  9. 9

Did anything not Gay happen this weekend?

  10. 10

Its so hard to have faith in humanity when you read articles like this…..makes me sick…..turn that fucker loose in boys town in chicago and see how tough he is

  11. 11

  12. 12

    Not cool.

  13. 13

Re: Big Black Dick – Gay is everywhere!

  14. 14

Bet those Mormons did it to her huh??? BLah BLah Blah!! may as well blame the natural disasters on them as well!!!

  15. 15

I'm from upstate new york and this is not what we are all about up here. It's so sad that scumbags would do this to another person regardless of their sexual prefrence. RIP you are in my thoughts prayers. go to www.wtvh.com for more on the story

  16. 16

    get over it
people are killed everyday for selfish reasons and not ALL of them are killed because they're gay
perez everything random has to relate to gay rights doesnt it?

  17. 17

IS SHE GAY OR TRANSGENDER! THERE IS A DIFFERNCE!

  18. Sgirl says – reply to this

    18

This is a really sad story and very sad that someone would in fact kill someone for being gay. However, that being said, this has absolutely nothing to do with equality. This is not what you are fighting for at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with equality or gay marriage.

  19. 19

although what the person did was wrong

  20. 20

Re: Big Black Dick – PROBABLY NOT!!!!

  21. 21

This is tragic and sad, but how is fighting for equality going to stop this type of violence? Your "fight" for Prop 8 has NOTHING to do with this type of senseless crime.

  22. 22

    Re: The Warden

Thank you! I was just about to rant and say something to that effect. You described it much better than I could have.

  23. 23

The world is a cold, hard place.

  24. 24

Well what we need to fight for is ending transphobia and sexism and misogyny! We need to get more strict laws against hate crimes! No one is dying because they can't get married, yet almost ALL of the resources of rights groups goes toward marriage! WHY????!? Again, NO ONE is dying because they can't get married. Maybe mainstream gays and lesbians need to reevaluate their own privileges and priorities.

  25. 25

While I certainly condemn this type of action, why are special laws needed for this situation? Doesn't the law that makes this a murder apply regardless of the "type" of lifestyle this person chose to live? Would your reaction be different if this black man shot two people and killed one because he was upset they were white (most courts won't recognize a hate crime when the victim is white)? Bottom line is that yes this person needs to get the needle, but not because he committed a crime against a transgender person, but because he committed the crime against a fellow human being. GLBTs are already offered this equal protection under the law.

  26. 26

Re: fudgepacker – Gender identity variance or being transgender doesn't have anything to do with sexual preference. It has to do with GENDER. Second, we don't say "sexual preference" we say "sexual orientation." Preference is something like preferring white or red wine with dinner. Sexual orientation goes beyond PREFERENCE. Do you "prefer" being straight over gay so that's why you do it? I don't think so.

  27. 27

I actually am going to school in Syracuse and I just have to say that there are a LOT of transgender people here and although this is sad it should also be noted how there are many, if not more, accepting people here.

  28. 28

R.I.P indeed sometimes people take things too far who are we to take a life God created…They will feel the wrath for their actions.

  29. Sgirl says – reply to this

    29

One more thing. Isn't this a man that was killed? Not a woman correct? Why are you calling him a woman? Wasn't it a transgendered man?

  30. 30

Damn - this is pretty close to where I live. It's disgusting that people behave so immaturely. Why can't humanity suck it up and accept equality or move off the fucking planet?

  31. 31

I am also from upstate New York and am just as appalled. I hope that people will understand that whoever committed this horrendous crime against humanity does not represent all people in NY state. I hope that the family of this person is surrounded by love in their time of need.

  32. 32

It doesn't matter whether he was gay, straight..bi..or just wanted to be female..(S) He was a human and this is a horrible story…

  33. 33

I live just south of Syracuse. I read this in the news this morning and shook my head. It sickens me to think people are just willing to kill someone because of being different. I agree - this is one reason, of many, equality is a must.

  34. LS says – reply to this

    34

HI- I LIVE IN SYRACUSE, NY… I JUST CAME FROMTHE FAMILY HOUSE OF THE VICTIM. WE HAVE AN ORGANIZATION CALLED MOTHER'S AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE. WE REACH OUT TO FAMILIES OF HOMICE VICTIM. THE FAMILY IS TRYING TO STAY STRONG. THIS IS A CRIME THAT IS A HATE CRIME BUT SO FAR THIS YEAR WE HAD 18 PEOPLE KILLED HERE THIS YEAR. Syracuse is but so big…. I cried when I hugged her mom because I have a friend my best friend is gay and people have said things just because to him…. LEAVE PEOPLE ALONW… JUST BECAUSE THEY GAY THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY WANT YOU. MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THIS FAMILY. IT WAS HARD LOOKING AT HER SISTER WHO LOVED HER SO MUCH. WE ARE HOLDING A VISUAL TONITE FOR THERE LOST.

