agreed with proposition 8 although i opposed it growing up in san francisco ca. The church never pushe political positions onto its members. MORMONS AND CHRISTIANS alike voted yes on prop 8 because they follow the teachings of the bible not because they want to disrespect others although it can be seen as that. I don't want to strip anyone from their beliefs .. Mormons were not the only one's who made Prop 8 and Amendment 2 happen it was all people. We just can't target one group. I think we should target our outrage on our government for allowing such Prop's to be but on a ballot. Even though I was stripped of my right I won't fight Evil and With Evils but instead with LOVE and an army of ballsy lawyers..
Signing this will also help get rid of the tax-free status that the "religion" of Scientology enjoys, should they continue to push their political agendas (e.g., killing all pharmacists) through their various political front groups ("Human Rights Commission").
Also, don't forget: People used religion and quoted Scripture to argue AGAINST interracial marriages back in the day. Interracial marriages were illegal until 1967. Those of you who are in an interracial marriage or were the product of an interracial union: Shame on you if you voted for Proposition 8.

If you believe in G-d, then you believe we should all be G-d like and I always thought that was to accept everyone with no bias. If you want to pick and chose what part of the bible you're going to live by, then pick the part where we were all created equal.

the mormon church didnt donate money as an institution, the members of the church were encouraged to donate, which is not illegal in any way.
california is a huge state… gay people may be more accepted in the larger cities (san fran and la) but out here in the sticks (agricultural land takes up much more area), gays and lesbians arent so lucky. i am all for gay rights, but you have to face the fact that this issue will forever be tied up in the court system, and then voted on again EVERYTIME. im not saying give up, but at least have some class about things.

I have been a fence sitter for many years.

And just to set the record straight.. Mexican's could not vote, if they did, it was illegal and should not be counted. AMERICAN's voted and if these "Mexican's" are legal then they are AMERICAN's of Mexican decent, who had to learn more about our country and history then, most of us will probably ever know. Similar things happened in Phoenix, Arizona with Prop 102. I saw signs everywhere at churches in Arizona stating vote "Yes" for Prop 102=One man, one woman….. What is up with that? Seperation of church and state. Yes, Calvary off of Thunderbird I'm using you as a prime example.

A few years back we voted on prop 187..anyone remember Prop87? An initiative statute, nicknamed the "Save Our State" initiative, that
seeks to deny public social, educational and health services to aliens who
are in California illegally. It passed and it was meant to save the state(s) millions of tax dollars and hopefully our school systems.. it was over turned due to civil rights. Since when do those of other countries have more civil rights in this country then those who are born here, work here, pay taxes here and aren't leaches to society?
