"Poor" GM to Cut 2 Corporate Jets From Their Fleet

Filed under: Icky Icky Poo > Busted! > Business Blitz

ceos2__opt1.jpg

As we all painfully know, Detroit's "big 3" auto CEOs caused quite a stink last week when they had the audacity to fly into Washington D.C. via luxury corporate jets to beg the taxpayers for a $25 billion bailout loan.

Well, it looks like the public's WTF? sentiment got to at least two of the three big auto boys.

GM announced on Friday that it's going to cut their corporate jet fleet by two.

A spokesperson said the company started the year with a fleet of seven leased jets.

It gave back two in September and is preparing to shed two more.

GM said it was 'already preparing to give back the two additional jets even before last week's hearing'.

Uh huh.

The mouthpiece went on to say, "We are very sensitive to the issues around the use of corporate planes. This is something we will be looking at closely in the future."

Also, Ford is 'considering' selling its five corporate jets.

A Ford flack said, "Our top priority is to make progress on our transformation plan. We don't want anything to distract us."

Consider???

Why not DO???

There was no word about what the other auto company, Chrysler, plans to do about their corporate jet fleet.

Boooooooooo!

    the economy fucking sucks.

  3. 3

I am so sick of GM, they are starting to piss me off

  4. 4

    rich people are so selfishhhhhhhhhhhhh.
    ughhhhhh.

  5. 5

    FUCK THESE GREEDY ASSHOLES!

  6. 6

    Well, it's a start!
Only thing, the gesture is so minimal. Wasn't Sarah touting selling off jets? Look what good it did her!

  7. 7

I'm from Grand Rapids area where one of the GM Plants is located and they're going to run out of money by the end of this year. I really hope they get this bailout. Michigan needs it. Everything is wired. If people don't have cars, they won't go out to eat, which will cause the restaurants to close. All of the engineers who make the parts for GM cars will lose their jobs. We really need this.

Dudes, File Cahpter 11 and get rid of Union contracts and workers.
Do not use tax money to pay folks who don't have any skills, working at GM plants.
Placing floor mats and get $ 37.00 per hour is way too much.

  9. 9

I'm going to be needing a new car this coming year. I will NOT buy a GM unless these idiots do some major changing of their companies structures and frivolous spendings. I feel bad for the workers, they are the only ones who will truly suffer not the CEO's. I've already written my letters to the GM companies explaining my stand against them.

  10. 10

Re: Hot Monkey Love Obama Style Hates Perez – Hey I gave you some love back in the drug post!
When do I get my Obama love from you?

  11. 11

I can see getting rid of Union contracts but not the workers themselves. If it is true that they earn that much for unskilled labor then that is too much. However, it is the CEO's, top paid executives, golden parachutes, and other frivolous spendings that really bug me. Not the common man just trying to support their families.

  12. 12

You already said it: Disgusting ridiculous Hypocrites! Like ALL overpaid top managers!

  13. 13

I would love to see these Corporate hogs get by on the salary of the guy on the line for a year or two. Their Greed is incredible!

  14. 14

These idiots should quit asking for a handout and fix their companies by getting rid of their posh lifestyles and making some decent cars. American cars suck.

  15. 15

What a bunch of idiots!!! My whole life it seems that when I turn on the news it's poor Detroit. Fuckers need to learn how to run a business, the other auto industries are doing just fine but they can't seem to figure it out — again. And what about that Jack Ass at Ford who was smug saying "I am just fine thank you" when it came to cutting his 9 million dollar salary. Um no ass hole, you have driven your company into the ground and were not prepared for hard times. I think before your employees loose their asses you should justify your effing salary. Seems to me your not worth even 90k!!! I say let them fail. Sucks ass, but they need to run better businesses. In the end the markets will recover without them in time, especially that jack ass at Ford!

  16. 16

i say LET THEM GO UNDER!
    Hahaha

  17. 17

    Who buys private jets nowadays????

  18. 18

This is completely disgrace. I've got a Honda. My Honda is hella old and I'm going to buy a car next year. It won't be from these greedy maggits! These three corporate rapists should be jailed. How dare they ask American hard working tax payers to bail their a.s.s.e.s. out! I've already called and wrote my congressman and told them on NOOOOOO certain terms should we give these corporate vampires anymore bailouts or money. This is corporate welfare. The automotive three stooges are failures and SHOULD NOT GET ANYMORE money from us. Let these stupid fools file for bankruptcy!

  19. 19

These assholes should be lynched - turn them loose naked in the middle of Flint and see how long they survive

  20. LBoog says – reply to this

    20

Well I understand what you're saying about the corporate jets I think the rest of you need to do a little bit of research before you just look at the auto industry and criticize.

First off: It's called a credit crisis people.

And the reason American carmakers are losing money is because they have to make their cars pricier than the imports to pay for autoworkers retirement funds. You want them to cut that?

