Dr. Green Back From The Grave, Sends Hearts Racing

ER's final season got a boost this week with the return of former main character Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards). He is one of several former cast members expected to reappear and take the show out with a bang.
Thursday night's episode earned a 3.7 rating/10 share among the 18-29 demographic totaling 9.8 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen overnight numbers. That's a big jump from the 8.6 million viewers the show averaged last week.
Edwards is expected to revisit the set again, but in the form of flashbacks, since Dr. Greene died of a brain tumor in a past season of the show.
The ratings boost helped take NBC to a 3rd place overall, with CBS in 2nd, and ABC in 1st.

It was a good episode,and possible in real life too: how the 5 year old suddenly died without warning: our 10 year old is in remission for leukemia he had 3 years ago,and he was also an "atypical" case; he didn't have the "classic" signs either; by the time we knew something was really wrong they'd said he'd only have had 2-3 days left and we would have found him dead of a brain-bleed(due to low platelet count) or heart attack(due to low hemoglobin which had indeed enlarged his heart.) For us it was a particularly touching episode; we came close to that exact same thing happening.A real tearjerker, in a very personal way.

@ Pogue Mahone: Thanks for sharing your personal story. I also enjoyed the episode, as Dr. Greene was the heart and soul of "E.R." for so many years. And Anthony Edwards' appearance came on the heels of the series creator Michael Crichton's untimely passing. It was good to see Edwards, Laura Innes, Eriq LaSalle, "Jerry" and Paul McCrane (who looked aged). Any news on whether George Clooney will reappear?
I saw a scene last night where the veteran nurse (Hallae) went from fat to thinner in one scene when they were trying to save the boy with leukemia. Did anyone else catch the blooper?
This show used to be great, but it's been sliding downhill for years. But last night's episode was a gem, albeit rather gimmicky.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. having a child with cancer(and who narrowly survived it,and each day it's still always hanging over us "What if he relapses?" so it's never really "cured" or over,and he has to go for blood work the rest of his life) is a very difficult thing.It is every parent's worst nightmare.
As for the show ER, I have only been watching it for the past 3 years(despite it being on for 15 years) but I really enjoy it.
Well preserved.
It was nice to see him and other long departed cast members on last nights episode.

I liked that they had him on I tuned in just to see him. I remember watching him way back in the day. This was a real tear jerker episode. I hope that Clooney makes a cameo, but I doubt we will hear about it since the last time they did it it was all hush hush.

I for one loved last nights episode…it was so nice to see Dr. Greene again. I bawled like a baby the night he died. A few tears welled up last night when he made his appearance too.
Oh my God. The story about the doctor and her son dying of leukemia was very, very sad.
but…
i actually bawled when I saw my Dr. Greene again!!!! I stopped watching when Anthony Edwards' character died and last night was the first episode I watched since 'On The Beach'. Dear God that episode was sad!!!! Why did they have to go and kill Dr. Greene?! Sigh. Anthony Edwards is an amazing actor. I love him to pieces!!

I use to watch ER and loved Dr. Greene. It was so sad and eerie when he died.
