Will Smith's Son To Star In Karate Kid Remake

Columbia Pictures is trying to wax on some extra cash with a remake of the 1984 kid classic The Karate Kid. Produced by the franchise's original money man, Jerry Weintraub, the updated version is intended as a star vehicle for Will Smith's 10-year-old son Jaden.
This already sounds obnoxious.
Smith's own Overbrook Entertainment will also be producing.
We foresee some major temper tantrums on set.
With a script by Chris Murphy, the film is scheduled to begin production next year in Beijing and other exotic locales.

If I'm going to watch a lackluster spin off of the original 'Karate Kid', it's definately not goin to be this piece of shit. I'll take the Hilary Swank vehicle 'The Next Karate Kid', where Miyagi takes on a girl as his pupil. That one is brilliant in it's awfulness. This nepotism fueled cash grab for the tween set will just be awful. Besides, you can't make a Karate Kid movie without Pat Morita, that's just plain silly.

I just read the script…a friend of mine works for a Paramount subsidiary. The whole hook of the film is that Ralph Macchio's character lays pat morita to rest and takes over as the sensei for the local Karate Dojo. He then takes on a similiar student to him when Mr. miyagi taught him Karate. It is actually a great script.

Some things should just be left alone. And this is one of them. It is a classic all by itself and should not be messed with. It could NEVER be as good as the original, so why mess with it. I agree with bunnybee, do something original.

Does it really matter that he's black? NO. What matters is that they are re-making a classic, and the premise of the original film will be destroyed by the "new and improved" details in the script. This has nothing to do with his race what so ever. If they are set on making this film with a 10 year old, he is the right one to do it. The classic is untouchable.
So Lame! This is a classic 80s movie and not ready to be remade yet. Why not try for an original script about a kid doing karate. The guys in this movie were in high school in the film. How is a 10 yr old going to pull that off?
