"The Movember Foundation is an Australian based, not for profit, charitable organization that implements the Movember event each year across the globe.

The Movember event creates awareness around men's health issues and raises funds for carefully selected beneficiary partners in each country that are also charitable organizations, with a focus on prostate cancer.

Since its inception as a formal charity in 2004, Movember has raised over $29 million (USD) globally and is continuously working to increase awareness of prostate cancer within the community and change the attitude men have about their health.

Movember's beneficiary partner in the United States is the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer. Founded in 1993, the PCF has raised more than $350 million and provided funding for more than 1,400 research projects at nearly 150 institutions worldwide. All funds raised by Movember in the US stay in the US and go directly to the PCF.

The PCF has a simple, yet urgent goal: to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer."

This is actually something you didn't post as well for Movember…the whole month of November…Australian men grow out their moustaches. Gross but also kinda cool. I see the Australian surfers all the time down here & they are all growing them out…very cool!!

It's nice to see this; there is very little out there about prostate cancer, whereas breast cancer awareness is everywhere. It sadly seems to me because prostate cancer affects men and there is more awareness for what affects women, and I think this is a down-side to feminism; it over-inflates women's issues but downplays men's.Think about it; how much fundraising is OUT there for this cancer?

I see that it started in Australia, but is also in the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Spain, & Ireland. In the US Movember benefits the Prostate Cancer Foundation of America. MO RIDES 50 CENTS!

Hey Perez, you forgot to say that the point of movember (other than raising money and awareness) is that guys grow a moustache for the month. Its great, a lot of people are doing it.

  12. 12

Hey Perez, thanks for highlighting an awesome cause.

My bf is growing his mo (hence 'Mo-vember") handlebar style, and has raised a couple of hundred dollars already, it's a shame prostate cancer and mens depression isn't highlighted as much as womens in oz, even around the world when you think about.

    DONATE PEOPLE! :D

  13. 13

umm. not saying women have prostates. boys get ball cancer and girls get boobie and vajayjay cancer.

I just need a reason to dress up in my roller girl outfit.

I love movember - my friend, in response to her bf's participation has begun novembfur, a month where women do not shave (anywhere) and is donating all proceeds to the American Cancer Association.

The whole deal with Movember is blokes (guys for the yanks :P ) growing moustaches to raise the funds for charity - a great way for men to show support for a silent killer - also to highlight the need for conversation around men's health. Go Mo's!

    Re: clarkdreams

I too have donated to novemfur (no 'b' clarkdreams!), a damn good effort at raising money for cancer, not shaving may not seem like much, but it's more than most of us do to help on any given day…or year.

A simple googling will point you towards firstgiving where you too can donate!

Guys with 'Mo's' are HOT, think Jason Lee, Magnum PI, the Marlbro Man, the list is endless. It is a shame that there are soo many charities being run to support breast cancer/cervical cancer but nothing really for mens health..The amazing thing about Movember is that it not only raises $$ for prostate cancer but for also male depression.

I think it's an amazing effort for guys to get behind such an amazing cause & even better, I get to be surrounded by guys with 'Mo's' for the entire month of November..If anyone wants to go to the best party of the year, go to the Movember gala party, I have been to the gala parties in Australia for the past couple of years & they are massive, hot guys & stunning girls all cutting loose to raise $$ & awareness for a worthwhile cause..Heeee Yaaa
