Idk what thats is sorry
NO!
WHO IS MITT AND THAT'S A FUCKING STUPID NAME!!!
Agreed.
Now theres an idea I can get behind. No need for any more luxury cars to be made that we can't afford. You what's funny, skinny Perez is even creepier, uglier, and stinkier than fat tub Perez. He looked better fat, now he just looks like the alien from American Dad
Carmaker's no, the city, who cares, it's a shithole.
Thats absurd. Does he have any idea what that would do to us? For every job lost there are 8 affected. It could unemployee 3% of Americans. I agree with I hate doing it but it needs to be done.
2ND? yikes!
He's right in a way. The quality of US made cars kind of sucks these days. They have NO resale value whatsoever. The top cars for years have consistently been made by Toyota and Honda. Before going to DC and crying about the hard times, they need to restructure themselves. Obviously something is amiss. Like he said, bring in people from other industries unrelated to automaking to see what can be done.
WTF!
oh my god dude fix your fucking link! It leads us straight back here. Gays shouldn't get married and perez needs plugs like joe biden
You can talk shit about the one sentence PHilton put out there or you can actually take the time to read the article and realize he isn't saying "fuck detroit", he's saying that if the D goes bankrupt it would be the lesser of the two evils.
And I can talk shit- I live here.
I fully agree - the auto industry has had years in which to change their ways, and what have they done? Changed nothing. I live in Michigan, so I know how bad it is, but a bail out is not going to change anything - just prolong it.
Yawn…don't care.
like the Mormons really know what they're talking about!
Can't save everything.
WATCH ALEX JONES END GAME
Where's the BBD at? I want to talk to him.
Detroit needs to come up with the bosses taking large cuts and that in 3 years they put out cars that get 35 miles to a gallon.
Or let them go to hell. Their cares are junk anyway.
If we have to bail out the car makers it should be under the condition that they get with the times and make fuel efficient cars. We should NOT save companies that are hurting the planet, and making cars we can't afford anymore. Sorry, but the Gov't. shouldn't have to bail out every failing business. I know the car companies are huge in this country and so like I said, if we HAVE to bail them out, it's a good time to force them to change their ways.
i dont thnk we can afford to keep bailing out all these people who abviously dont know how to run their corporations……..
on the other hand….MILLIONS of people will be unemployed if they go under……
catch 22
Many people don't realize the enormous trickle down, domino effect that will happen if the car companies aren't helped out. DEPRESSION!! I don't like the fact that we have to bail them out but it needs to be done with alot of stipulations.
i agree let them file for chapter 11 reorganize and get rid of these greedy ceo and unions. this asswipes had the nerve to fly to capital hill in their own private jet to ask for bail out money. that takes some balls
don't give them any money!
i agree with him! just as the american people are oozing of entitlement and they they "deserve" things just cuz they are alive, so are large corporations these days! we need to stop coddling entitled businesses and industries. if something doesn't work, fix it - don't perpetuate it. and if the business fails, then it fails - and something run better will replace it. this has happened in the past and will happen again. the circle of life!
tell it like it is Mitt:)
Yes! That's what they get for charging top dollar for a shit product. My '03 Deville was the biggest piece of shit ever! They need make cars like they used to…maybe then they'll make some money, and not paying their executives tens of millions of dollars a year wouldn't hurt either.
WAIT A MINUTE……..
dontcha worry
obama will fix it all………
sit back and relax everyone
I live in the Metro Detroit area and as sad and pathetic as I think it is that our economy has gotten to this point, I feel the auto industry holds much of the blame. I have a college education but can't find any full time jobs that pay more than $8 an hour. All of the young adults like me are being forced to move out of state whether they want to or not. I say SCREW THE AUTO COMPANIES and give the money to the MICHIGAN PEOPLE! They are the ones hurting the most.
Mitt knows what he is doing. He has seen companies bottom out and has built them back up. I trust his word on this!
Re: Big Black Dick –
Hi Sexy black hole. How are you doing? Want to meet?
AGREED!
