Honorable Mention: Man Tries To Steal Communion Wafers

This is Jonathan Ricci.
Things first began to go wrong for Ricci when, during mass, Ricci accepted a communion wafer, but he walked away before he took the the communion into his mouth. This got him some unwanted attention from a priest, and in response, Ricci grabbed for a handful of wafers and tried to leave.
After all, the "body of Christ" is oh-so-tasty.
Since Communion is very serious business, pairshoners didn't take Ricci's gluttony too well. While people attempted to detain our Christ-hungry criminal, Ricci became livid, scuffling with his captors, and landing himself in the slammer.
Ricci was slapped with theft (The approximate 15 wafers are valued at $1), battery, and disrupting a religious assembly.
But look how peaceful he looks in his mugshot!!!

This is actually a pretty big deal for the Catholic church. The host (wafers) is commonly used in different Satanic or other sacrificial rituals. That's why it's supposed to be consumed in the church, and the only way to take consecrated eucharist outside of the church is with special permission from a bishop i want to say, and only for someone who is physically unable to make it to church (ex: bedridden)

The theft of communion wafers (the body of christ) is often done as a rite of passage into some anti-catholic/christian organizations.
I'm not saying this is why he did it, but it has been done.
It is not unusual for people to try and steal communion wafers. Priests watch very carefully that they don't. Some people try to use them in satanic rituals. It is a huge deal if someone tries to steal it.

yup. not like, the LaVey church of Satan, but other groups which believe that the host serves some sort of literal or symbolic use in their ritual. Not to say that this guy is necessarily in such a group, but that could well be the reason the church freaked out so much, guarantee you it had nothing to do with the $15 lost.

Wow, I can't believe they detained and arrested him. I'm not Catholic. In a Protestant church (at least the mainline ones I associate with), they'd let him go and later try to see if he had some sort of mental health issue or active addiction that caused such strange behavior. Arrested at church? Wow. I can't believe that.