  35. 35

At what point would 'full equality' have changed the tragic outcome of this story? Too much hating caused this. Hate mongers caused this. You want to be part of the solution Perez? You need to stop being part of the problem first.

  36. 36

Things like this make me want to scream. How is it that we still have prejudice and hatred like this? It just doesn't make sense to me. I can't wrap my head aroung it at all. I have heard more people talking about praying for the safety of Obama and his family since he's been elected. I myself have prayed that no attempts are made on his life. The fact that we've actually felt compelled to pray for a man because the color of his skin could get him killed in 2008 is just baffeling to me. It's so sad. I now pray that Obama can change the social dynamics in our country. Once all these trivial issues are dealt with (trivial because they shouldn't be issues at all, not because they're not important) maybe the focus can go back to the war and our failing economy.
Who cares if 2 ADULTS want to share their lives together??? How is it that people can look on love between 2 consenting adults as "disturbing" or "sick".
It's love. It's the same love I have for my husband. There's no difference.

  37. 37

All murder is a hate crime.

And bigots and haters come in all colors, unfortunately.

  38. LS says – reply to this

    38

Re: Sgirl – Does it matter. He was born male and stillmale. But deep inside he is a she and choose to live that way and he/she has that right. WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT A HUMAN BEING WAS MURDERED.

  39. 39

YOU MAKE FUN OF THE TRANS COMMUNITY ON YOUR BLOG!!! You're not fighting for the trans community, you portray them as a strange novelty and in doing so have contributed to public ignorance of the transgendered. When did you convince yourself that you're so high and mighty?

  40. 40

    Re: Big Black Dick
Lets me and you start something gay? Your hot, love the hat.

  41. 41

Re: Sgirl – She was living as a woman.

  42. buck says – reply to this

    42

Blacks really hate gay people but whatever you do don't protest in front of a black church or you might get killed. keep taking it out on Mormon's, you can push them around easier.

  43. buck says – reply to this

    43

Violence in never the answer unless its a group of gay men pushing around an old woman in Palm Springs last week. Hope you are still working on getting us that video Perez.

  44. 44

I lived in Syracuse for 16 years and that part of town is incredibly dangerous.
Everyday there was some kind of drama going on.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

  45. 45

Those of US with full equality would still get their asses shot at IF they went to a party where they were NOT WELCOMED.
    *
    *
You got your hope and change wehn you called us to….GET OUT THE VOTE
    *
    *
You all should have thought about WHO you were calling out
    *
    *
Wait for the next election year.

  46. 46

what does this have to do with the LAW? the LAW is holding the murderer without bail! the LAW has done a fine job. STUPID.

  47. 47

Perez, for being so involved and being gay, you sure are ignorant when it comes to these matters. Educate yourself. This is sad.

  48. 48

being from the Syracuse area, i find this particularly sad although not surprising. syracuse is a mostly republican area and has done many injustices in the past. My heart goes out to this family and Syracuse should be ashamed that this could happen in the community and scream from the mountain tops that these disgusting acts of hate will not be tolerated

  49. 49

Yeah I live here in Syracuse…it's all over the news!

  50. 50

It's sad when ANY human being is killed…PERIOD!

  51. 51

This is so sad :( There's a transgender female in my town and they slit her tires. Sometimes I can only imagine it's a hint of what they would really want to do to her. My sister and brother's boyfriend are both gay, everyday I fear for their lives, why does it have to be like this? This makes me so upset!

  52. 52

what the fuck is wrong with america?! why would you kill someone for a reason that doesn't even effect you? so you're a guy and you don't like dick…. MOVE ON!

  53. 53

what does that have to do with gay marriage? twat face

  54. 54

I met a transgender person - whom I believe to be transgender, that is - at my work yesterday. I even complimented her (that is, a male who is a woman) on her glasses, which I thought were nice. I didn;'t know for sure initially, but her features weren't quite feminine enough, she had a little bit of a mustache, and she was flat chested. But dressed rather feminine (not in a dress or anything, but they didn't look like mens clothes, though they could be considered slightly unisex just the same). There was nothing weird about the encounter, and I wish people would just be accepting of them. They're just like you and me, and there's no reason to judge them just because their DNA got twisted up.

