The Mormons ARE To Blame!
In this great article from The New York Times today, the paper of record explains how were it not for the hate-filled leaders of the Mormon church, the unfair Proposition 8 would NOT have passed in California, writing discrimination into the state constitution.
And the Mormon church is proud of it in the Times article!
Perez has been to the Sundance Film Festival for the last three years in a row, but we will not be attending this year. And, we call on everyone in the entertainment industry to do the same.

Religion is very powerful in politics, and the gvernemnt iwll always have full control of everything. I am totally in support of gay marriage, but honestly, boycotting the Sundance Film Festival because it's in Utah, where a large portion of Mormon's happen to live, is entirely ridiculous. I know plenty of Jewish and Christian folks in Park City, and the residents of Park City tend to be pretty liberal, in fact. I don't know, Perez, I love you, but this seems like saying we should boycott anything related to Islam because Islamic terrorists were responsible for 9.11…so don't support boycotting the film festival because it happens to occur in a city in a state that has a large population of mormons. For someone who promotes acceptance and not judging a book by its cover, your promotion of boycotting this festival seems like the pot calling the kettle black.
What's better than everyone going to Sundance, and all the gay people can talk to the locals, and they will find out that your not bad people.
p.s. why not hate the catholic church as well- I mean, according to that article they went door to door as well… wait! did it say that the mormons were the last group to join the others? in getting it passed??

if you actually read the article, I think that you would be changing your attitude. I am Mormon but I have tons of friends that are gay. I am even going to be a part of one of their weddings. I would like to point out some facts.
Just because someone is Mormon does not mean we hate gays.
Mormons only made up 2% of the vote. TWO PERCENT!.
We were the LAST church organization to get involved and only did because we were ASKED to.
We did not start this and we did not finish it.

I initially was in favor of No on Prop 8 but the reaction that has followed has made me ashamed to have supported No on Prop 8.

The Mormon church doesn't benefit from people attending Sundance or any of the other festivals in Park City (which include Slamdance and the Queer Lounge), entities who have long supported and promoted gay rights and the artistic expression of gay filmmakers or straight filmmakers telling stories with gay protagonists. Do the research; this boycott is a scam.
