Tomorrow, Saturday, November 15th, all over America and Canada, concerned citizens will be peacefully demonstrating the passing of Prop H8te in California - and similar discriminatory measures in Florida, Arizona and Arkansas.
This is an issue that affects us in EVERY state!
It's about the rights, privileges and protections that come with civil marriage that are currently being denied to gay and lesbian couples. It's about discrimination. And we can't stand for it!

No one is proposing that a man be legally allowed to marry his dog, toaster or houseplant (in case you missed the logic here, houseplants, dogs and toasters don't have civil rights under the Constitution of the United States). No one is arguing pure unequivocal equality for every object or living creature on earth. No one is making you go to gay weddings or congratulate anyone; no one is forcing you to accept anything. All gays are asking for is equality. I am not offended as much as I am deeply saddened by the bigotry on this website. You say this is not your religion speaking, but what I do know is that the majority of those against gay marriage are Christians of some ilk or another: be they Mormons or Baptists. They have preached this intolerance and bigotry from the pulpit, and donated millions. They've been calling me at home for weeks. These are Christians full of fear and hatred. This is bigotry. This is your intolerance of people who are not like you. And again, this does not offend, as much as sadden. I pray to God that someday people like you will learn to love instead of judge and hate. To give up your unfounded fear, and instead realize that giving another human equal rights does not diminish those rights you already hold, but only enhances humanity as a whole.

While I am for civil liberties for all I don't think it's the governments obligation or right to fundamentally change the definition of marriage and neither do a majority of Americans. I come here for Gossip. And please stop comparing the civil rights movement with gays wanting to get married. It's inaccurate and insulting! And if you really feel the need to quote Thomas Jefferson to support your cause, I suggest you research his true feeling a little more i.e. Jefferson's Notes on Virginia.
