Cash Cow Obama Gives Staffers Extra Moolah
President-Elect Barack Obama raised more than $600 million for his presidential bid and, now, post-election it looks like he still has some major cash in the bank.
According to new reports, his hard working campaign staff is getting a nice bonus from boss man Obama.
Happy holidays to them!
They'll be getting a check equal to a month's worth of salary in the mail!
A former 'low-level' Obama campaign worker told the NY Daily News, "It was totally unexpected, and you can't believe how helpful this is with the holidays coming. A lot of people thought they were going to be broke and would have to try to find a job in this rotten economy. It's a huge help."
Furthermore, it's reported that staffers also have the option of keeping their campaign-issued computers and BlackBerrys (but must pay income tax on the items if they do so).
We're hopeful that President-Elect Obama will run the country as well as he ran his campaign!

Absolutely. They worked hard and they earned it. I'm more than happy that my contribution could possibly be used to reward all their hard work. I have been a grassroots community organizer for a while not and it is not easy by any means. Nicely done, Pres-elect!

I gave money to the campaign. This money is not coming from money left over. I keep getting emails that they still need money to pay for the campaign. I'm broke, can't find a job, and won't be able to buy my son much for christmas. I'm not trying to give someone else a christmas bonus.

I did give a lot (for me) to the Obama campaign and I have no problem with this. They did work their asses off to get him elected. And I am personally very grateful for that! A lot of them left lucrative jobs to join the campaign and are going back to a horrible economy where jobs are scarce. So good for them!

Actually No! I am still receiving e-mails from the Obama campaign people, and they keep saying they have a huge debt and want me to at least contribute $30! not $5 like they use to say but $30! Apparently they don't have a huge debt! I love Obama but this pevs me off.
I think that's a great way to spend my contribution: give it to the people who left regular jobs to stump for my candidate. I think it's fair.
They worked hard for it. And he's basically just made them all redundant not long before christmas - i'd be pissed if he spent it on anything else..

You know, I don't mind that my contribution is going this way. The staffers worked very hard and got him elected. The thing that irritates me however, is that a week after the election, the campaign was sending out emails requesting donations to the DNC to refill their coffers. I understand they need to build back up their stash, but how about they do something, change something, prove our original donations were worth it….before asking us for more. And if there's that much money left over, give it to the DNC.
Um, NO I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS!! I just got an email from his campaign saying the DNC was broke after the convention and they wanted donations. If he had money left over, he should give it to his party!! or give it back to us!

I do think that the money could have gone to something more important, but it's definitely a good way for him to use the money earned.
Absolutely cool with it. Giving money to people IS putting it into the economy. The best way to keep our economy is to keep spending. Keep businesses going, that's where the jobs are. The DNC has a huge debt, not the Obama camp. The DNC used their funds not only to get Obama elected, but to gain a majority in the House and Senate. Their problem.

why is it that when we try so hard and fight so hard to get the president we want in office and he gets in we are so happy. But then the same people that fought to get him in does or says things to turn a good thing into a bad thing? Who cares what he spends the money on? We contributed to a man we trust, and trust he will do with the money what he thinks he should. If he thinks his campain deserves a bonus for helping get the man that needed to be in office in office then give them more. I am thankful for them.

You know, if McCain had won and was giving the leftover money to his campaign staffers, allowing them to keep computers, etc… people would be having a fit! I mean, they're giving Sarah Palin grief over her wardrobe, which she is giving back to the RNC, and it was only $150,000. We're talking MILLIONS of dollars that Obama is spreading around his campaign workers. That just doesn't seem right.
I was hoping he would do this with the campaign money- all employers should! They worked hard and he had one of the best run campaigns in history, it is a well-deserved bonus for his staffers and their families.
