Hollywood Studios Are Doing Some Belt Tightening Too
Filed under: Icky Icky Poo > Business Blitz
Just like Marc Jacobs and MTV, Hollywood studios are scaling back their holiday partying.
According to Variety, Disney and Viacom are nixing bashes and Sony's cutting their annual tented affair back!
Hollywood caterers also report that studios aren't lavishing unabashedly at after-premiere parties.
If cutting back on partying helps pays the payroll, that's a good thing, right?

Hell to the ya, I work in corporate America and I am happy to not have a party and have a job.
what's funny about disney canceling their holiday party is they spent tons of money to throw that lame bday party for miley cyrus but can't find the money to reward all the employees that work hard to make it all happen.. LAME!
Awww, poooooor babies.
Fuck all of the over payed jack offs in Hollywood. Why not use that money for the hard workers behind the scenes that put up with your diva like bullshit….
Re: STFUP – Amen, don't fuck with the kids Perez ya fuck wit…
It's going to a bleak Holiday Season this year, with the economic meltdown affecting every aspect of our lives. Perhaps the Hollywood Studios should host more "modest" events for their employees, in an attempt to boost morale. Why so many Corporations jump from "all out extravagances" to doing nothing at all says a great deal about their priorities. Years ago, Holiday parties were simple and filled with "good cheer". Nowadays, Companies are trying to outdo each other with glitz and hoopla and tend to forget the most important element of the celebration is their employees.
I wonder how the Christmas bonuses for the "Fat Cats" are going to be meted out…
it is about time they cut back on these parties it is such a waste of money. Companies should absolutley look at cutting money at frivolous events such as this- and expense accounts, prior to cutting jobs. Even in a good economy millions of dollars should never be spent on a party. There are so many people in need that could use it more.
They can't afford a party, but they expect ppl to pay for their overpriced bullshit? Last I checked they don't sell Marc Jacobs at K-Mart. Give the working chumps a damn party, and stop over charging for those shitty clothes. How bout that? Or maybe pay outta pocket 20 G's and do something for your employees? Oh wait, YOU can't afford it huh? Yea, you shouldn't spend your money.

Unless of course you work for one of the Hollywood caterers.
I worked in event production and because of companies cutting back or simply cutting their events completely - I was laid off from my job. So, no - it does not help the economy. But it helps the people in their company cut back spending, and every man for himself, right? Personally, I am thankful I was laid off because it killed a part of my soul everytime I would see thousands of dollars spent on things as ridiculous as crafting supplies for "team building events." I agree that money should be spent on better things. But keep in mind that there are respectable people out there who work in lighting and sound, stage building, producing, etc. who are now out of work. It's really a catch-22. Either you cut back spending to take care of your employees or keep spending to keep the economy going. My company did the latter and I am out of a job.
Aawwww. How sad.
