According to a new report, the New England city of Burlington, Vermont, has the healthiest people in the U.S.!
92 percent of city residents surveyed said they are in good or great health.
And, it's also among the best in exercise and among the lowest in obesity, diabetes and other measures of ill health, according to a recent report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Burlington is a fairly young, educated and well off community, so that could explain why people live a higher quality of life!
The average age of residents is 37-years old, 40% of them have college degrees and only 8% of the population is at the Federal poverty line.
Congrats, Burlington!

i moved to b-town to go to UVM and i was amazed, there really are very little fat people here… its exercise to walk anywhere cause one way is down a hill and one way is up it hahaha, fuck yeahhhh burlington
8% are at the poverty line BECAUSE 40% are well educated- they employ people. It is also 93% white- so not very diverse. The more a population is similar, the less stress they have. But you'd have to love freezing your ass off.
They should have surveyed the doctors and not the patients.
I believe that. All I do when I go there is ski and eat healthy. I come home and it's back to eating Chinese take-out, reading this website, and watching TV.

I vacationed in Vermont last year, and it was amazing… my retirement dream is now Vermont. It's gorgeous there, and there's a bakery on the Church St market that sells the best Snickerdoodle cookies in the world.

Vermont may not be perfect, but it is a pretty great place to live. We may not be as diverse as other cities, put that is changing on a daily basis. There are some issues with drugs, like any where but, there are a lot of great people who are active and healthy. Also, we may all be gay, but I am damn proud of my liberal state. We may not have legalize gay marriage, but we have civil unions, which are a step in the right direction.
Like any state we are not perfect, but we tend to be a wonderful and open minded place to live. I am happy to raise my kids here.
Oh, and I'm originally from California.

Woo, kinda cool… i guess??? I live about an hour from there in New Hampshire. It's really a college town… so that's kinda weird lol maybe they left out the college students??? They have 2 colleges right in town. It's a pretty fun little city though. Cool stores, lots of bars… a lot of hippies lol It's like… the pot capital of New England too… so who would've guessed pot smoking hippies were healthy? =)
Oh and btw, burlington is by no means the drug capital of New England. Take it from a heroin addict. (NO I'm not from Burtlington and YES I have been clean and sober 2 years) Hartford CT is pretty bad with the drugs, as well as Lowell Mass… or any city! jeez. Every city has drugs, even my shiteous town with 20,000 people. It's crazy. In my opinion, I think Burlington is a cool town with a lot of open, nice people. Sorry there aren't any Gucci or Prada stores for the spoiled brats…
hahahahaha number 48 is hilarious. dumbass. Anyway, I lived in Burlington for a few years when i went to school and I loved it. Its hard not to be healthy there given that it's one big hill and most people walk everywhere. Plus a lot of people live there to ski or snowboard which is one of the only ways to get through the winter. There is a drug problem but you find that anywhere. And yes, it's filled with hippies. That smoke a lot of pot and drink a lot of wine. And that's why it's so much fun! Go 802!!

Vermont is a place where you will find the most hardworking, yet, laidback folks in NE. Try living through a Vermont winter…I dare you.
I grew up across the lake from Middlebury and went to Burlington and Killington all the time. Vt is so much nicer and cleaner than NY even though it did smell like cow crap. Vt is a beautiful state and Church Street Marketplace is alot of fun and I love the cobblestone streets. Good Job Burlington:)

Burlington is a pleasant town. You can buy some quality chocolates and take your kids to the science museum. The downtown area is pedestrian friendly. I'm in the southern part of the state, in Bennington county. Though the town isn't very diverse, you'll find pockets of African immigrants and other relocated groups. Vermont can be a welcoming place. I know, I grew up in the Bronx.
