Anyone who participates in something like this DESERVES to be considered a second-class citizen.
I'm not a hater but it's difficult to compare the equal rights rhetoric of Prop 8 and much more well publicized equal rights movements with historical significance…like race rights (equal and not separate, just plain equal) and gender issues (everyone can vote and own houses and shit).
I think the fundamental issue most Americans have is that they dont like calling a partnership between same sexes as marriage per se. Personally, I define marriage as the vow between a man a woman and all that includes.
I think same sex couples should have ALL the rights that a married couple has however, the name needs to be something like Legal Union or Life Partner or anything else for that matter….just not marriage. Shit, call it a unified marriage or a union marriage or whatever. Refer to your partner as husband or wife if you like…but the official coupling should be called something different so its easier to explain to kids.

I'm so tired of all this; California has voted (again), the results have been tallied (again) and the result is the same (again).
I voted Yes on 8, but now that I'm looking back I'm thinking if it had not passed this might be beneficial to other 'minority groups'. The GLBT community claims that you 'cannot' choose to be gay, you are born that way. Well, I was born to love to smoke pot; it is not a 'choice', my doctor has prescribed it to me and I cannot live without it. I know that there are other people out with my same condition, so I'm going to say we are a 'minority group'. If this gets overturned, then I will also have to fight for my 'right' to smoke wherever I'd like. I hope everyone reading this understands and will support our 'minority group' in getting this accomplished.
(Also, what about the 'minorities' that want to right to marry more than 1 person….how come no one backs them up?)

You guys have every right to protest, but doing so outside cathedrals and Mormon temples isn't going to get adherents of those denominations to accept you. Their beliefs are deep in their religion, and protesting may tell them what you think, but I think they already know what you think. And it's not going to change their minds.

comparing this prop to women sufferage and black civil rights is an insult to every black and every woman out there. How come no protests in the other 4 states that passes similiar laws? I didn't want Obama to get elected but realistically, half of the people who vote for something are going to be disappointed at the outcome. I'm one of them, and okay, I'm in the minority, I get it.. but I had my chance and I have to accept that, and work towards changing things in the future.
By the same token, on Prop. 8, it's not as if gays were banned from voting, they simply didn't get the numbers they needed at the polls. To overturn this decision would be a VERY slippery slope. Protest all you like, but seems to me your best option is to campaign to have it put back up for voting, and then lobby the $hit out of it.
Not that I'm against gay unions, but I think if we see any kind of a change based on these protests, I'm going to be extremely frightened by the decline of the democratic balloting system.

The great thing about this country is that we do have the right to protest and stand up for what we believe in. It's sad that there are people that believe that marriage is a word that has one definition defined in the bible. What if someone doesn't believe in the bible. What if an athiest man gets married to an athiest women? But if two gay men who believe in God and intend to take the vows to heart and honor each other through sickness and in health- that's wrong? We aren't trying to shove our lifestyle in anyone's face. The homosexual relationship isn't going to evolve into a big public gay circus just because we have the right to marry. I am Mormon and have fought tooth and nail at the mormon university b.y.u. AGAINST prop h8te. I think it is abominable, but I am kind of annoyed that now you're supporting protests toward my religion. Sure, a lot of mormons are against gay marriage, but that usually comes with the territory of religion, so why are you surprised? Furthermore, NYC mormons are not the same, and I'll have you know that my sister, her husband and their 6month old baby live in Manhattan and attend that temple - and yet she is supportive of gay marriage also! Our Church leaders do not promote Prop 8, they ask us to pray about it, think about our morals and personal values and MAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS. Maybe next time you talk about not promoting hate, you should look in the fucking mirror.

Alright. First of all may i say i absolutely love gay people. i work in the hair industry hand in hand with many of you fabulous human beings every single day. i voted no against prop 8 because i believe it was a civil rights issue not a religious issue. i think that everyone has the right to be considered equal under the law. i would never vote against taking this away.
anyways. as for protesting in front of a sacred mormon temple.. isn't that in some way condoning hate? I'm sure you can't all believe that every single person who voted yes was a mormon. i have many mormon friends.. and i know some who actually VOTED NO!.. so why would you want to punish them specifically for this horrible thing that was passed.
the reality is that some people (not just mormon's) believe that homosexual couples should not be able to marry because a marriage should be between a woman and a man. this list includes almost EVERYONE who has a religion. i think it's horrible that you can't just protest in a street somewhere.. but that you have to take a stand in front of something that means the world to some people.
if you really believe in hate free society.. then stop hating on specific groups of people, just like you feel they're doing to you..

3 words: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. Secondly, marriage is not only for religious people. There are atheists who marry and people of all faiths (not just the one you deem as correct and everyone else is going to hell) who marry, and more and more people marrying in courtrooms. As for God, he never said anything about homosexuals, though Jesus said plenty about loving your neighbors and doing onto them as they would do onto you. How you like your rights to marry taken away? Also, the Bible says plenty of things, including that eating pig, lobster, and shrimps are an abomination and that you shouldn't shave you're facial hair and that it is ok to sell your daughters. I don't see you subscribing to any of these things. There are plenty of religious people who support equal rights, plenty of religious gays, and more churches opening every day that open gays into congregations. Clearly, not everyone is getting the same message you are.

I reiterate, in simple terms even you can understand. Marriage vs. Civil Union = Separate But Equal = NOT EQUAL. Secondly, marriage is not a religious instutution. You can be of any faith to get married or even of no faith. There is a separation of Church and State written into the consitution. Sorry honey, maybe it's you who should learn the difference.