  55. 55

Re: ms. wheelchair mass – Syracuse is not a bad place, I have lived here my whole life. Yes that area is bad but it's not bad like you can't be in the area. It is a shame what happened but don't act like Syracuse is this hate filled city, this type of crime is very random here..

  56. 56

Re: buck – i would love to see hat video because i dont think it happened…..but im not ruling it out….we fags can get very dramatic

  57. 57

Huh?? It wouldn't have kept that guy from getting killed.

  58. 58

Re: JoDanGiRl – are you saying because the shooter is black he can't me a mormon? is that another rule of yours, NO BLACK MORMONS? Might as well change the name to MORONS!

  59. 59
  60. SoCal says – reply to this

    60

Re: The Warden – THIS! How would Prop 8 passing have prevented this? Perez, you are an idiot.

  61. 61

Re: richiejr80 – Very well said. They are protesting so much about Prop 8, they should be looking at what they can do about hate crimes and other discriminatory acts that they CAN prevent, ie, I just found out that certain states you can lose your jobs because you are gay, now, don't you think they should be fighting against this?

  62. 62

Re: YoMomma – No I'm not saying that you simply presumed I was. I was just noting that Perez likes to blame the passage of prop * on the mormons so he may as well start blaming them for all the bad shit in the world. Give him somebody to point the finger at so he can sleep better at night.
Re: Parramore – The video can be fou on youtube. look up cross at prop 8 rally. it really is a sad video with so much hate.

  63. 63

Women are killed and raped for being women as well but that doesn't stop you from objectifying women. Stop with the poor me routine

  64. 64

Does Perez even know the difference between a gay person and a transgender person? Or does he lump them all together under the rainbow flag and make up the laws to fit his agenda? If I were gay I'd actually be offended by all the bullshit Perez posts on this site..it's only a matter of time before GLAD shoots off an email telling Perez to stop trying to "help".

  65. 65

ITS STRYS LIKE DIS DAT MK ME WISH I WAS'NT HERE ON THIS FUKED UP WORLD… AND TO ALL THE SCUM DAT TINKS ITS ACCEPTABLE TO KILL AN INNOCENT HUMAN BEING SHUD B SHOT. STAY OUT OF OTHER PEOPLES LIVES ND GET ON WIT UR OWN SAD LIVING.

  66. 66

If only the gays had been able to marry in California..then that transgender person in Syracuse wouldn't have been murdered! Clearly the Mormon church in Nevada conspired to pass Prop. 8 in California in order to kill off trannies in New York. Bastards.

  67. Bay says – reply to this

    67

Stuff like this is going to happen regardless if Gays can get married or not….Perez how can you compare the 2???? This is a sad horrible story and you are trying to use it to push your cause…So are you saying this would not of happened if gays can marry???? You are a fool

  68. 68

It sucks that the one time we're mentioned in the headlines is over something like this.

  69. 69

Re: buck – why do assholes like yourself always gotta put race into everything.

  70. 70

i cannot believe this happened in my hometown. i am ashamed.

  71. 71

    Re: Big Black Dick
    Yea, in your
    head with
    perez..
    haaha

  72. 72

Re: poptarts – ARE YOU RETARDED BY ANY CHANCE! PUT YOUR HELMET BACK ON!

  73. 73

Perez- I sent you a story about a transgendered woman in Memphis who was not only beaten by the Memphis Police Dept for being transgendered but was also shot execution style after announcing that she was going to seek legal action against them. Is that story not as newsworthy as this?

  74. 74

Soooo….making gay marriage legal would have stopped this HOW?

  75. 75

OMG! HOW ABOUT THE 37 yr old Ecuadorean man that was killed by 7 teenagers in Long Island for being Latino. Hate Crimes in 2008 are disgusting and unacceptable on any level! Give proper coverage to your people Perez!!!!!

  76. 76

That is so sad, hopefully justice will prevail and the shooter will be locked up for the rest of his disturbed life. HOWEVER, THE ACT OF A MURDERER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LEGALIZING GAY MARRIAGE, PIGEZ….

  77. 77

Re: LettyB – LOL! That was a good one!

  78. 78

    Re: La Diva

How is it not a legitimate point?
The gay community justifies the harassment of Mormons and Christians because they played a large role in the passing of Prop. 8..the black and Latino communities played just as large of a role so why aren't their churches and businesses be protested as well? Why hasn't a restaurant owned by a black person been singled out and boycotted? Why aren't there rainbow flag dancers outside of the Catholic churches in South Central? Could it be because the gay protesters are ok with singling out people based solely on their religion but don't want to risk the bad publicity they'd get by singling out people based on race? That's SOME dedication to the cause they have there.

