The Killers did it in concert this past weekend, but their version pales in comparison to this one.

Greg Laswell has done an exquisite cover of Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

It's absolutely ravishing! One of the best renditions we've ever heard of the song.

      I am SOOOO tired of this trend of people/bands taking up-tempo songs (particularly pop hits from the 80's) and slowing down the tempo to make it a ballad, and how people fawn all over the s-h-i-t* like it's the most amazing thing since sliced bread.
      Now don't get me wrong - this Greg person has a nice voice, plays piano just fine, and is hecka handsome…but this cover is incredibly boring. Besides the fact that it completely destroys the meaning of the lyric…it's just not especially well written, musically.

      With something like She Bop, changing it the way Cyndi did when she slowed it down for her acoustic album, brought it a new meaning. It went from being an incredibly aggressive, in-your-face peon to masturbation to a faaaaar sexier and more sultry, jazzy, orgasmic song about pleasure. You can't just change the tempo and arrangement of a song without giving consideration to what you're singing.

      I suppose you could reeeeeaaaallly strech and say that the "girls" from the original version are all in their 40's now and are too tired to party, but… no. It's just a bad cover.

      Greg Laswell has been around for a while now, this song played on the last season of the hills. His original music is often featured on Greys Anatomy. He opened for Ingrid Michaelson in NY at Terminal 5.
      Bottom line, he is amazing. His own music blows this away. Listen to "embrace me", he is God.

      Last night, Greg Laswell gave you a shout out during his show @ Schubas before he sang "Girls Just Wann a Have Fun"
      He asked everyone in the crowd if they have heard of you, & surprisingly some people didnt. He said that you gave praise to his cover & posted a link to the song from his myspace. He said based on the comments posted to ure blog, it was 50/50 - hate it/love it. Although, he was more into how people hated it. He told the crowd to check you out, he said it seems to be the new & happening thing….I thought that his cover was very creative & artistic! He should get more raves about it! He truly is a great artist & with such a beautiful voice!

      BTW, we love to listen to you on B96 every morning! Listening to you gives us such a good start in the morning.
