The fires in Southern California have spread beyond Santa Barbara.
Crews have been working around the clock to extinguish the wildfires that flared up in the Sylmar area just north of Los Angeles and the Yorba Linda area north of Disneyland in Orange County over the weekend.
Hundreds of homes have been lost and thousands of people are displaced.
Our thoughts go out to the fire victims and the fire fighters who are working so hard.

I got caught yesterday in the Yorba Linda fire. My friend and I had to abandon his car and run like hell through 60 mph of ash blowing in our faces and flames all around us. Yesterday was a really scary day.

i live pretty close to the Corona fire and the smoke and ashes are reaching my neighborhood, the hospitals around here are filled with people who got ashes in their eyes and people who are having problems breathing because of asthma etc. like me.

i woke up this morning to an orange cloud. i was stuck in traffic yesterday for 7 hours just watching the firefighters scramble through corona and then through brea. I've lived in california my 22 years of life and have never seen anything like this. To see people come together and offer a stranger help is an amazing thing. This is scary stuff…officials are afraid they might find burnt bodies. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people who have lost their lives or their homes.
Whoever the sick mother fucker who wacks off to this mayhem needs to jump in front of a bus…NOW!

Yes, thoughts can go out without prayers. Not everyone believes in God but their thoughts are every bit as sincere as someone's prayers. In fact I saw faithful god believers who go to church every Sunday who's houses went up in flames while atheists homes were spared. Fire is a random act of nature, I doubt very much God gets involved in it. No on 8!

I am sad when tragedy happens to anyone. Disaster knows no socioeconomic boundaries. Compassion shouldn't either.
This is God punishing them for wanting Gay marriage and all the other sins that they are doing. I live in Georgia, never have been to California. When New Orleans got flooded, I really believe it happened because the place was so full of sin of course God don't like sin. I believe this could be the reason for all the fires. Sin Or it could be because the big Earthquake is coming one day and he is trying to get every one out. I believe that is a reason for all the fires.

Blaming the massive fire on a disgruntled McCain supporter, punishment for voting a certain way on Prop 8, arguing against sending prayers to those who are suffering because they don’t believe in a false God…..what is going on here!!! People are suffering and this is how others respond?! It is sickening! My heart and prayers go out to all of those in California who are suffering from this tragedy and to the brave men and women fighting to contain it!

Do you know that Orange County is mostly republican conservative and are mostly against gay marriage and their houses are burning down? How would you explain that? I'm truly sorry for those losing their homes…but the reality is when you turn your back on God he turns his back on you and lifts his protection. California in so many ways has turned it's back on God and unfortunately this type of thing is the result. Notice how not much has happened to Northern Cali….think about it. Protesters in So Cal have been harassing/protesting churches…Do you not think God will protect his people? Those houses with "traditional" families (man, woman & kids who go to church on Sindays) are the ones that are burning down. Hollywood and West Hollywood aren't on fire. Why would God deliberately hit those areas that largely voted Yes on 8 and leave those gay communities untouched?

this is so scary there using my high school as a evacuation center, and the fires are in the city next to mind in diamond bar… walnut is really close I hope it doesnt get this far. this is my life all of my surroundings, places i go to eat, and shop at.. this would be devasting. it would be sad. =(

We've got Aussie friends staying in Yorba Linda and they called us last night to let us know they were OK. We suffer terrible fires here in Oz - our weather is not dissimilar to Southern California.
My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are suffering as a result of this tragedy. To those men and women battling this fire - you are hero's and I pray you all remain safe.
To those who have used this event to say this it is some kind of karma - you should be deeply ashamed of yourselves.
I also pray for the animals and pets during this time - they're often overlooked in the face of stark human tragedy.

Yes, this was all very freightening. I live in Yorba Linda, off Fairmont st. At one point we were under what they call "voluntary" evacuation. My heart would sink every time I would go out to my balcony and see that heavy plume of black smoke. It was awful. I put my dog inside the house because there was ash raining on him, and the sounds of the helicopters (news) and sirens were scaring the crap out of him. The wind took this fire that started and Corona, and took it all the way to Chino Hills. From my understanding, the State Park burned. The saddest part is that people lost what they worked their entire lives for.
I hate to be crass, but I HIGHLY doubt that "God" gives a flying fuck about who or what anyone voted for. In fact, I think bringing God and politics into this is rather distasteful. Fact is that the weather conditions were perfect to start that fire in Corona, and spread it everywhere else. Then there was a separate fire in Brea. Those two nearly merged, which would have been awful. Sometimes it just takes a spark, or some idiot throwing their cigarette out the car window. Or even worse a sick shithead that likes fires. At this point, we don't yet know what caused these fires in O.C…
All I know is that I will be helping out my neighbors here in YL as much as I can. My heart goes out to everyone else who has been affected by this statewide.

It's a characteristically dry area this time of year, but they'll keep on building there, again, and up goes everyone's insurance, again. That's not to say I don't feel for the homeless families. Each family that doesn't have insurance should be adopted by a town in another state, and equipped with what they need to live in a new place; just preferably away from a chronic disaster area.

why use water, when fire extinguishers carry carbon dioxide… why not use that it certainly contains the fire faster… cloud the area with carbon dioxide and watch the fire tamed!

it's the best way to stimulate the economy… get the insurance companies to pay out, and finally there's cash again in circulation in the hands of the consumers. it's sad that the society played like this.
