Teen Survives Cougar Attack At Miami Home
A 16-year-old girl was mauled by a cougar — but survived — when a neighbor saved her from the animal's cage at a northwest Miami home.
A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman says the girl sustained some significant wounds Saturday and she was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Miami-Dade police said 21-year-old Anthony Zitnick, a friend of the girl, illegally entered the wildlife collector's home with the girl and was later arrested. Inside, the 150-pound male cougar, named Chaos, pounced on the girl and clenched his jaws around her head.
Authorities said neighbor Richard Miralles heard screams and wrestled the animal away. Wildlife officials said the owner of the home has legal permits to keep two cougars and several snakes, tortoises and alligators.
Zittnick, 21, is facing charges of burglary into occupied dwelling.

Why, oh why is it in any way legal to have such a dangerous animal anywhere near a neighborhood where PEOPLE live? What if it got out? What if there was a disaster like a fire or something like that where the integrity of the house and what it contained is, well lets say challenged? Would you want to wake up, go out the door of your house and be confronted with an animal like that because someone had a fukkin permit? WTF? Do the neighbors not have rights? What about people who did not know-do they not have a right to live in a safe place?

Re: edtor – perez did not put the full story up on his site. i live in miami and this was all over the news. these idiots deserved it! they shouldnt have been trespassing in the first place. The cougar was in a cage(which Anthony opened), it was in a locked patio, surrounded by walls, chain links and wood. This kid Anthony worked with the owner of the cougar. Idiot!
THIS WAS MY FRIENDS LITTLE SISTER. Anthony worked for the guy and had keys to the cages. He took the girl there without permission though to try and impress her. She got surgery yesterday and is fine now. My friend can't even leave his house because of the news crews all over the place.