Perez, you probably didn't even read the fucking article! No where does he say to bankrupt Detroit. He talks about how the car industry needs to try to take care of this themselves. The fat big-wigs need to forgo their pay raises, restructure, drop their prices and the cars with all the bells and whistles. People right now can't afford that shit. If they dropped the prices on cars and gave better financing rates then the people of America would be able to buy their cars.
who is this?
he won the rep ticket in michigan during the primaries, i think.
good to know he gives too shits about the state.
Completely agree. Let them go bankrupt. The business will come back stronger with a lesson learned.
If the auto industry would lower the price of cars so that people could afford them then they wouldn't be in this problem.
Let's face it, we pay out the @ss for our cars, and that money goes into the pockets of the big-wigs. If the CEOs would stop lining their pockets, cars would be more cost-efficient for us "little people" and the auto industry wouldn't be knee deep in sh#t!!!
Re: Perez is a Balding Hasbeen – HAHAHAHA!
Re: huckabay – PUT YOUR HELMET ON!
I don't know how I feel about bailing out automakers. Actually, I'm leaning more towards the 'leave-em-alone' side. But that city is a disaster already. And some of the other Michigan cities that rely on GM. I really would hate to see the aftermath on those communities… I know it's going to get nasty.
But he's right if they have to fight & change things to stay in business, they will overcome this trouble & be in better shape. A fast fix of money won't make it better in the long run.
yep…
enough bailing out.. and the motor industry has to do a lot with it.. they refuse to make energy efficient cars.. they killed the electric car and now we have this crisis …
you let them figure it out
Re: ShakeYourkitty –
Gee, you are one sexy man.
I think he's right
I think he is an arrogant bastard for saying that. Go figure, a Republican that is from Michigan would want Detroit to go Bankrupt. Fucking rich asshole!
He's right. The airlines were in the exact same situation and didn't need a handout to pull out of it. The claimed bankruptcy, reorganized themselves, and pulled out of it. Nothing will change if Detroit gets a bailout…they'll continue their horrible business habits.
The problem that I have with the car industry is the UAW. Did anyone not hear what they have said about this situation? Go for any bailout you want, but our workers refuse to budget on salary and benefits. This is part of the reason they are in this predicament to begin with. The plant in my hometown closed and GM sold it out, because they can't afford to pay people $96 an hour (that's their hourly rate, including salary and benefits).
That would be great.
Then companies could start building good vehicles again, for decent prices, and NO planned obsolescence.
I agree with him…let them go bankrupt.
i absolutely agree!! no one bailed out the airlines, they went bankrupt and survived - it's obvious it's the unions that screwed the auto industry anyway - bankruptcy will make all of the contracts with the unions null and void - which will then allow the auto companies to bring back there overpaid workers for a more realistic wage…
hell ya!
.
the auto manufacturers and the banks - large corporations that should know how to handle their money but don't. neither should benefit by a bail-out.
.
if i start a business, it's up to me to make financially responsible decisions, and if i don't, i go belly up. likewise if i choose to invest - i'd better have done my homework, or i risk a loss.
.
no one should receive handouts.
amen!
Mitt is kind of right. GM is restructuring, but doing it all wrong. My b/f works in the tech center and all the people in his group come in late, leave early and spend most of the day at the gym but none of them got fired. They need to cut the dead weight and be smart about what they're doing instead of having a popularity contest like they are. The big 3 going under will kill this city, but rather than spending $$ complaining about that, they should be getting outside consulting agencies to help them restructure in a smart way. A bailout will only delay the inevitable… one of these companies will be going away.
Bankruptcy would force restructuring of these bloated American car makers, and allow them to renegotiate with the unions that are making them unprofitable. Bankruptcy wouldn't necessarily put them out of business. Why should the taxpayers who need their own money be forced to pay for these bloated businesses, when much of the money is going to unreasonable union contracts? Look up job banks: union contracts cause thousands of auto workers to be paid to come in and do nothing. Let the car companies declare bankruptcy, restructure, become leaner and perhaps profitable again.
.
In addition, the government buying up car companies and dictating their policies is dangerous. American liberty depends on capitalism, competition, and a free market, and patriotic Americans need to demand this before it's too late.
Let'em fail. It's the only way to get out from under the UAW. The unions are crippling the industry and if the automakers go bankrupt, they can break the contracts. Bottoms up…….
