Careless College Kids Caused Montecito Fire!

Authorities are saying that the fires in Santa Barbara were caused by a bonfire that was not properly extinguished by the college students who made it.
An anonymous tip revealed that 10 students had gathered to hang out at an abandoned property. Authorities will not say which college the kids attend, but Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown did say that the fire "was the result of carelessness, not criminal intent."
No criminal charges have been filed, but the case will be reviewed.
The fire was one of 3 that erupted in Southern California, collectively destroying or damaging 1000 homes and 65 square miles of land.
The causes of the San Fernando Valley and Orange County fires remain unknown, or unreleased.
George W. Bush declared California a disaster zone, relinquishing federal aid to assist firefighters. Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger eased the burden on victims by waiving fees and unemployment benefits waiting periods.
Since the beginning of the fiscal year in July, California has thrown $305 million toward emergency firefighting - $236 million more than lawmakers had set aside for it.

If this is true, what a bunch of idiots! If no place else in the US, I would think that anyone living in CA who plans to use a fire of some sort in the wooded areas of CA would take great caution, especially in CA with how dry the conditions are and how many other fires there have been. Stupid stupid stupid. Will they even do the right thing and turn themselves in to be accountable for such a careless mistake. Do they know how many lives they have messed up, how many homes they have ruined, how many people have been devestated, and all because of stupid careless behavior. Idiots.
And what is even more maddening is that I am sure out of those 10 idiots, at least one of them had to have thought that they should do something more to put out the fire before they left - and consciously chose not to.
Fires have gotten worse and worse here in So Cal within the past 5 to 10 years. Hopefully, the "big" one will hit and we will end up in the ocean.

Yes, the "thought" they had put their bonfire out. Bonfires are for the beaches. 210 homes lost, 24 people injured. A good friend of mine is a cop in SB and had to tell all the victims to get out of their houses. The next day all those houses were gone. We did some crazy shit at UCSB but not like this.

And somehow the amber? from the fire restarted due to the dryness & heat of the mountains? Something like that. Britney Spears is coming back and I am soooo excited. I just got off of work and am sooo sleepy, but had to check on my Britney updates.
I'm so pleased with Mr. Hilton with his recent Britney posts. I think he saw that most love her now (as does he) so he decided to stop being an asshole towards her b/c he does love her and he knows we all do too.
Basically, the fires started when Britney was out of town in Louisiana. I'm sure that if Brit was in the area like usual nothing like this would have ever happened. I'm so hungry right now. I'll probably smoke a cigarette before I go to bed. I"ll try to sleep by 9am. That way I can have at least 8 hrs of sleep today. Man do I hate my fucking job. It sucks it. Britney's new album will really help me get through my struggles…and I'm going through a lot of them right now.

Honestly, I just personally feel there should be jail time - and not just a measly 1 year — for those who "carelessly" start those fires — at what point do the folks who live there NOT get that the wind and geographical lay of the land have caused horrible fires over the years?

A guy in San Diego, CA started a fire because he was lost in the woods. It was the same time of year as now, very dry. The fire spread and burned over 100 homes. He is now spending time in prision. I'm sure these kids will get the same.
Kids will be kids. I hope they get a ticket for doing this.
I hope taxpayers in other states don't have to pay the bill in any way. I hear CA is asking for bailout money too.
CA needs to stop building homes in fire zones. Just like FL needs to stop building in tornado/hurricane zones.
What's even more disturbing is the Santa Barbara Sheriff also arrested a 16 year old boy for Arson involving the "Gap" fire, which burnt 9600 acres back in July. The second whammy will come this winter, all the Oak Trees are dropping large acorns which means a very wet winter. If that happens all these burn areas will turn into mud slides.
Can you imagine how guilty those college guys must feel? I'd give them all great head just to ease some of the pain (but only if they aren't fatties).

Dumb College Kids. what an oxymoron but its true
It was city college kids. NOT Westmont kids. Apparently people go up to the tea gardens to skate board and its super popular with locals. The idiots spend the night, trespassed, and then didn't put the fire out when they left. They are fully responsible for the 200+ homes that were destroyed and should be held accountable for their stupidity.
NO CHARGES FILED?!?! People lost their homes, much taxpapyer money was wasted fighting the blaze. I can't *believe* they wouldn't be charged for the results of their carelessness and stupidity! They SHOULD. I guess they never heard of Smokey the Bear? Geez!

Oh well, as long as these kids didn't have bad intentions, we should let them off. And while we're at it, most drunks don't have any criminal intent when they run over and kill people, so let's let them off too! In fact, let's just not ever arrest anybody again, and everybody can feel good because they're so nice, and they can feel safe because nobody ever has criminal intent. Just ask those guys in jail, they'll tell ya the same.
