I posted a blog last week that angered some people who didn't know how to read properly, I then wasted my own time defending myself and now I regret that.
There is a fine line that distinguishes the difference between exercising our freedom of expression and offending others, for example the debate regarding freedom of speech vs. hate speech…. i feel that this principle should apply to protestors also. It's a pity that some groups feel the need to assault people as opposed to fighting with words.
Whenever I feel the need to vent about something that feels unfair to me I reach for my computer, I don't run out of the house with abusive intentions. I don't expect everyone to react the same way, but I do expect people to respect each other. Maybe that's my first mistake? It seems lately I am learning that there are too many people who put another species before their fellow man and that's sad. I don't wear fur, but I don't think I have the right to ATTACK those who do. No one has that right.
PETA should focus their efforts on educating people on what they believe are injustices instead of seeking press via harassing those in the limelight. I received an apology too many days late from the PETA folks (the blog removal was too little too late) and today I'm pissed at the bag of flour thrown on Lindsay last night. Not because I got powdered down, but because the girl who threw it acted like an animal herself. I take that back, it's an insult to animals to group her in with them, my dog is FAR more civilized than that person. I would have more respect for them if they didn't use other people to get their point across. Lindsay, Mary Kate, Ashley Olsen, Anna Wintour and the rest of the targeted celebrities aren't the problem, I'm pretty sure they're not the only ones wearing fur, in fact, they should be appreciated by PETA for giving them a target. If it weren't for them, who would get them press?????
I know I'm probably going to get a lot of angry emails in response, but I don't really care. I got enough last week for no reason so I'm more than happy to ignore the nastiness after seeing what I saw last night. I'm not about to throw on a fur coat in retaliation, but had I had one within reach, I'm not sure I would have walked away from it.
p.s. when was the last time you saw an animal attack one of its own in defense of a human? hmmmmm….. that's one to grow on!
p.s.s. i think there are plenty of families that could have used that flour for a meal. nice job, lady.

She's stupid. I'm sure countless dogs have defended their owners when they were in danger of getting attacked by other animals, including other dogs. Her point is moot.

As a former PETA member, I can't fault her for her comments. Never went in for the guerilla tactics which is why I haven't belonged for years. Saman sounded intelligent and fair.
I agree with her. I mean I ain't gonna say everyone should go out and wear fur. i don't wear it, and it probably ain't the most humane thing on the planet, but the way PETA goes about getting attention seems a little ridiculous. Because someone wore fur, does that make them subhuman and worthy of humiliation? Because I know I'd be a tad bit humiliated if someone dumped flour on me in public. I think that some people need to grow up because actions such as that are very childish.

What about the poor lady in Palm Springs holding the cross at a no on 8 Rally who was attacked? I guess when you agree with the attackers or want to protect the person it's one thing, otherwise it's fair game. Sam felt those protesters were fine, I am sure. You have to be against all crazy people or not. Most protesters are crazy.
She had me ’til the PS. Animals attack for in defense of humans all the time. What's more, they also work as seeing eye dogs, hearing dogs, and frequently pose as "therapists" for elderly and injured. Many are currently working in Iraq and Afghanistan. AND some work to keep us warm and look pretty. But, to ask when one ever attacked on a human's behalf… that's not one to grow on. Well, not one to make YOUR point. But, good talk.

I agree with her. Everyone has the right to their own opinion but when you impose it on someone else physically, you lower yourself to a level that no one would respect. If individuals such as Lindsay, Mary Kate, Anna Wintour want to wear fur, that is their right, they shouldn't be attacked for it. The individuals PETA and other animal activits should be targets is the makers/distributors. You go to the linch pin if you want to bring something down.

As an animal rights activist, I CANNOT STAND MANY OF PETA'S TACTICS. There is a difference between freedom of speech, and physically harassing someone. I don't care if it's flour or concrete, if you can brush it off, or if it leaves a stain, the fact of the matter is that celebrities in the spotlight have become scapegoat for the people behind the scenes who are making money off a vicious, cruel industry. Period.
It's much easier to target celebrities in the spotlight than to target the real culprits of the industry.

there is a difference between a celebrity wearing fur and someone who lives in a rural hunting and gathering tribe/group. The first does it nearly because she can afford it, the latter because it is a necessity.
So Sam…lindsay was in the wrong. stop defending her and let her fight her own battles.
Celebrities are targetted because the word gets OUT that way. And yes the industry is reponsible, but so are the consumers. If no one bought fur, there would be no industry. People take action to defend animals because the animals cannot express their own opinions about being trapped, caged, killed and skinned. If they could, Lindsday would have had a FAR WORSE experience than a little bit of flour.