  79. 79

Re: LS – I COMPLETELY respect what you do. And I appreicate all your efforts to make your area a better place, one step at a time and all… but, the way you wrote that. Did you go over it and re-read it at all? Terrible.

  80. 80

People are killed everyday for no reason at all. Why not report about all of those innocent people??

  81. 81

Okay, if it's not okay to hate, it's not okay to hate. It's not okay to hate Elizabeth or Elizabitch, it's not okay to hate Lindsey when the joke is she's hit by a drunk driver, it's not okay to hate because you're a homosexual. Perez, you can't be two-faced about it…when you're doing the same things. I'm not saying this transgendered person deserved to be killed. I'm saying hate is hate, so if you want it to stop, start stopping the hate with your mean-spirited blogs…create something different.

  82. 82

We hate the fact that we share the same town as this fuckwad.. Hate Crime is a bad thing regardless of what you are hating on. BTW FUCK PROP H8!!!!!

  83. 83

my heart dropped when i saw this, especially because syracuse is literally 20 minutes from me! i cant believe something like that could happen so close to home!

  84. 84

Boycott Syracuse and New York state, in fact, the entire east coast, …oh … and all women. you are an exploitive pig Perez

  85. LS says – reply to this

    85

Re: Afed44 – I am sorry that my blog is not to your liking. I am sorry for that. I had just came from the family house and I was crying still when i typed that…

  86. LS says – reply to this

    86

Re: Afed44 – But leave it to you and say it is terrible. Thanks. and I did re read it what is wrong with what I said Professor?????

  87. 87

Great news! They are the most revolting of all the sexual freaks.

  88. 88

I grew up in Upstate New York and I go to school in Syracuse now. That area of the city is extremely dangerous and this kind violence happens everyday, regardless of sexual orientation, gender etc. of the victim or the person committing the crime - this was a senseless act of violence common for the neighborhood and is not about the fight for equality. For the most part, Syracuse is a very accepting city - especially around the University/Westcott neighborhoods. However, this is still very sad and my thoughts go out to the family.

  89. 89

What a tragic waste. Girl probably looked all fierce too.

  90. 90

i live in syracuse and go to SU…. this makes me ashamed to say i live here. this is horrible.

  91. 91

    Wait tech it's a man perez…not a woman….i don't think you need an anatomy lesson…I don't think?
    transgender is so confusing…

  92. 92

What does this have to do with equality?? This is some sicko commiting murder, this doesn't have anything to do with equality. People get murdered every second of the day and for all types of wrong reasons.

  93. 93

Im so sorry to say i am from Syracuse.
    this is awful.

  94. 94

How sad! Prayers to the family! This should not have happened! So wrong!

  95. 95

That poor family my heart goes out to them. I hope that disgusting piece of human garbage gets what the maximum for this hate crime. It's sickening & he's a monster that deserves an unsanctioned judgement.

  96. Kelsy says – reply to this

    96

SICKENING! What in the hell is this world coming too? Live and Let Live.

  97. 97

Perez - this is so tragic. It just reminds me - I just saw the documentary Paris is Burning. You should definitely check it out if you haven't already! It's the history of transgender "fashion houses" (balls) in the late 80s. It's also where Madonna got Vogueing from! XO

  98. Kelsy says – reply to this

    98

WTF, someone should shoot that asshole. How in the hell was this person hurting him? Send his ass to the big house so he can be someone BITCH..let's see how big he is without a gun.

  99. 99

This is sick and disgusting. But, don't get it twisted. If legislation passes to give EVERYONE equal rights, that doesn't mean people will stop committing hate crimes. Women and minorities are victims of hate crimes everyday and they supposedly have "equal rights". So, don't pretend as if the legislation for equal rights will equal a halt to hate crimes. Even if Prop 8 is shot down, people will still go about committing hate crimes. That's why we have to make sure to stay vigilant when it comes to people who commit these types of crimes. We have to make sure they are prosecuted to the fullest extent.

  100. 100

Its Funny how some people Ignorant comments are especially the reporting obviously If the victim has breast she is not a man.

If a transgender male starts hormones at 15 years old as they get older does that make them a man the answer Is NO.

Once there Is an understanding how to Identify someone who Is transgender then action will be taken to protect transgenders, But as long as the ignorant media who play a blind eye on basic Identifying as transgender it will only be sweep under rug as random.