Because of these greedy CEO's we're in this place right now. They should learn from their mistakes. I agree with Re: adrock – on this one. Today it's like a trend to ask for a bailout.
This is all part of the master plan. Just ask Dick.
I really hate to say it but everything that Mitt says makes sense on this issue.
People need to get their facts straight. The big 3's failures have very little to do with quality of Detroits products and how they compare to Toyotas, Hondas, etc. The big problem is Detroit is dominated by UNIONS! The UNIONS are ruining Detroit. The auto makers are tied to labor laws made decades ago—paying employees to stay home, pensions, factory employee retirement etc. These labor laws are antiquated and not appropriate for todays business climate….THATS WHY TOYOTA & HONDA DON'T HAVE UNION EMPLOYEES!!! They are not shelling out hundreds of millions of dollars a year to satisfy union workers.
Let them go bankrupt and they they can restructure their companies & their union contracts!!! They can adopt a more Toyota like contract with their employees. And its time for more CEOs to have more reasonable salaries!
i worked at one of the big 3 when times were good and then slowly changed. including retirement, the big 3 pay something like $20 more per hour than the overseas companies. time to restructure before there is nothing left. a bailout will only prolong the inevitable.
er, i meant to say, including benefits - NOT retirement. sorry.
Mitt Romney is one of the most intelligent business minds in this country. I think the nation's "political leaders" (and I use that term loosely) should take heed of his advice.
Yes. But Mitt needs to explain more in detail exactly what that would mean. There are several types of Bankrupcy filings …. he is talking about reorganization which the Big 3 need DESPERATELY. They need new management and new labor union contracts, etc. They will not shut their doors …. they will still be in business.
What a fucking idiot. He talks about GM going bankrupt like it wouldn't effect people at all. Going bankrupt would mean GM doesn't have to honor pension agreements and my 85 year old grandparents would lose their income. Way to care about only making money and not about people at all
YES! Enough is enough…they got themselves in this mess they can get themselves out. They need to get rid of their unions and start over. Unions need to GO AWAY for good, they do nothing but harm the country and it's workers.
I think he's right. The economy is in the shitter. We all know this. If we bail out Detroit….who are we going to bail out next? If left alone, the economy will fix itself. People aren't buying cars because noone can AFFORD to buy cars. If the government would stop bailing people out and stop taxing me to death, I could AFFORD to buy a car. Until then, sorry…..I knew I couldn't afford a house, so I didn't go buy one…and yet, now my tax dollars are going to bail out people who thought they could get something for nothing. It's bullshit is what it is.
Unions are just today's term for the mob…get rid of them. The company's will come back with a lesson learned and do away with the unions.
YES! Why should we have to bail out every failing industry in this country? They made their bed, let them lay in it! The ONLY way I would be okay with an auto industry bailout would be to get rid of the union & mass job cuts in their managerial staff.
He is right. Nothing will ever truly change in the country without a little pain and sacrifice.
IDk…I am NO Republican. But I am not against letting some stuff fail. Especially in the area pf car manufacturing because people need to get off their fat butts and MOVE.
And we need an incentive to build other industries.
I don't want people losing jobs…but they are losing them already, in ALL industries!
Let things hit bottom. The sooner the better, so we can move forward. I don't want to keep slowly declining.
LET THE CARMAKERS GO UNDER!! IT'S BECAUSE OF THE UNIONS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. THEY HAVE PRICED THEMSELVES OUT OF COMPETITION. AMERICAN MADE CARS ARE CRAP AND THEY'RE WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET!!!1
He makes sense.
Ford closes 13 assembly lines in the US and makes cars in other countries and loses money. Toyota opens up assembly lines in the US and makes money.
Bailouts only help the fat cats who would lose big during a restructuring and not solve the underlying problems in the companies.
Of course GM sent an Email to it's consumers (my wife got one) saying that it isn't a bailout, but a loan they intend to repay.
time for them to file for bankruptcy! no more bailouts wtf enough is enough already. Let them start from scratch. If the airlines survived, the auto companies will too.
