Victoria's Secret Bras Could Be Hazardous to Your Health

If you've had an allergic reaction to one of your Victoria's Secret bras, it looks like you're not alone!
A number of ladies from several states have filed complaints against the underwear chain for hawking allegedly flawed bras.
In fact, so many women are coming out with complaints that it looks as if Vicky may have a class action lawsuit on its hands.
That sounds expensive!
An attorney for one of the claimants says formaldehyde is making its way into Victoria's Secret bras which could explain the allergic reactions (i.e. welts and rashes) bra wearers have come down with.
Formaldehyde? Really???
Ohio resident Roberta Ritter said in her complaint, "I had the welts … very red, hot to the touch, extremely inflamed, blistery. It itched profusely. I couldn't sleep, waking up itching. I was just utterly sick."
A number of complaints similar to Roberta's have also popped up on the medical self-help site medhelp.org, according to reports.
Victoria's Secret responded through their PR people with this statement, "We are sorry that a small number of people have had an issue and we want to help them determine the cause… Customer safety and satisfaction are always our primary concerns and we take seriously any issues our customers may have with our products."
In regards to the formaldehyde claim, the bra seller said, "We have strict quality controls around our products, and we do not use formaldehyde in our bras."

Ive worked at victorias secret for a few years now, get bras ALL the time & never have i had a problem with them. My favorite is actually one of the ones they are saying they are having the problems with. I think its the one lady & others think they can join in to get $$ out of it somehow.

Actually, for those of you that think this is stupid, I went to the doc yesterday and I'm getting an ultrasound because of a VS bra. I just read this thing and freaked out. Maybe I am a bit late on news.

YES!!!! These overpriced bras have made me sick!! Too bad they made my boobs look amazing. I had been getting rashes and welts on my breasts for months after purchasing them, never putting two and two together that a bra could be the reason. I am outraged by this- and no, not looking for a pay day, just an explanation as to why and what is causing this and if there will be any long term effects to my health. Since wearing the bras I have been getting other illnesses of which the doctors cannot explain. I have been in touch with VC and no one has returned my emails. I'm concerned for myself and others.
I actually just purchased 2 new ones from there last week….. and as soon as I put it on i began getting itchy…..the other one NO PROBLEM…….its really weird but they have the best bras……

It may not be that VS is using formaldahyde but it is very common in textiles to be finished with this chemical so maybe they aren't washing the fabric or finished product as well as they should.

I had the reaction, stopped wearing them and it went away. Now I wear Cosabella or for less expensive items Gap body is really good.

I don't wear their stuff, have never found it fit right or was comfortable. After reading this article, I'm in no hurry to buy any of their stuff either.
Most clothing that has been dyed has formaldehyde in it. Most notably jeans. You should always wash your new clothing before wearing if you're going to have it touch your skin.
What? Now I have to stop wearing VS. I will change to another brand immediately.

I can't believe this! This has happened to me. I thought it was just my skin having a reaction. I thought I had breast cancer and so did my mom. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and besides finding the lump in her breast she also had severe welts under her breasts so my mom and I scheduled a mamogram. Turned out to be nothing, but I had to use perscription cortizon-10 for about 6 weeks. I rarely ever wear those bras anymore. I still do sometimes, but I can only where them for about a day and then wait a week to wear them again.
Most clothing dye is set with formaldehyde. In fact, US controls on this are non existent. I had a clothing line for years and had no idea that my dye house was using the standard (formaldehyde) to set the color. I found out when i exported to Japan where they actually care about the health of their people. Then when i looked for a dye house that did not use hardcore chems like that i could only find one and most laughed at me saying "its industry standard".
The darker the clothing the more the dye has to set. Luckily formaldehyde will mostly wash out after a few washes.
ON another note, i worked at VS in high school and used to be so grossed out by the smell of the bras when we pulled them from their packaging. Now i know what i was inhaling.
Bottom line is people want to make money selling anything and most dont care about your health. Find companies that do -its easy with the internet!

