perez, I have NO idea why you're all so rah-rah about all of this its a known fact that Obama opposes gay marriage, so what difference does it make what sexual affiliation his transition team is??
Obama voted against a Federal Marriage Amendment and opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, and he openly tells you he believes marriage is between a man and a woman and believes the individual states should be responsible for dictating whether same sex marriage should be legal. So get out the champagne and confetti Perez but I have NO IDEA what youre celebrating.

You know, that actually isn't very many people considering there are more than 300 people appointed to the Obama transition panels. If the statistics hold true, that 20% of the entire USA population is gay, then at least 60 of those more than 300 people should be GLBT. So yeah, not impressed with that small number. Oh hey, where are the people with disabilities on the transition team? Approximately 38% of the USA population has a disability so that should be at least 111 people if Obama really wants to reflect society. He also needs to make sure half his team are womem. Never mind African-Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. Pffft, not impressed by Obama, not one bit.

It is still legal in 30 states to fire someone based on their sexual orientation and in 38 states, it is still legal to do so based on their gender identity.
While polls consistently show that most Americans believe employment discrimination is wrong and support equal rights in the workplace, only 20 states have laws to enforce these beliefs (CA, CO, CT, HI, IA, IL, MD, MA, ME, MN, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA, WI and the District of Columbia).

If you want gay people to have equality and you want there to be tolerance, then you shouldn't "brag" in a post that 7 openly gay people have been named to Obama's transition team. I know it's a proud moment for us all, but pointing out the fact that they're gay just draws an unnecessary line in the sand. Who cares if they're gay? If we want to end (or at least curb) ignorance and stereotyping, and well continue stressing equality, then why don't we just LIVE and regard people as people, and leave out whether they're gay, straight, black, Latin, handicapped, Native American, Arabic, etc, etc, etc….

I hope you realize that the Federal Marriage Amendment that Obama voted against sought to define marriage between one man and one women, and he was not in the senate in 1996 and in no way could had voted for or against the Defese of Marriage Act. He has spoke out several times about a federal amendments defining marriage between only a man and a women. He wants gays to have the same rights as everyone else, and he couldn't be more clear about that.