It's editorials like this that make me wish he had been the Republican nominee for President. He's not saying that the companies should go bankrupt, but that in order for them to survive and flourish they need to drastically change their operating procedures. The American automakers need to make themselves competitive with other companies in their industry. Simply handing over billions of dollars to failing companies will not fix the underlying problems, it will merely delay the inevitible. And if you read the article closely, Mr. Romney says "It is not wrong to ask for government help, but the automakers should come up with a win-win proposition."
Ok I think he meant let the city of detroit go bankrupt not the auto industrys. The city of detroit wants their own seperate bailout and that i agree because Kwame, the guy they still want as their mayor, got them into it..get themselves out of it. For all of you that think yeah the auto industrys should go bankrupt then congratulations. I hope you feel good about the fact that your agreeing with 900,000 people being out of jobs and then probably losing their houses and not being able to send their kids to college. Besides if they let the companies like GM and ford go out of business thats the beginning of the end of America. It can start affecting even the military seeing as GM makes alot of the military cars. Also, to say that american cars are poorly made and that its their own fault, people buy cars from places like honda because the cars are cheaper. The cars are cheaper because there has yet to be a president, even though i think Obama will be the one to do it, to tax them as high as the American cars. Don't go by personal experience on what car is better made because if you look at a list that was just released. It shows the top 10 worst made cars, 9 out of 10 of the cars were foreign. Reading all of your comments just makes you all seem as self absorbed as that bitch jennifer Granholm.
He is right!!!
Why should all the fat cats get bailed out, who bails out me? That's right no one, we all have to lie in the bed we make. The auto industry willfully ignored over decades the call for environmentally friendly vehicles, because they thought they can bully consumers into thinking the 'greenhouse effect' is just a fad. Well, it isn't and it wasn't NOW PAY UP for your bad decisions!
i agree with what obama said in his 60 minutes interview. if it were any other time and the economy wasn't in the crapper, then let them go bankrupt to force them to do some restructuring (much like the airline industry). BUT, to let this happen now would really eff our economy up. I have to say i disagree with you mr. romney
Mitt is a douche bag… Michigan was one of the only states he won in the primary… Like to see attempt a repeat in 4 years after saying this
If we pumped all that sludge out of his hair we Detroit would have enough oil to fuel the SUV market for at least another decade
Just thought I would let people know that the things he is saying about changes in pay needed are already being done I'm a new hire at General moters I make 14 dollars an hour less then the person who works next to me and I will max out at only one dollar an hour more then I make now so I will never get close to making what the older employees make also I have to wait almost a year to get any benefits and the benefits I do get are a lot less then what they used to be I dont even get any retirement beneifits besides a psp I put into. I believe we do need the bailout as otherwise the amount of jobs affected is massive there are so many suppliers and part makers and sales people ect ect ect but changes need to be made also which they already are doing and the Union doesnt really have any bargining power with the economy in the state it is anyways.
Mitt says that "Retiree benefits must be reduced." I say, whoa on that one,Mitt. The retirees have EARNED their benefits and their support should be like a sacred trust that isn't tampered with. I'd like to see someone take Mitt's means of support and livelihood away from him and say, "sorry, we can't afford for you to have that now."
THAT IS SO WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS AND IS YET ANOTHER REMINDER OF WHY I'M NOT A SELF-SERVING, SELFISH REPUBLICAN!!!!!
Both management and the UAW ran the big 3 car makers in the ground. They lost their competitiveness in the world market. Giving them more money without conditions will do nothing but prolong the inevitable. I say, let the cards fall where they may. It's not the American taxpayer's problem.
Good.
I don't get why they won't consider bankruptcy? Then everyone can restructure, get rid of the funk-ass management in place now, and start fresh. You know, make cars people actually WANT to buy that have better gas mileage than 9-12 miles to the gallon. Fuck the Big Three and their pity party.
..one a side note the reason that we never made many eco friendly cars was because the only thing we made money on was trucks and suv's when gas prices went up people stopped buying those cars and those plants suffered also now people cannot get credit to buy cars.. and to the comment he made about us making bad cars I have to say at my plant we make the Malibu which has won many awards and gets very very good gas mileage.