Meanwhile GM is 2 years away from a revolutionary car that will get 640 miles via electrical charge and 1.5 liters of gasoline. But I"m guessing none of you bothered to notice this.

Go - fine buy your Honda's and don't support your own economy which is going to shit anyway. But I'd like you all to pick up a paper - a non-bias paper and actually get your facts.

2% of the US workforce is in the auto industry - you want to kill that?

I'd like to see any one of you come in to Detroit and actually look at it from another perspective because you all seem rather ignorant.

  21. 21

And WHO is supposed to buy their cars after a possible bailout??? WORLDWIDE the car industry is suffering extremely, but in addition to that the technology of american cars is like 30 years behind. Only Americans bought and still buy that crap. In the long run the american car industry will fail anyways. Americans should focus on things they are good in, like marketing, entertainment, services etc.

  22. 22

Yeah cause it's corporate procedure for the big wigs to fly in a corporate jet - unbelievable! These greedy bastards can fly coach for all care, what makes them so special that they have to jet around in a private plane? Give me a fucking break and change your policies before there's no company left. Greed will be the downfall of corporate America and Wall Street… how much do you need?

  23. 23

Re: opa – Holla! You got it Opa… Unions are bleeding the auto industry dry, so the unions and the greedy upper management has to go. Only then can we get back to basics and build something America be proud of.

  24. 24

Re: Novel1 – LOL yeah Novel haha born and raised right here.

  25. 25

You want to see hypocritical? You should see these guys' golden parachutes.

  26. 26

GM/American auto workers are making excellent products. However; the union thugs have made the American auto worker too expensive (around $74 hr). Toyota and Honda working in America (right to work states) have an average of $34 hr. This puts GM etc.. at an obvious disadvantage. Let them declare bankruptcy and start over. They would be better for it. Don't believe the harm th eunions have done, look at your own state employee contracts sometime. I would kill to have those benefits.

  27. 27

These guys helped to decrease the chances of these companies getting the bailout that they truly need.
A former chrysler Ceo turned the company into shit by making bad decisions leading them to bankruptcy but he got out scotch free with millions of dollars, while the workers are still suffering from his mistakes.
Many of you who are not familiar with Michigan would not know how much the majority of the state depends on these jobs. Everybody has at least one family member in the auto industry, whether it is in the company or a supplier. Many restaurants and stores depend on the nearby offices and factories.
If the bailout does not go through, Michigan will suffer greatly and all the residents would be screwed.

  28. 28

Re: betduke – That is a huge overgeneralization. I personally have never had a problem with American cars and have been driving them my whole life. The Corvette, Jeep Wrangler, Viper, Mustang, and T-Bird are all horrible cars (just to name a few). Yeah right.

  29. 29

"The mouthpiece went on to say, 'We are very sensitive to the issues around the use of corporate planes. This is something we will be looking at closely in the future.'"

The issue isn't exclusive to the use of corporate planes, dummy. The issue is: what kind of decisions are you CEOs making when running these companies? If you have the audacity to fly to Washington in a private jet asking for a handout, what other stupid decisions are being made?

  30. 30

It is bad that these companies have private jets at this time but this country needs GM! It is unamerican to buy an asian car when your country's automakers are going down (partly unfairly since the unions strangle them and they have to pay their workers much more then toyota). It will be horrible to let these car companies go..I have a GM car and I LOVE it. Such a shame.

  31. 31

The auto industry made it's mistake years ago, when it moved most of its production overseas. They started to produce more overseas, yet still focused on Americans as their primary customers - since Americans will pay more. This has been going on nationwide, company-wide, throughout the last 30 years. All of these companies want to use foreign labor, yet still want to sell to the consumer who will pay the most - Americans. Well, guess what? The bill has become due. There are no longer enough jobs to go around to justify the prices that Americans are accustomed to paying. If you produce in America, your primary target for consumption should be Americans. If you produce overseas, your primary target for consumption should be overseas. These companies wanted to have their cake and eat it too - by producing goods cheaply in foreign countries, and selling to overpriced America. When every company tries to go the same route, this "business plan" suddenly stops working.

  32. 32

It's not just the jets. They also need to cut down on their $20 million dollar bonuses, and their wives getting manicures on the company's dime, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

  33. 33

Alright, Perez, I'm going to tell you WHY GM needs corporate jets.

    1) International flights. These flights are not the type of flights where Japanese air stewardesses give you fresh-baked cookies and you toast with champagne. No. These are flights where people will work and meet throughout the entire duration. (I know this because my dad has gone on these flights before.) You can't do work when you're flying commercial; what they're doing on these flights is confidential. So why waste a 24-hour flight to Japan?