LindseyNicole43…No one is making up excuses just to get $$. Obviously, women are getting welts because they are sueing and they did find something in the bras. Just becase your bras are find, doesn't mean everyone else's are. You should just be grateful it hasn't happened to you.
Yes, this happens to me when I wear their strapless bras. I always thought it was something in the material that keeps the bra up. I get welts that itch really bad. With so many women having the same symptoms, there is obviously something wrong with the bras. I thought it was just me! I actually just asked a friend the other day if she's ever had any problems.
yes!! i had no idea what it was.. it was brutalllll and even a loose tshirt was terrible to wear! i thought it was me! damn VS and their expensive bras.
No wonder so many women are ending up with breast cancer with that kinda crap in a bra - gotta keep my gurls safe and now there is another reason to burn bras.

Yes, I had an issue! I bought a bra from VC and it fell apart one month after. I went to complain to the store, just to find myself mistreated by the store manager and with no solution. I called their costumer service number and they were very apologetic and they sent me a coupon for a free bra….so that was good. Altough I still made a complain about the store manager…..
And by the way, the defective bra was the "100 ways bra"….
The same thing has been said to be happening with Carter's baby clothes! This is too weird.
i have had a slight slight rash and itch from several vs bras! weird! never anything crazy but it irritates me a little. irritates my boob i mean! lol.

I used to work there and was a huge fan and very loyal to the brand up until last year. They coincidentally changed their very flexible return policy (return in any condition with the receipt, whenever) to return unworn with the receipt in a specific amount of time, around the time they switched manufacturers and the quality of the products turned to shit. I'm really disappointed with the quality of their brand now

Thanks for posting this Perez. This happened to me, and I have the scars, medical bills and receipts to prove it. I only wore the VS bras until this happened. Girls keep telling your friends, and let's make sure VS is accountable for this, at least recall the bras.

wow man this is crazy! I love victorias secret bras but I have had the same issues. I have a tendency to get a little rash from them sometimes. I work out quite often though and I figured it was just from that. But I always shower and bla bla. I am totally fine when I wear bras from American Eagle or Fredricks. This blows! I love their semi annual sales.

Okay I work at VS, and our manager played this news report through our headsets the other day. We have to take any bras back with that complaint (even if you're lying, please don't lie) the formaldehyde is not IN the bras, but they are sprayed with a protectant before shipment, and there was some sort of fluke with recent nationwide shipment.
Sounds like a reaction to latex maybe?
Also isn't formaldehyde used in the manufacture of foam, as in padding????

happened to me.
I have 2 strapless bras that give me a welty/itchy rash whenever I wear them. I didn't used to get a rash. But in the last 3 months it happens every time I wear either bra. I'm not sure why, but its the stretchy, clear elastic part that causes this. It's really painful. I thought maybe I got shingles or something crazy.

Some years back, I caught Pitariasis Rosea (nasty, itchy rash that started at the braline and spread all over my torso - my derm said it looked like an untreated venereal disease, but a test proved otherwise. The rash was so spectacular, my derm took a photo for her archives) from a VS bra. However, this was one that I bought in one of their stores and not online. I can only assume that I caught the ailment from wearing an off-the-rack bra that (maybe) several people had tried on before, with lord-knows-what lurking beneath their skin. ICK!! So, from now on, I buy all my bras online and WASH THEM before I wear them. Sad, but I guess that's the world we live in…

This is SO TRUE… apart from the fact that those retarded bras are made for small boobs they gave me a rash a while ago. the retarded doctor said it was an inflammation from the bone and that everyone get's it, but now i've realized that this could have been the reason. It's red, itchy, and hurts really bad, well sometimes not anymore since i've changed my bra. Anyway they suck hopefully they do get sued!!
It could be a form of yeast infection. Infection is caused by bacteria forming in warm, wet conditions. As a big boobed women I know that under your breast is where a women typically sweats the most and if the bra makes you sweat more or the rubbing irritates the area it is definitley possible that these women could be experiencing a form of yeast infection. Google it!

Ok so I was talking about this the other day. I know someone who is VERY allergic to Formaldehyde: she has to wash every item of clothing from every store the moment she gets home, because almost every item you see in a store has some on it. That's how they stay nice and wrinkle free.