Re: LettyB – #3…might I suggest you educate yourself…it might help you understand the world better
if it aint workin… its for a reason right?? let them figure out what they need to do..
i would hate to see that happen. i only buy american cars.
Re: KITNYC – Is this KIT the amazingly talented, singer, dancer, actress, funny lady? If it is, Roger wants to know when we are going for a drinkie?
just a thought to, maybe the big 3 would be able to think of better cars if they werent too worried if it was their last year even making them. They said GM has about a month, 2 if their lucky until they run out of money. Chrysler and Ford has maybe 6 months-to a year. Oh and for the people who keep talking about eco friendly cars, yeah hybrids cost more money no matter what company you get them from. 2. screw eco friendly. worrying about the environment and how the little animals are going to get on with their lives is the least of this countrys worry. Go talk to al gore.
why not? we are throwing money at institutions who are not good at what they do. look at aig-'oh no, we can't let THEM go bankrupt, it will ruin globel economy.' well, we helped in the billions, the globel economy still went to shit and they are still treating their executives to lavish life styles. The ceo of gm will not take a bailout if he has to resign. bullshit. if he was soooo good at running gm, it would not be in this position. american car industries pay out $73 per hour on the average for each employee(includes health care, retirement, etc.) Honda-in THIS country, pays $48 per hour for the same employee.
Re: richiephx – FUCK OFF I LIVE IN CANADA! I DON'T NEED TO KNOW YOU FUCKING MITT IS! DO YOU KNOW THE WHO THE MAYOR OF TORONTO IS FUCK FACE!
Mitt Romney is a Douche Bag.. Who names their child MITT anyway??? It's not only the Auto workers this will be hurting. BUT the companies that provide the materials to make the cars and the AUTO Salesmen/Women. AND LOOK and all the retired workers that are now probably past the ages to go back to work… You're a SORRY A**HOLE MITT!!!!!!! Hope your benefits get taken away when you are unable to work.. WELCOME TO WALMART!! HEY let's bail out AIG AGAIN!!!!!! JUST GIVE THEM ALL THE FREAKIN BUDGET MONEY SO THEY CAN TAKE MORE TRIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, he is a rich bitch republican, would would want them to declare bankruptcy, void the union contracts, fire the higher paid workers, and hire them back at $8.00 per hour. SCUM!
Do the bailout, with strong oversight. Have them become the leaders in hybrid technology. The gov't can help turn them around. Work with the Union leadership on fairer more balanced future contracts.
I don't understand why we are not bailing out American car manufacturers. We bailed out various financial institutions… besides, all of this crap is happening because people decided to use credit irresponsably, and borrow more money than they can afford to pay back. Don't people bother reading the fine print? The fact that we are bailing out these financial companies is rediculous… all of their top dogs, got paid millions and billions of dollars, to put their companies in the crapper! Why doesn't the government go after these guys and make them pay of fine, of the income they had earned? If they got paid all of that money and they screw up, they should be penalized, by paying back their salaries. Besides, I've owned various cars, and you get more for your money when you buy domestic! They are made better!!! People dont know better when it comes to quality, just because American car companies decided to cheap out years ago, does not mean the quality is the same from back then… besides, a majority of classic cars are all AMERICAN and are worth a lot of $$$… you don't see classic "Toyota's" or "honda's" worth a lot of money… get real people, you should be proud to be AMERICANS, AND HELP YOUR COUNTRY GET OUT OF THIS MESS.
I agree with MITT! The more bailouts we do, the more people are going to expect to be bailed out, the more in debt this country will be!
He's an idiot. You can't just let 2.5 million people lose their livelihood. I'm from Detroit, and most of my friends' parents work for one of the Big 3. If they're parents get pink slipped, they'll be unable to continue their education, and we'll have a new generation of unemployable people.
Why not? Over the years they have nearly bankrupt us with their gas guzzlers!
Itis a excellent article! Read and then decide! Tax payers should not bail out these greedy corporate execs who flew into the meeting in there private jets begging for our money! Mitt is right on this one!
Re: LettyB – You are an idiot.
Chapter 11 and a major restructuring is the only way for these corporations to survive. It's pointless to throw money at them when their very business models are clearly unsustainable.
MITT ROMNEY 2012