Also, there are legitimate security concerns! Wagoner can't fly into Tuluca, Mexico on any Northwest flight. Tuluca is such a dangerous city that executives need to ride around in bulletproof SUV's so that they don't get kidnapped and held for ransom.

    2) Multi-city meetings. GM executives could easily meet at the plane at six in the morning and have flown through half of the country by the time they finally come home to Detroit at eight. They might have a meeting in St. Louis in the morning, meet in Chicago for lunch and do a late-afternoon event in Philadelphia. That's IMPOSSIBLE to do commercial. Absofuckinglutely impossible.

While I agree that it was foolish to take the planes to DC, it is NOT foolish for an international company to have a small fleet of private jets. It is, in fact, necessary. If you don't think that this is necessary, then you're just admitting that you're pitifully ignorant to what it takes to run an international business.

  34. 34

PS: I hope you know that the "mouthpiece" you are referring to is my father. The man who raised me. (I'm dead serious.) And that I don't appreciate you referring to him as a lying, soulless entity. I can assure you, he's not.

    Thanks.

  35. 35

I'm not American but certainly think Americans should buy american cars, by all means. Those greedy CEO's have to go or accept less than a million $ a year in salary, that is all they are worth. Who is worth more than that anyway ? The workers should get paid well, they deserve it more than the management who seems very incompetent. Buy American cars is you are a true patriot.

  36. 36

Oh please! The auto makers need to make cars like they used to. Now all they make is junk. We didn't have such problems in the old days….

Let the oil companies bail them out. They make obscene profits, and fewer cars on the road means less need for oil.

The big wigs at the car companies should travel in their own company's cars, never mind flying. THAT would make a statement but it aint gonna happen.

  37. 37

They don't deserve to be helped out unless they can start shaving $$ from the top….millions in their pay and frivilous perks.

  38. 38

let them fail show those greedy workers and management what its like to live in the real world;; they had it great for too long and still wanted more ;;back to earth boys;; how do you like me now!!

  39. 39

For you people to blithely suggest doing away with unions while you do not address the issue of the income disparity between CEOs and worker bees, is irresponsible.
Start making cuts from the TOP down. Most people agree mismanagement and outright THEFT has bought blue chip companies to their knees.
Trim the fat from above and then move your way down to the worker bees.
Management should take a paycut before whining a person who earns 1/600th of his salary is earning too much for the benefit of the company.
The reality is if the US auto makers do not figure this out, no amount of money will help them.

  40. 40

Ohh they are thinking about it? What a bunch of douches!!! Their companies aren't failing because of the economy it's because they been making crappy gas guzzling vehicles instead of putting money and research into fuel efficiency. They have been part of the problem and have no solutions!!! Hope they don't bail out these corporate piggies!!!!

  41. 41

    Re: Devore – Truth!

  42. 42

I don't understand this. They are the heads of major auto companies. Can't they hire and driver and drive a basically FREE car instead of flying everywhere? I know they're pressed for time but using multiple jets and millions of dollars is dumb. And I think right now they have more time than money. Or why don't they help out the economy and fly a commercial jet like most of the people in America? Dumbasses…

  43. 43

This must all seem like some sick twisted joke to the American people. Corporate US has the taxpayers by the short and curly's. If they don't get bailed out and all these companies go into liquidation your economy will be even more stuffed. But the audacity of these pricks to keep ANY private jets is a massive joke. Someone needs to be ensuring that if these bastards are even given 1 cent of American tax payer money they must sell all saleable assets, cut all salary's and bail themselves out as much as possible.
    It's like bizzaroworld.
Our PM here in OZ is giving the Australian public a $10 Billion dollar Xmas present. Every pensioner, every single parent, every carer and anyone receiving any form of Govt assistance gets roughly $1,000 AUD on December 8th. He's given the money to the people who need it the most and guaranteed it will ALL go straight back into the economy via retail sales. Smartest, ballsiest move I've ever seen from a politician. The people who need it will have a great Xmas and our economy gets stimulated to the tune of $10 billion - someone needs Kevin Rudd to have a chat with Obama.

  44. 44

They need to do a lot more cutting if you ask me…..

  45. 45

Awww…well pin some roses on their fuckin noses! People like this make me literally cringe…

  46. 46

I will NEVER buy one of their cars.

  48. 48

You should be blaming the unions. Oh, and by the way, they will get bailed out cause the unions paid for Obama to become president. So, blame Bush, but your wrong.

  49. 49

I agree with Bill Gates who once said, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1000 MPG”.

    .
    .
    I like your new name!

  53. 53

This is how I see it. Why don't the oil companies bail out the auto companies? After all, they must have some kind of interest in Ford, Chrysler and GM as these automakers can't seem to make a car get more than 32 mpg. We are forced to use more oil. if the auto companies would make cars that got 50 and 60 mpg, then we would be using less oil and the oil company profits suffer. They go hand in hand. So, I suggest that the oil companies use their trillion dollar profits to bail out their good friends.

Re: Enr0n St0ckh0lder – You are so right on the money. Yesterday while surfing and looking for something else entirely, I stumbled onto a Chinese news site link (chinaview) that was in English, and a business article that claimed that "The General Motors Corporation (GM) has decided to invest 1 billion U.S. dollars in Brazil to expand business there, local media reported Tuesday. The investment was part of a U.S. bailout package and would be used to upgrade car production lines before 2012, said Djame Adila, a GM's official in charge of the markets in Brazil and other member-countries of the South American Common Market which also groups Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela." Is this from September bailout money? This article was from Nov. 18, yet Nov. 19 CNN was reporting that the bailout was 'stalled' in congress. GM are worldwide, but I didn't understand how U.S. bailout tax dollars could be used to fund outsourced/foreign aspects of GM, whose corporate setup is world wide. I guess foreign workers are cheaper? I would hope that any bailout dollars should be subject to strict oversight so that the funds remain in the U.S. to help the U.S. sector, but if it still loses money anyway, foreign aspects of GM profit could help fund North American aspects, but would they? It's complicated.

You know, it bugz the shitz to think you are a know it all. Fact-GM had already planned on this divesture of jets long before anyone said a word.Fact-GM CEO etc are not allowed to fly commercial because of security reasons-and must not fly together, again for security reasons. Part of the contract they sign AND easy to read online at the GM stockholders/community sites. Fact-As someone privy to inside info, I could make your head spin right now. I am loyal-therefore, I will let you wait along with all the other riff raff press who put shitz out there with nothing to back it up. NO wonder papers/press/news shows have no integrity. They are all so very wrong.

  60. 60

Re: @v@ – more BS-old news-not part of a bailout-and these cars are not for anyone in US. They don't meet EPA or any safety standards that protect your lazy ass.

  61. 61

Re: ready2gofly – gonna buy a car? got financing? or are you paying cash in full? The real problem here is that there is not money to loan for people to buy the cars. Lots of people want new cars-but try and get a bank or loan company to give you the cash for one. That my dears is the biggest problem right now. The bank bail out money was supposed to go to banks to LEND to you for cars, houses, boats, new roofs, even a pool if you felt ya needed one. The banks bought more banks and hoarded the cash. The money never got to the people. When it does, then this pall will start to lift, but it may be too late for some.Re: LBoog

  65. 65

You buy corporate jets out of profits ~ if you don't have the profits, you don't buy the jets. I know it's difficult for Americans to grasp that concept.
    —————————————————-

  66. 66

I think it's good for GM (etc) to make some cuts to show that they're serious about needing some help, but what I have a MAJOR problem with is this: Why the FRICK did the government NOT make the banks/financial institutions make a plan before they gave them their billions of dollars? I think in this case, the Gov't are the hypocrites. I think that the auto-industry is pretty important, and I don't see why all the banks are getting heaps of cash when they have yet to prove how they're going to get out of the hole they've dug themselves. If the auto industry has to make a plan by Dec. 2nd to explain how they're gonna stop bleeding money, then the banks should have had to of done the same. I HATE how government has a total power trip now that the economy is down. I get why they're behaving like they are, but it's very irritating for all of us real poor people have to foot the bill (via taxes) for these huge corporations' poor planning and greed. Can I get an Amen?!

  67. 67

Re: ruffryderemi – Sorry girl, I know you care about your dad, but if you can't run a business and it sucks than you have to deal with the consequences. At least the GM CEO was willing to take a 1/2 cut in pay, that was better than that jack ass at Ford. But none the less, if a company fails to be efficient then the government should not bail them out. They have had many years to learn this lesson, but never have, they just think there will always be a hand out. Not to mention the CEOs are pretty darn cocky! Sucks, but chapter 11 is the way they need to go to be a better company, if that does not work than fold. The shareholders need to hold the CEO accountable and hire someone who can run a profitable business that can weather bad times like Toyota.

  68. 68

what a bad time to sell those jets with this economy…i guess dubai could afford them hahahah…SUCKERS!

  69. 69

It must be the republicans again blaming the unions, they are so frustrated that Barack Obama is the new President. Don't you know if if wasn't for the unions we would still be working 18-hour days at 1$ a day ? We should be thankful for the Unions and for England for allowing them in the first place in history. As for the CEO's I call them CORPORATE WELFARE BUMS, they certainly don't need unions and they have the admiration of the republicans, those always on the side of the rich and powerful. I am with the underdogs, and I would vote Democrat if I was an American and I would buy an American car. I hate all Republicans.

  70. 70

this is so fucked up! it pisses me off how these fat cat business men can get away with this shit! I feel so sorry for the people in the auto industry who are actually doing all the work and are going to be without now because of these fucking pricks!
